More houses?

(Sorry if this has already been answered. If it has I couldn't find it)
So I finally got enough gil for a small plot. I don't need/want anything bigger, it's just too much space. However, all the small plots are taken. Is there any chance they'll be adding more? Or am I SoL?

Even your subdivisions are full? That seems odd as Exodus is the largest NA server and we have plenty of space available, maybe not in the ward/district you want but there are still quite a few.

Every single house in every subdivision is gone on Balmung. They've been for quite some time.

Yes, as far as smalls are concerned. Even the mediums are starting to go.

I thought they said we'd have enough with the subdivisions and they didn't see a need to add more housing after this, since they doubled the number of plots. Clearly, that's not the case, but I thought that's what they said.

There are still some smalls on my server last I checked, but I think they were only available in Ul'dah, which is arguably the least desirable housing district (has the most empty space on my server by far - probably because it's relatively annoying to navigate).

On my server every single plot in every ward is taken.

They've stated that the feel that the number of housing is sufficient at the moment, which is total bollocks. However, we're stuck waiting anyways because the housing team is working on the Golden Saucer. And I believe they said that instead of focusing on adding more wards, they are going to improve housing instead. So...congrats to the people that own housing and get to enjoy said updates.

I've googled but couldn't find it, is there a website that displays available plots by server and location?

Not that I know of, but to check your own server, go to the Aetheryte in one of the main cities and check the Residential Aethernet. You can browse through the wards and subdivisions for that city to see who owns which house (and if they are an individual or FC, and if the house is open or closed to the public) and which ones are up for sale (and for how much).


By the by - what happens when someone transfers to a new server? Does their house go back on the market, or does it remain locked out? Or can you not transfer without destroying and relinquishing your house?

Please no new wards at lest for now let the devs work on more fun open world content before going in to this stuff again.

Cerberus has about 7-8 medium houses and 2-3 large left in the lavender beds. With all the most popular plots gone.

Yea their housing needs are for sure not being meet on Balmung. They need to separate our server from the rest of the servers at treat it as a stand alone server. Sure the housing needs on the lower populated servers might be meet, but Balmung's housing demand is still through the roof. Stop treating our server like the low population servers and add more damn wards! Balmung needs at least 10 more wards added to each district.

There does need to be more housing. New FCs don't have a chance to take part in this part of the game and on my server (Balmung) there are no estates left. Just looking from an FC standpoint there just aren't enough and that's not even talking about a individual housing position.

Yea, been awhile since all the houses on Balmung been gone, even the large ones.

I'm a lucky owner of a small house in a subdivision, but I have friends that tried to save up for a large house just for them to be sold out.

first I would like to warn you that english is not my primary language so I will try to do my best here, please excuse me if I make any mistakes.

In my opinion, personal house was one of the worst thing SE could implement into housing. Let me explain myself:

Before personal housing was implemented, FCs were already fighting for plots (and I think we still need new plots, but personal houses just made this worse), now here is what I see: I was walking in a district to see how people decorated their house and just in front of a FC Manor I saw 3 retainers with 3 differents owners and I said to myself: wait didnt I already see another retainer in another house with the same owner? I just came back visiting small plots around and indeed: 3 small personnal houses around this FC Manor were owned by the SAME 3 OWNERS!! So those 3 players have their own house AND their FC Manor...?

Those 3 small house plots could have made happy 3 differents FC so around 60 players (counting 20 players in each FC) but no, they are making happy only 3 players....
I understand that everyone want to be able to have something personal, but not in this case I am sorry... do we really need on HOUSE per player...? how many players are there on only 1 server...? It will never be possible...

The thing I suggest if everyone want something personal (and I can understand that) which we can decorate, invite friends in, and whatever... is to be able to buy a PERSONNAL ROOM (not a plot, not a FC room...) in a INN (why not put a INN in the housing area?) those rooms will behave like FC rooms so they won't use any server memory like SE keeps telling us about new plots.

Here is my idea, I understand that I will have all players who bought or want to buy personal house against me, but I think that SE shouldn't have implement this in the first place.

We are in an MMO so for me "personal" should go after "FC" things. :)

(I am not complaining about myself here as my FC already has an FC house and we are all really happy with it. I am just seeing plots being taken by 1 player when a lot of FC (20+ players each...) want to buy one... and it makes me sad. Yes, you will say to me that "it is like this, it is a plots race" but this shouldn't be a race in the first place...)

EDIT: And I agree 100% : abandonned houses shoud be removed (but don't punish players: put all their items somewhere so they can have them back)

If they don't want to expand housing wards again, then they need to implement the reclaimation of plots held by accounts without an active sub. Keeping housing plots rare and not giving the option of inactive accounts to lose their claim to ones they aren't even using is unfair to active players.

I love the Inn idea, but if individual player makes more money than whole FC then why should house go to slow/lazy FC and not the hardworking individual? We still have free M plots (17kk) on our server and 17kk is practically nothing. Step it up, seriously.

And again, Inn idea is brilliant. It would've satisfied individuals who are fine with one room, plus small/young FCs and would've brought more people into wards. Wards would feel more interesting and diverse as well.

So, it's more fair if a player spends couple months doing something other than FF (school, overseas vacation, military assignment, etc) and they come back to find their 37 million gil mansion (minimum price on my server - 34m fully depreciated plus 3m for the permit; it would cost 71m+ to get it back at full price) gone along with all the items that can't be picked up and are lost when the house is lost (ex primal decorations, ADS Illuminants, Armoires etc)? How is THAT fair?

SE made a number of decisions I strongly disagree with regarding housing, but the way to fix it isn't to randomly delete people's hard-earned housing just because they aren't using it 24/7. That just compounds the problem. If SE wants to fix housing, they just need to either give us truly instanced housing like we've been asking for (the neighborhood thing is really not much of a plus) or give us personal housing that's truly separate from FC housing. Heck, just leave what we have the way we have it and create one-house instances similar to the rooms and have them accessible from a common entrance in any ward. You go to the zone, or the NPC guarding the pass, and you get a menu like for personal housing where you can choose a house to visit. It takes you to a small valley area with just the house. Boom, housing issues fixed, no limit to housing. Leave the housing currently in place for people who want to show off and give everyone else a private house off on their own.

As far as I can tell, the FFXIV developers have a tendency to go "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we do things such-and-such a way? Some people will really get a kick out of it!" and they do not think about the scalability, long-term effects, or all the people who don't care about the "coolness" factor. Someone thought it'd be really neat if houses were in a public area where you could wander by and see other people's houses and you could display trophies on your front lawn and you'd have neighbors and such. But, they didn't think about how such a design, while cool, has serious scalability issues and does not jive with their server storage model (at least, I assume it doesn't, else they'd be have a dynamic number of wards that would grow with demand).

Cool presentation does have its advantages, but designing a feature in an MMO with a strict limit on the number of people who can participate in it EVER, and then tying more and more new features to that feature with strict limits, that's just really poorly thought out design. It's not cool when you gate content behind seniority. A new player on Balmung cannot have a personal house, ever. They cannot play around with Gardening on their own. They cannot grow their own chocobo food. What happens when Gold Saucer comes out? How much content will they be gated from participating in? I'm assuming chocobo food and stables will be involved in chocobo breeding for the races.

I do not know about medium or large but all small houses i do believe are full on Leviathan.
I was saving up for a personal house, but then came along the next gil sink steps of Relic.... :(
New plots would be great and i truely hope something also gets added later on after 3.0 arrives

Please don't be that way, those improvements to housing are needed!! I am very vocal about what housing in here is lacking compared to Rift and make it a goal to try and get as much of that design in here one day hopefully.
Housing could have been so engaging and creative but currently it is not.

I own a FC home and a personal home and I am always in these threads trying to convince se to add more homes so ALL its player base can own what they want.
I will continue to support any thread that asks for more housing as I feel in a modern mmo, thinking so small is the worst thing a game can do.

I hope they do add as many as needed, I'm certain they have developers specific for each type of "content" housing changes do not affect dungeon design/raid teams...so those saying not to focus on housing is taking away from other content are wrong.

SE please do add many more homes...options to sell to other players would be nice too. I would have sold my personal home long ago if there was a realistic way for others to buy it without having to pay 2x as it is now for them.
Even if we could only resell back to SE if ppl are worried about players controlling too many homes etc...resell to SE for what we paid etc...

I want to buy a home for my (small) FC, but there is NO way we could afford to pay twice for it. And that's IF we find someone who's even willing to sell to us. There HAS to be some way to resell a house that'd be fair to both parties. Right now, it's unfair to both, as sellers don't get back all of their money, and buyers have to pay twice, which makes no sense to me.

It'd be nice to at least have an official word as to if they're at least working on it, or if they have any plans for the (hopefully near) future...

I think it's FAAAAAAAR more important that the devs provide a LOT more housing than make it nicer for the chosen few who have a house. The fact they said there was enough housing shows just how far out of touch with reality the devs are. Of course, I've also head that the devs only pay attention to the Japanese forums, so we're probably all spinning our wheels here.

Ok Square, a challenge in 2 parts:

1. Reply to this thread with feedback.
2. Create a lot more housing.

Pass the challenge and I will happily post on every forum how I am wrong and you guys rock.

2. Housing was classified as met, because there are plots enough for the average amount of gil, as of last august. there ahs been a lot more gil, yes, but it still applies.

3. although housing is full on adamantoise and balmung, you are still free to transfer elsewhere. encouraged even. Housing is the "Carrot" to help SE balance server load.

4. no new wards until after 3.0. Already been announced. As they said, the Cash shop money is being used to fund the new EU datacenter, and the Heavensward money may be enough to upgrade the servers to support more subdivisions.

5. Exodus is far from the largest NA server. Balmung alone has it beaten by almost twice the amount of players.

6. Alternatively, if people aren't willing to wait, I think SE should use the "Stick" instead of the carrot. Close all new characters on Balmung, leviathan, Gilgamesh, and any other overfilled server until the population lowers. Zero new characters, at any time. Additionally, disincentives should be given to players who refuse to cooperate.

TL;DR there is plenty of housing, but players are not willing to put in the effort/money to get it, and would prefer it handed to them on a silver platter.

There ISN'T enough housing in certain servers. It is disingenuous(at best) to say that housing needs are met. If you want people to transfer in order to get houses, you need to make transferring super easy and super easy all the time. Since it isn't and there's restrictions on legacy servers, you are not going to solve server loads via transferring for housing. It is incredibly stupid design to attempt that. A growing game can't put halts on an important part of their game and expect people to not complain. As sever populations rise, this will come to pass on many other worlds.

Y'all crabs gotta stop trying to pull people into the pot. Land needs are straight up not met on certain servers, and those on those servers have every right to complain as loud as they want.

Fair enough, I'll give you the team getting tied up, but I can't begin to comprehend the server load problem. WoW added garrisons which are unique to each character on your account, so if you have 8 characters, you have 8 customized garrisons. Star Wars TOR added housing and allows each character on your account multiple customizable houses. And Star Wars went free to play a bit ago, so I simply cannot believe in any way, shape or form that with a very popular subscription based game that Square can't afford to upgrade their hardware.

As for the team, square should be measuring making a couple hundred homeowners per server happy vs. thousands of ticked off FC's and individuals who won't get a damn thing from those housing upgrades because they can't actually buy a house anyway. Sorry if it does push back some fixes or upgrades, the great majority of us who can't have a house really don't feel that bad if the few with them have to wait a couple months extra for some of the changes.

There isn't a me and you. The housing system is broken if some servers can't get houses ever and the development team's answer is "transfer dawg!" This isn't an answer unless transferring is as easy as switching classes, because people accumulate wealth and connections on the server of their choice. Even if they want to transfer, there are a ton of restrictions and a lot of things you lose. I can accept that housing is simply in a state I have to just deal with(especially cause that means all the money I saved means I'm pretty rich as far as everything else is concerned!), but the system is currently busted for some servers and it's going to continue to break for more and more servers. A set number of housing districts is an untenable solution to a growing game.

So long as new wards are added after 3.0 I'm patient and will wait. But there needs to be a definite "Yes we will add wards in the future." or "No, we have no intention of ever adding any more wards." That way I know if I need to end my sub and find another game, or keep playing and wait for the housing to be released.

Sure you added Subdivisions, twice the plots (still beats me why you didn't just add more wards, instead of awkward subdivisions in the Aetherytes, but whatever...), but just as you added twice the plots, you opened these plots to personal housing, effectively killing most of the plots for new FCs, now entire FCs are stuck with horrid small plots only, while singular rich players have entire mansions for themselves. I don't even. We need at least 10 more Wards for it to last a while, at the very least.

I'm not trying to be mean and I hope you can understand this without getting offended.. But if you're referring to buying a pre-relic weapon and attaching 2 tier III materia on it as a gil sink... you really need to find a better way to farm gil.. Or just settle for the "apartments" in your FC housing in the form of private chambers.

You could buy an FC with housing attached (many of those for sale on my server lately) and hope that you can change the FC name somewhere along the future updates.
Not an ideal solution but it may be your only way to get the housing if you can't afford to pay double the price for it.. Because paying off somebody to relinquish and buying the plot would set you back a lot more

Thought I'd share this post from a thread in GD, since it might interest some people here.

I'm not sure where to post this but i'd like to know how a FC gets to own 6 houses. on famfrit i have worked very hard on getting the money for a house there was a lot of empty plots 2 weeks ago especially in Goblet now all are gone over night. Famfrit Goblet ward 1 a FC bought 6 plots 5 of the houses are listed in company as subs of the main fc with each sub being closed with just 2 members the main fc has 120 members so its certainly not issue of lack of rooms in main house since others are closed fc. so my question is this allowed? being so little housing i wouldn't think so

Did they expect this to happen? Probably not. Is it allowed? As of how the system currently works, it can, yes. I'm personally not surprised some FCs "hoard" housing that way (They send members into "alt" FCs to rank them up to 6 and get a house). It gives them more garden spaces for themselves (I suppose), and whatnot. Honestly, I don't think that's worth it for how much of a group of asshat it makes you look, but people do it because they can. :/
