[dev1130] Disciple of the Land Stealth Ability
This is epic win. Fixes tons of problems and makes gathering a lot less frustrating.
A -HUGE- step in the right direction for this game.
Thank you SE + Devs. I'm sure all gatherers will be overjoyed :]

But what if the mobs are r51+? I remember many of mobs placed around gathering points are higher than r50, especially Mosshorn...
It's a good idea I suppose, though I hope they don't just walk through packs of enemies like the picture implies. Some visual stealth element would be nice.
Oh VERY nice.
Clearly it won't avoid Notorious Monsters, but I guess they're notorious for a reason.
Also a pity that we can't use it in raids and such as a tactical option, but them are the breaks.
"Movement speed will be reduced to walking speed."
Wow. I won't be using that much. Though I can understand stealthiness reducing movement speed it still seems a little harsh. I guess the idea is to pop the ability near a node when a mob is in the way, loot the node, get out and take the ability off.
Technically we should learn the ability for rank 60 and below mobs at rank 48, but the same could be said for Lay of the Land and other scan abilities. Gathering rank cap really should be 45 because content beyond that hasn't been added.
Think it needs a Rank V version that goes up to level 60 an below mobs, obtained at level 48 but very nice for the DoL,
(Though i don't know how often players need to look around the areas with L50+ mobs for gathering locations, so i could be totally wrong with that.:p )
But Great idea, and lol, making people walk, But I have to agree with Sephr, I'm hoping for some visual effect, just not us looking transparent please, dark smoky effect over the character maybe?
What rank are the Efts at Treespeak? The ones that cover the harvesting point?
I will take walking rather than having to run away and wait for gap any day.
Cant remember rank of Kobolds at Iron Lake either, should help people doing Leves.
Kobolds at Iron Lake are only in the low 40s.
I don't think any grade 5 nodes have 50+ mobs near them other than the NMs but I thought they moved the nodes away from those.
I do wish they would have kept it consistent with Prospect, Lay of the Land and other such abilities however. Will be odd getting Coeurl Step IV when you get Lay of the Land V. It sould have been like this:
Coeurl Step I
Learned at level 1. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 10 and below.
Coeurl Step II
Learned at level 8. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 20 and below.
Coeurl Step III
Learned at level 18. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 30 and below.
Coeurl Step IV
Learned at level 28. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 40 and below.
Coeurl Step V
Learned at level 38. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 50 and below.
In Treespeak, the Ixali are no higher than rank 49. ^_^
Its a nice idea, but I am not sure how useful this would be. As pointed out, it is doubtful it would work on NM's so it wouldn't have helped before they moved Daddy Longlegs. Most of the areas I gather in are fairly safe, Mosshorn has got me a couple of times and I have spent a bit of time running round Daddy, but the only place it could be useful is dodging the Black Efts near Treespeak (according to yg they are 45-49).
Now, if this could be equipped on another class, that is a different matter :)
Give it 2 days, scrubs will find something to nitpick about it.
ZOMG I CAN ONLY WALK. Y R U TIMESINK US SE?
IT COSTS 3k MARKS? WTF? I CANT DO 2 LEVES PER WEEK!
And so on...
I for one am glad to see it!
why not just give them 1 ability that gives stealth to all level monsters? Kind of seems like they are doing the level thing so you dont go above your nod level, but people dont do that anyways. Just one stealth skill would just be a heck of a lot less work right?
IMO...
Characters should put on a 'poorly' crafted costume of a beastmen to remain 'unseen' from the enemy.
Great addition. No more failing leves trying to kite high level agro mobs out of the way of nodes.
So what will happen with the Eluder Ability? I wasted marks to buy them! I demand refund!
i hope they give it a nice invisible effect or something, it would be really dumb to activate the stealth ability and look like a 5yr old walking between his parents thinking they cant see him cause he has the harry potter cloak on.. we seee you junior!!!!
true but there is no reason to be there other then for looking around. DoL are already limited by the node finder, so unless they happen to come by higher grade ones, its not easy without it.
Just seems like extra work to prevent essentially nothing from happening.
As a rank50 fisher i can't say i ever had a problem with mobs. Maybe the NM was in the way at Wells now and again but it wasn't difficult to avoid it. Oh well, i guess it's another skill on my list that will never get used.
Can't wait to get my chocobo with stabilizers. ;)
Thank you SE for not making this a 5min cooldown ability that only lasts for 10secs.
I thought for sure thats what you were going to give us . . .
While it sucks that movement speed is so reduced, you really dont need stealth on for that long of a distance so it should be manageable.
I don't really like the name of the ability itself, Camoflauge seems a better fit for the effect. Other than that, I give it a thumbs up :D
The name is indeed odd. Coeurls have always been fast moving mobs in FF games. Didn't Yoshi recently mention that these mobs will be implemented soon too? They're already in the dats and look cool.
Yeah, think there's gonna be a Coeurl nm at the very least if I read LftP XVI correctly. I see the name "Coeurl Step" and I immediately think they're trying to place it into ff11 for their Dancer job.
Also, is there a way to get a pic of a ff14 coeurl? If not, guess we won't have to wait very long to find out :D
I also really hope there's a kind of transparency effect or something associated with this. Looks silly just being able to walk through them normally.
I'm guessing the idea behind the name is that cats stalk silently, and the only cats in Eorzea would be coeurls.
General FYI: the Japanese name for the ability (also tentative) is "Equip Stealth" where "Stealth" is the English word.
I'm basing this off of the image seen on Lodestone, and would like to say we won't look transparent when the skill is in use. I could care less either way, but I already know some people are going to complain about it come time it is implemented... :/
Checked in Yoshi-P about some of the questions that popped up in this thread!
We're looking into having a kind of half/semi-visible effect on your character.Quote:
Will there be some kind of invisible effect for when you're under the effects of "Coeurl Step"?
It depends on the specific NM. So be on the watch out for very strong enemies that are nearby!Quote:
Will we be attacked by NMs that are higher than rank 50?
I'm going to go out on a limb say it probably depends on whether the NM aggros you or not and what their hidden level is. It's not like the Sirocco was going to attack you in the first place. And Daddy Longlegs has an effective level around 42, so the relevant ability would protect you.
But the Great Buffalo, Dodore or the Elder Mosshorn? Go fish!
I apologize if this has been asked but what exactly does the dev team plan to do with the eluder skills? With the introduction of these sneak abilities it appears the abilities purchased with Guild Marks will be completely useless. If I may perhaps suggest something in the manner that you change Eluders to work like these upcoming sneak abilities however they work on any level but only on those mob types.
Since there will be a point where a gatherer will find themselves around a mob over lv 50 I think it would be wise if the Eluder abilities could at least be revamped to work on any level mob of those mob types. At least then they can see themselves being useful rather then a one time lol 10 min recast ability. Seriously that's prolly the most dissapointed I've ever been with an ability. You use it and you can evade one ONE mob. I mean seriously did the dev team that made that move consider how utterly useless that ability is. It would've worked better as an aura that protect you against a mob type for a certain amount of time and if they did that then you wouldn't have to keep adjusting mob placement. The only reason mob placement needs to be adjusted is because the manner in which we can get around is hampered by the inability to sneak and invisible around.
The reason why mob placement worked in XI is because we had abilities to conceal ourselves from stronger mobs allowing us to move forward without being forced to engage in battle, but when it get rid of such a unique trait in an mmo you really put XIV a step behind in terms of what XI offered. I'm pretty sure a lot of people were confused by the lack of sneak invisibility in XIV since it was a pretty unique thing to see offered in an MMO.
I agree that all we need is sneak and invisibility. Spells, potions etc. I was SHOCKED not to see it in FFXIV.
You Devs could save a lot of time by skipping the eluder and stealth skills or traits and just give us those.
It really seems useless to be capped at level 50 mobs when what I really need is to sneak by those level 80 crabs guarding Isles of Umbra.
Seconded. We just need true stealth capabilities - not something that's tied to a specific class or requires leveling and obtaining guild points in a class my not not necessarily even wanted to have leveled..
Or, as an alternative to stealth, refining mob roaming patterns so that it's easier to get from point A to point B is another option. Realistically speaking, it makes little sense for aggressive mobs to hang around well traveled areas - previous adventurers would've been attacked by them and smashed them into oblivion (with the exception of NMs). If there's no sneak/invis as we knew it in FFXI, there should be an aggro free way to get to any destination.
I like the idea that DoL can actually do their field work in the vicinity of aggressive monsters. In FFXI, you couldn't do any mining/harvesting while under the effects of stealth abilities/spells/consumables. So I think that's great for DoL.
Can we get a Disciple of Everything Else equivalent that just lets us stroll through the hordes? Imagine strolling through Kuftal Tunnel (pre 75) without sneak/invis/prism powders/silent oils/spectral jig.
