Some endgame gear does come from crafting, actually.
Also a reason is gil. You can craft food for people to use endgame. Craft items for people to use when leveling to get materia. Craft custom HQ potions for people to use in raids... there are a lot of reasons to craft. (And of course those endgame gears too).
one of my FC friends said highest item lvl that can be made by crafting are ilvl70, is that true?
I saw most of player out there are wearing ilvl120-130.
Highest gear that is craftable is atm i110 and can be overmelded better than/equal to the i130 regular gear. Especially in Final coil people use the crafted accessoried to hit the HP needed and for sch dps the accuracy.
The crafts are 4 star and as it it costs lots of gil and time to get there the crafts are around 500k + so not affordable if you play too casual :P
Tho if you just started recently i recommend to gear first the regular way with BcoB/ScoB, Dungeon Drops, Tower drops and if you then feel like raiding in Final coil you always have the opportunity to create your own BiS with crafted parts ^^
I'm only understand half of it, not really familiar with the term yet.
Oh sorry my bad >.<
BcoB = Binding Coil of Bahamut
ScoB = Second Coil of Bahamut
Towers includes Labyrinth of the Ancients (CT), Syrcus Tower(ST), World of Darkness(WoD)
Please be aware that WoD has a weekly lockout means you can loot only 1 piece per week
and BiS is Best in Slot, you want certain stats more than others, avoid some. If you go into Coils/ EX Primals you also want to meet a certain accuracy (link below)

If you rather want o go for the crafting itself be aware that endgame crafting takes a lot of gil and time.
You will want the crafted artisans gear and over meld it. You will want most crafting classes on level 50 for the cross abilities. Maybe you even want gathering classes to get your incredients.
For endgame crafting it is a certain item to craft in HQ hand in in a certain amout to get better tools / gear pieces and the so- called masterbooks.
Quests for that are located in MorDhona if im not mistaken.
Well hope that answers some questions :/
may I know where can I ge that black Bunny hat?
I want it for my lalafel.
It's a drop frmo an unhidden leather treassure map or you can buy it off the marketboard for probably a ton of gil. It's a spriggan hat. Bunny outfit is coming with 2.51 as a reward in gold saucer.
The spriggan cap is from Unhidden Leather Map - Which drops from Boarskin and Peiste Maps.
To do Maps you need to do a level 40 quest in Wineport, i dont recall its name.
I got mine as a christmas gift :P
On our server some mil gil on market board :/ as it is double luck to get it at all (first the unhidden map then the cap).
GL on gettin it
I saw some lalafel wear it and it's so adorable.
I'm still only low-level but I've been crafting as an armorer since I started as a way of earning gil and also to make HQ gear supporting my tank. I figure this is what most people do, leveling a craft alongside their combat class.
Personally I really enjoy it as a change of pace from combat. It adds a dimension of interaction with the in-game economy too that I imagine is the intention.
Something I wish to point out: If you're looking to upgrade your own stuff, it may be a good idea to level all your crafters together. Cross-class abilities are vital, plus not everything you make will be armorer. Pants may be weaver, accessories are goldsmith, may need leatherworker to make ingredients, blacksmith for your weapon, culinarian for your food (Which you really should be using. As a leveling tank, do some simple math to find out what gives the most parry at your level)
To reach 4 star crafter (2.4 Bis) (8 jobs) I spent at least 50 mil gils, since I havent leveled Desyns on any of my crafters.
I rarely farm for mats too >_< which i should..
I heard from most of player saying that crafting cost lot of gil which is totally opposite from what I think at first.
Why it so costly? We craft our own stuff from our own collected mats.
Crafting is costy if you do not gather all your own mats and dont spiritbound for your materia melds. If you dont have enough GC seals to spend on the additional items for the 2 star HQs (pottash, animal fat,....).
In general if you have the time and patience to invest all this your costs are 0 gil. but if you dont, wanna go faster or you are just lazy in one of the steps it costs you loads of gil.
Also you can easily fuck up high tier crafts if you dont have the crossskills/rotation... for hints use

In general crafting in FFXIV is pretty complex with melding, overmelding, rotations, crossskills and obtaining mats...
Also before I forget is recent 3+ star crafting often based on so-called demimateria which you obtain with a pretty ugly RNG through desynthesis (when you get craft to 30 unlock in Ul'Dah at market). Especially if you want the Supra/Lucis Tools you need VERY rare Mastercraft demimateria which you obtain by desynthing the Artisans tools/glasses. Master demi is at market idk depending on day 500k-2m
Hmmm... just try it first lol
Ur going to have to spend something.
Time or gil
Gil ensures reliable statistics while time can vary depending on rng.
Both are costly and can leave u drained either of gil or the will to play cuz u'll get burnt out from rng fails ( 10 melds failed in a row etc or botching an expensive desynth at 90%+ 3 times in a row).
My motto "patience is a virtue"
Good luck with crafting it is very hard and expensive journey to get up to date with crafting gear at this point, my friend took couple of months break from the game and after he came back he used around 20-25 mil to get updated on he's gears from just 1 patch but once you do get the gears you will start generating the money back but just be ready for the hard competition, at this in the game I would personally suggest for you to get all crafting classes to lv 50 so you get all the cross skills and get ready for heavensward as you have to level all the crafters to 60 once it comes out and then see the new crafting gears at lv 60 as the current ilv 70 gear will be outdated in the expansion, so focus on leveling the gears and do little bit of spirit bonding with crafting gears to have materias ready for heavensward crafting sets
It's actually not THAT expensive after the most recent patch. While fully melded crafted artisans to have the highest stats may be expensive, if you buy the Ixali gloves, and just fully meld the level 55 accessories you should be able to get turn in items for level 70 tools and artisan gear. Do that to gear up, then aim for the level 75 and 90 tools. With all that, you should be able to have decent enough stats to make some money, and work on replacing your turn-in artisan's with crafted artisans :)
I started leveling my first DOH after 2.4 patch right now I am working on 2.5 bis for all 8 jobs. Needless to say, every single gil I have made since 2.0 they are all gone into my crafters

In endgame, crafting is basically good for three things:
1. Making money.
2. Accessories with vitality melded. Normal accessories for non-tank classes give you 0 vitality, so vitality melded accessories are legitimately better than higher level normal accessories. All other crafted gear is inferior to higher level regular gear which is also more easily obtainable.
3. Helping people much further behind you with gear. Pre-50, HQ equipment is very nice to have (although unnecessary). For a fresh 50, i90 gear is a great way to kick start them into endgame, but they will quickly acquire better gear if they are doing up to date content.
