How to make good gil?

Hello everyone!

Anyone know good ways to make gil in this game? Leves arent all that and you have to wait a while before they reset. Crystals and shards dont sell the way they used to either :\

So what are some good ways to make gil in this game? What are some of the ways you guys do it?

Please NORMAL answers only -.- I dont need to hear "get a whole slave army of lalas to mine for you" <-wack! :)

farm mobs
sell drops

buy underpriced logs in wards
vendor them

Leves still give a good amount of gil (I think like 2k or 5k for R20 leves?)
Leathers and pelts vend for a quite a bit (like 300 gil for a Marmot Pelt I think)
Repairing items can make you like 1 or 2k per repair, but most people just offer the amount of gil the Dark Matter costs or the Dark Matter. A lot of people offer less, too :[

Could always level Leatherworker.
From a single dodo skin (not including shard costs) you can get about 7.5k worth of dodo skin vamps if you NPC them. (rank 18 synth so can even use it to level from rank 13 or so)

Including shard costs you could probably make about 5k~ profit from each one if you sell the vamps to an NPC.
Just make sure you don't botch any :P
I'd guess you'd make more gil this way as you do higher rank vamps as well.

A great market for money is selling arrows because it's always in demand so if you invest some time in carpenter and mass produce arrows the profits can be epic =O!

Also Falcus buy dodo skin, you mean level up leatherworker, make the dodo skins and sell them to the npcs? Is there a specific one I should be selling them to, or do they all give the same prices? o.o

They give the same prices. It only really works for dodoskin vamps tho, after that getting leather isnt as easy/cheap as it is with dodo~

Miner rank 20 or so and sell your silver it sells well and is easy to mine at tranquil. Botany npc ur logs you make 300-1k gil per log depending what you get. Ive been cranking fisher and made about 13m from 18 to 39 minus gear costs as i ranked

Fishing would be a great gold-mine IMHO, while I'm not one myself the money I spend on Fish for Alchemy is astounding. If you want a double whammy, Fish and level Alchemy and sell the mass ammounts of crystals you make for mad cash.

As said, crafting leads to profit if you're smart about it, even at the low levels, but selling raw materials works quite well too.

If crafting just isn't your thing, crystal shards come in abundance off of mobs, and sell for a good chunk of change in bulk. Consider Botany also, quite easy money.

But ultimately, crafting is the path to becoming wealthy, rather than rich.

Fishing, mining and botany all can net you some good gil. Simply selling the mats you get or using them yourself to level up your crafts is a good idea.

As said, vamps throughout the easy levels of leathworking will get your some great gil, just selling the vamps from the toadskin levels alone got me about 1mil, and soon i'll be doing the highest tier of toadskin vamps which i'im sure will get me near another mil.

Besides that, arrows sell really well. I've stockpiled a lot of vulture feathers and soon i'll be on my way to making about 100 stacks of silver arrows, for a total of 4mil after i'm done.. and i have most of the mats already!!

For BSM and ARM, you can HQ items easily at the higher levels. I've found HQ tools/weapons aren't that hard to make, and finished items are easier to HQ than components.

With alchemy you can break down fish into shards/crystals, or break clusters into massive amounts of crystals. Leveling fishing and alc at the same time is a great idea, as you'll have plenty of fish to rank up and it's smooth sailing.

For weaver, you can make the R21 underwear, or level it up as a subjob for other crafts. Not sure what else with wvr makes a lot of gil.. HQ items I'm sure.

Since I despise crafting and would rather farm mobs for gil, what I do is find which gear people want the HQ versions of, do a bit of research with www.yg.com, and go out and get the HQ drops to sell. I've made upward of 45mil from farming such items in a relatively short amount of time. Also, managing your retainers well and selling what can actually be used in a synthesis could keep you from actually ever having to farm just to keep yourself up and running. I do keep a window of YG open just to check items that I've gotten randomly while out grinding and whatnot.

Just like Kala said above me, he uses Vulture feathers for arrows that will obviously sell well. For the right price, I'm sure crafters would like to be saved the headache of actually doing the farming themselves.

Last time I checked, squirrel pelts sold for about 4k a piece on Palamecia. You can find those off arbor squirrels in Coerthas. For me, I'd spend a few gil and make them into squirrel fur and sell them for 8k. Being probably the only person on the server selling those, I could possibly get away with selling them for more. The fur sells pretty darn fast, also.

I put up all my shards last night (999 in five different categories)

They were all gone this morning and I was quite a bit richer. Not sure what you're talking about.

Sell things people need. The more expensive and in demand, the better... The more flooded the market, the less appealing it is.

No shortage of ways to acquire those things either. Battle jobs can farm, gathering jobs can gather, and crafting jobs have a wide range of things they can keep stocked in the wards to sell, just a matter of retainer and bazaar upkeep really, past that the gil makes itself practically.

If you wanna get a group thing going, could always farm teh NM's... Dunno if those drops still sell like they used to though. Can also try for the runestone gear from faction leves, but again, no idea how much that stuff goes for now.

As far as what sells, it varies. Poke around the wards, find stuff that isn't in stock or is low in stock but sells fast, and capitalize on it. If a market is flooded and the prices are shot, save what you have til the price comes up again, assuming it will. Obviously, if a patch changes either the supply or demand, and a market is crashing where you know it won't pick back up, that's about the only time you wanna start the ruthless undercutting to offload your stock.

In the long run, you'll do much better with certain practices and a moderate income than you would if you ignored them and had a fairly high income. The trade off of course is usually time. Don't buy stuff at a high cost if you can make or get it made for a tenth the price, which is true for 90% of the gear in the wards. For crafting, supplement your mat stocks by farming on jobs you level, or gathering, or if you really need to, on a job that can't get SP, but that's often a waste imo. When you do need mats or shards from the wards, have some patients and wait for the market to flood, prices can naturally vary by quite a lot. Say you need tons of shards, and the average price is 150... If you wait a while, and keep an eye out, you'll probably see them drop to 100 when the market floods, even lower sometimes. Then you buy them all up. Same goes for a ton of stuff, and with enough purchases, that can save you fortunes.

Speaking of that, if you have gil to invest, and patience to go with it... Buying and selling can make you a good chunk of gil if you play your cards right... I don't normally go that route though, I prefer to let people who actually need the stuff to buy it, rather than plunder the good deals and resell them... Kind of a crummy gil making tactic tbh, but it can and does work, so people will do it... Can also backfire though.

You can also do certain more tedious synths for gil, that nobody else wants to do. It's a pretty big timesink, and I wouldn't bother, but if you're really strapped for gils it can get you a bit of it... Perfect example would be turning crystals into shards... If you go and buy crystals cheap, then break them, you can triple w/e money you spent on the crystals easily, even if you sell the shards cheap. More if you HQ them, or at a faster rate with hasty hand.

Again, stuff varies all the time... But look for some of the higher priced stuff and go gather some up. There's logs and hides that fetch 10k+ easy and are really not that tough to get... Flax and cotton bolls sell for less, but their needed by the hundred and will sell in mass, also they're not hard to get in good quantities. Sinews, fish, ore, etc are also good, and all are especially susceptible to market fluctuations, so hoard them up and sell high when things get low in stock.

Ultimately, the best gil you'll make will come from crafting. If you invest the significant time and gil into getting one or more crafts up there, you will be able to make plenty of gil just from keeping normal quality wares in stock that people need. Not to mention that the HQ items you can make can fetch quite a pretty penny on top of it.

In the more long term, crafting is even more lucrative... When new gear comes out, the first few HQ versions of it, especially the HQ3's, sell for truly enormous amounts sometimes. Milk it for all it's worth. If someone wants to be one of the first on the server to get a HQ3 shiny new piece of gear, they have to pay out the nose for it because of all the demand and the lack of supply. Play your cards right and you can make all the gil you'll need til the next big update just from milking one batch of new items like that.

So really, all it takes to make gil is a little market research, planning, and initiative. Any specific method someone tells you will never be the best, or even that good of a way to make gil. It'll be mediocre at best really. Reread this post, think it over, and then go try some things out and hone in on what works well for you that also fits your playstyle, and you shouldn't have any problems with gil. That goes for anyone. If you don't spend a whole lot, you can get by so easily it'll hardly be worth mentioning... If you plan on spending huge amounts, capping loads of crafts, decking yourself out with +3's, and having vast pools of gil... Well, it's not out of your reach, you just have to put in a lot of time preparing your characters crafts and your knowledge, and you can be raking in the millions of gils... Whether all that effort is worth it to you is another matter, really depends on your playstyle... Might be better off fishing or chopping wood... Gil isn't everything after all. :P

Still though, if crafting is a game you like to play, and you do end up getting good at it... You'll be able to make a whole nights worth of farming look like chump change in a relatively short session of crafting. And if you have space, it's always a good idea to keep the mats handy to make more easily and quickly. Really though, with 2 retainers, you can stock 20 different items. Play it right and the gil just pours in. The HQ's you get you can put in your personal bazaar and go out and sell by making your bazaar get some views or depending on your item, if you absolutely have to... /shout.

That about sums up the advice I has for anyone looking to make some gils. If you're absolutely against gathering and crafting, and are still a low lvl battle job, at least pick your target mobs well... For example, if you level on opo's, you get boatloads of worthless fruit. If you level on wolves, you get buffalo hides and some other mats. In parties, try and lean towards other profitable mobs.

Snowtiger that is some great advice. Im not a crafter and i know i am squandering much gil i get from from gathering but i enjoy that a thousand fold to crafting. However i can't say im gil deprived since i hardly have anything to really buy anyways. I am stockpiling every gil i make in preparatikn for the materia system. I think that system is going to be moving gil in a lot of different direction so i wanna be able to farm it via mining bot anf fish. Thats my long term plan. But i have to say thanks for making change my perspective. Liytle to help myself out
