Healing spells damaging undead - Can we have it?

This is something I've always like about the final fantasy genre. Whenever you play each one there are certain pillars of combat that remain consistent and are fun to utilize for strategy.

In this case I'm referring to the opposite nature of monsters with the undead status.

Spells that are essentially white healing magic such as ressurect, cure/curaga/etc, and even potions (although I may be mistaken on this one) are great offensive spells for once, and give healers a sense of offensive power when used on undead. It's great to fit into your strategy. Instead of using your cure spells for healing it may be better to sacrifice the mp for offense :).

Also spells like absorb or drain hp would have the opposite effect on undead and actually heal them instead of suck out their hp which was a neat little backwards trick to watch out for.

I could think of boss battles or perhaps even notorious monster taking advantage of this nice little nuance to the game's combat :D.

Yeah I was surprised you couldn't heal the undead to do damage on this one. You could even do it on XI.

Although nukes would still be cheaper than cures at the moment and inflict probably the same dmg ._.

I too was just talking about this with some friends this evening and how it should be brought up to the dev team and addressed, after all, they let us target the event NPC bombard and heal it, so healing the undead shouldn't been too hard to pull off, unless I'm wrong, it could be a root issue...

Never the less, I feel this should be resolved, but in the proper priority order. :)

Not trying to say no, but with the high mp cost of cures, why would you waste a cure on an undead?

Because like in Ff games the damage dealt is so massive it's worth the cost. This is why high risk and reward weaknesses and strengths are a good thing. To be honest all the elemental attributes in this game should be cranked up to make more of a difference.

I agree with the massive damage, though the damage dealt would have to be doubled to make up for the cost. That, or have a secondary Con heal the party.

With the mp cost of the heal spells it wouldn't be rentable.

This is very FF-like, and it will make white mage become a main damage dealer to those skeleton in raid.

MP costs be damned...this is FF, cure should damage undead. <---period

I am all for Cures doing damage to the undead.

But for those who cure the undead, and forget to keep the tank alive, and then they die and then comes the major wipe... shame on you if that happens. I'll hit you with Flare!!!

I always enjoyed killing the Phantom Train with an elixir early in VI. Once I learned you could do that it just seemed like the right thing to do every playthrough. Almost like part of the story.

Yea Undead should be dmged by healing magic it's common sense in FF world =P
And in other FFs Raise / Life / Phoenix down or any other sort of ressurecting skill would also dmg them or kill instantly , of course 1-shooting with raise is probably out of the question lol

+1, not sure res should work tho, i'd assume it would be death n would b OP, unless resist rate is high

Regardless of the cost of the cure spells, it should still be possible to use them to hurt undeads. Using them or not to that end should be the WHM (or player)'s choice and not a game limitation.

I hate to necro bump a topic, but I whole-heartedly agree with the request here. It is reasonable, it is classic, and I doubt it would take much effort to implement and balance, if SE really wanted to, seeing how few undead are implemented in FFXIV presently. It should act like holy damage to all undead, including skeletons, ghosts, and other necrotic beasts.

Also, if they ever add a status effect such as "Zombie" to players, cures should have the same damaging effect to them, unless the status effect has first been removed. Just like it was in previous titles. (Note: a full party with zombie effect was the equivalent of a wipe.)

I wish I had the link but I think the dev team commented on this saying that they are planning in this but didn't have an ETA. My thought now is this might come in 2.0 :)

It's a balance thing, too
Say you cast Curaga on a zombie. You heal your entire party and attack the zombie the same time.
Maybe SE could make it that only single target heal can cast on undeads.

Actually, that existed as a strategic penalty with AoE party cures. One had to account for that risk to survive.

While ask for this, might as well ask for survive ability for WHM as well, kill undead wont save their butt in pvp at 2.0
