Please consider adding besieged in the future. It was quite enjoyable in XI and I think that it would fit in quite well in the expansion. It would be fun and add more open world content other than FATEs and hunts.

Besieged was actually super fun. /signed on this
so basically you want attack on highbridge episodes 1-3 but running directly to Ul'dah
No, those are meaningless Fates for which failure has no consequence other than missing out on some XP and seals. Besieged had a lot more going for it, with NPC's being captured and needing rescue before their services could be acquired, as well as buffs added to the Sanction status such as bonus Regen and Refresh.
It's was far more dynamic, and also a lot more fun with some of the biggest and strongest bosses in the game as well as lots of experience points to be earned and fun status bonuses for the duration. Who doesn't love downing a wizard drink and running around with double their normal MP or giving yourself a massive damage surge with a tonic or two?
It'd be fun but holy crap will the crying be there. Besieged was nothing but a lagfest every time that I did it. Everyone and everything was rubberbanding until it ended. Given how many people do hunts because of reward benefit, just imagine the mayhem and inability to do anything when it comes to a ton of mobs and so forth lol. This sort of thing would probably have to be a capped instanced, which is technically what Besieged was anyway I guess. Given how relatively stable Frontlines is, I'd imagine it'd be stable enough in that sort of environment.
We had this in 1.0. It was called "Hamlet Defense".

ok so attack on highbridge. BUT WITH CONSEQUENCES.
It could work on Ishgard, seeing as how they've been at war with Dravania for a very long time and they're constantly under attack. Even the city seems to have some damaged areas and rubble based on the videos and screens that they've shown so far.
Man besieged was so fun....buuut I don't think it would work well with what we have now. Sad we can't have cool things that aren't controlled scripted instanced content. Fun as some of the content is.....well you know.
Thats what im talking about. In Ishgard it'd make sense. And it'd add more open world content. Hopefully if its done right it wouldnt make people as angry as hunts do. It could also be a way of lvling to 60 as i remember Besieged in XI gave EXP and rank in the city. It'd be cool
Ah right, Besieged, that thing where you got one-shotted by something you couldn't see due to player/enemy density in the zone, and nothing showed in your battle log because you couldn't see it.
Besieged was fun... when I wasn't lagged out... Something like that could be interesting in XIV, but I'd prefer something like Campaign Battle. That was fun.
Anything fun is welcomed cuz we gonna need new things to do when we level to 60.
Don't want to spam fates in 3.0 cuz you know.... It's the expac and not 2.0.
Would love to see Besieged again only better optimized. It was fun but it could get old being killed by something you couldn't even see.
Something like Garlean Invasion 1.21?

I thought they had eluded to this type of thing happening at Ishgard in 3.0 somewhere? Either in a live letter or at one of the fanfests.
it was always laggy but a lot of fun too lol
/agreed op
This would be fun to see in FFXIV. In fact, with the premise of the expansion I kind of thought a system like this or similar to it would be on the horizon. As laggy as it was, I really enjoyed besieged back when everyone that could fit into the zone would cram themselves in there and defend Al Zahbi. And the little cutscenes before and after were nice touches as well.
Ishgard makes sense as a target but Ul'dah may as well be soon an action-able location, with all the political turmoil. While I don't want to have a broken city* forever I think it would be quite neat if they have the process of the political structure deteriorating, evil syndicate members fighting for power, and the people fighting back in a war for the new Ul'dah. It would make a good dungeon but I thought maybe they could open up Sil'dih as a temp area that gets cleared out and then having a magnificent magical underground city..
Dunno, those zombies may be hard to clear out but I like the idea of change over time and like even more the idea that sometimes things don't "upgrade" but actually fall apart and are not rebuilt*. Ishgard upgrading sounds likely but that's not exactly what I meant, lol. Edit: I really like the changes made to Mor Dhona and other areas, not to put those changes down - but growth is the first natural expectation, destruction without literal regrowth is less common and both together I think make an even more lively world feeling, but again I've loved seeing the game make changes to areas over time.
Anyway more on point, I liked Besieged I thought it was pretty fun - consequences were interesting, I imagine they could bring back hamlets with consequences too. If they could make a FC housing instance It could be interesting if they had critical/useful NPCs and functions to your town, attacked by jealous and looting beast tribes building strongholds nearby, and interested enemy FC spy and war activity into a besieged content (bonus for participating but you can decide not to be admitted into a roster of attack-able towns).
*May initially seem to be conflicting points, I mean that I don't want the Immortal Flames and the people of Ul'dah to have a broken city forever - if they move cities then that new city would not be broken would meet the point of not having a broken one, even if it was a different place. Not that I don't mind Ul'dah it's quite nice, but someone was terrible enough to not put an aetheryte shard in the market area for a market focused city so maybe we do need to rebuild... lol
"Huh, I'm charmed now."
"Huh, I'm petrified now."
"Huh, I'm dead now. Wish I could see what's doing all this."
"Hope somebody can see my dead body and bothers to raise me before time runs out."
"Crap, time ran out. No exp or Imperial Standing for me. Well, there's an hour wasted."
I actually liked Besieged, but it was definitely too ambitious for a platform like PS2, and even for most PC players at the time. Is it too ambitious for current platforms? I guess that depends on how you feel about Behemoth or Odin fights. I think that Besieged would be very similar in terms of player density. If you find Odin or Behemoth to be unplayable, Besieged would be much the same...
