In-game Explanation for Arrows

I might have missed one of the dialogues of the various citizens of Gridania, but is there an in-game explanation for the non-use of arrows in Archery? To those Archers who played 1.0, you may "fondly" remember having to buy/craft your ammunition. Or is it widely accepted that the Carpenters' Guild manufactures these arrows just like having Gerolt manufacture kettles? (Poor Beatin...)

I'm hoping there's an explanation to rid the requirement of the use of arrows, much like how the lore was able to explain away the use of anima to teleport between aetherytes. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to craft these anymore and I'm loving my stash space.

I think arrows fall under the same category as toilets and sleep; these things are just assumed to be part of your downtime, and carry a negligible cost. Gil is worth 10 times what it was before the Calamity because arrows were removed, so we can assume they are SUPER cheap.

Explanation= Yoshida was probably as annoyed by 1 gil per normal arrow price just like us 1.0 players were.

Any real reasoning can be stated to one of two things, we're the WoL and people just give us arrows because "Hey the WoL has a bow, I bet he could use some arrows for that, here no charge" or The GCs provide us our supply and we just kinda get them delivered by our glorious mail moogles ala Moogle PS.

Then there's the old cop out answer, "Itz magics bro, don't questionz da magics"

The secret truth is, Bards in FFXIV don't shoot arrows at all. They just pull their bowstrings back and dry-fire them, singing all the while. The damage they deal is actually psychological - the enemies are so pained by their ill treatment of their bows AND their awful singing that they just stab themselves every time you "fire an arrow." Any arrow you see on your screen is just a shared delusion because you really want there to be arrows. But, sadly, there simply aren't.

Since gil devalued to a tenth of its previous value, that sounds right --- I'm guessing Archers can just retrieve their arrows in the field too.

That's what I feared. Oh well, I was just curious if I missed Luciane's lecture. Or she was just secretly rich and gave fledgling Archers millions of gil to spend on arrows.

I like the idea of Archers getting a free courier moogle though. :D

So there are no Bards that can really sing well, eh?

Whilst I miss the days of being able to change what type of ammunition to use, I don't miss the inventory hassle of it all and running short of a specific type.

In FFXI where you had about 6 different types (acid, poison, darkness, paralyzing, sleep and blind?) you became very versatile, especially when dealing with mobs solo.

It would be great if there could be an ability like fists of fire/wind/earth could be used for bards where it changes your arrow head for a different effect but then i guess we already have those abilities, perhaps we just need a few more like a blood-drain ability (20% of DMG dealt is absorbed as HP) which may well be added in 3.0

Yeah, I'm pretty sure "Venomous Bite" is simulating you firing a poisoned arrow, "Flaming Arrow" is simulating you firing an arrow that's on fire, "Blunt Arrow" is you firing a... blunt arrow, and "Windbite" is... uhh..... I got nothing.

:P It's still the odd one out because it's the only one that pretty much has to be magical despite doing purely physical damage. Poisoned arrows, flaming arrows, and blunt arrows are all things that can exist without magic. Wind elemental arrows sounds like magic, and testing with Foes Requiem has confirmed that it is purely physical, mechanically. So, I was trying to think of some sort of non-magic arrow that Windbite could be that would cause damage over time. All I can come up with is another type of poison from Venomous Bite, one that makes you have trouble breathing.

Windbite simply opens a large wound in an uncovered area, exposing it to the elements. The wind comes from the environment.

So probably a really big and really sharp broad head arrow that causes a big flesh wound?

As for the broader topic of the thread at large, I once imagined that we'd be able to swap out quivers for extra effects, but the skills themselves seem to allow us to do that on their own just fine. I like to imagine that, as Andaeron said, we just don't see people refilling their quivers every now and again (the same way we don't see them hit the outhouse or apply ointment to the various rashes that I assume are prevalent in Eorzea). Likewise I imagine that the archer/bard in question has a few types of arrows in the quiver and a few phials of applicants that we just don't see made discrete.

I don't know my self but I do agree with a couple possible reasons. However I usually compare what Arc/Brd are shooting to the bow used in that old Dungeons and Dragons tv series. Or in this case (since we also have a quiver) a bottomless quiver to draw arrows from. Personally I hated range jobs in XI due to the expense of buying ammo, and the RNG involved with leveling craft skills and harvesting resources on top of needing to have the highest tier rounds to use.. Either way lets be thankful we have a bottomless amount of ammo on Brd and Nin. Other wise they would consume way more inventory than anything else, and would always run out of them given how fast we shoot and how many can be shot on quick nock, rain of death and volley. On that note, lets also be thankful that Nin also doesn't need to carry sacks of tools to perform ninjutsu (thank you Naruto) as well as ranged shuriken to throw.
