Buff Blizzard 2 for BLM

WTFFFF is this???!?!?!

Trying to use this spell for control, but the mobs resist its bind completely after awhile. Making it completely useless for control or DPS.

This used to be a good spell for pbAoE DPS.

What happened to this spell?? It's super bad. Buff it Square Enix.

Hmm... I rarely, if ever, use Bliz II. Not because of damage, but because of utility. As you get higher up, spells like Fire II are better for damage and can be cast at range. Bliz II puts you in harms way. Only advantage is that with the ice buff up, you can spam Bliz II indefinitely. Then again, I think any THM/BLM worth their salt should be able to manage their MP.

The range is pointless when you're soloing though...The mobs close ground extremely fast. With Blizz 2 you can reposition and cast easily.

For solo-ing, I can understand. I'm not much of a solo-er with THM/BLM. I've always felt they were too squishy for it. "Glass cannons" as it were.

It's a utility spell, so think of it as more of a defensive cooldown rather than something to spam for dps.

I use Blizzard II as SCH in PvP to bind someone chasing me down, it's really effective.
As BLM you can actually defend flags solo against people you can't win against by simply alternating between Bind and Sleep resistance.

If you're working on the BLM relic, almost all of the alex map enemies can be bound, the same goes for other treasure map enemies.

You've gotta remember that Coil, Primals, etc is only a fraction of the post-game content, and every spell in your arsenal won't be tailored for the purpose of pulling crazy dps in them - it does not need a potency buff.

It's the universal debuff resistance system on enemies. You can apply a given debuff 3 times (with diminishing returns), and then you have to wait a full 45 seconds before you can apply it again.

Buff freeze. That's what needs a buff.

Yes, Freeze needs a complete make over. At this point it is only useful as a sparkly at weddings.

Wouldnt mind if we had 1.0s version of freeze. Decent damage and dropped your enmity by alot. Currently i dont even have it on my bar, and ive used it solely for the flashy animation.

I actually have to agree. In PvE, which is what these abilities should have been made for firstly, is almost absolutely pointless. Like, I can't remember a single instance in which I used it.

I also agree about Freeze. I've rarely used Freeze outside of PvP, if any at all. I've always thought Freeze should leave a Frostbite circle underneath the location that does low DPS and applies heavy on enemies in the Frostbite circle.

lol. Blizzard 2 once was 100 potency. it was dropped way back I think around 2.1 or 2.2. People use to spam it in FATES and it's a cross class skill to summoner and scholar so we wouldn't want them to bane dots followed by spamming blizz 2 for 100 potency instead of ruin for 80.

Simple fix: let THM/BLM keep the original version.

The only place where I use this spell is on FATE :D

Yes. This thread should be about Freeze and its almost total uselessness. Not sure what they were thinking with this spell's long casting time, low potency, and highly situational/easily broken crowd control.

I can't speak for all functioning blind but this spell is a staple in my AoE rotation.
After all the flares have been dispensed and your target is at 5% hp do you wanna risk casting a blizz 3 when it will most likely die before the cast gets off? I just run up and pump out 2 of the blizz 2 casts and move back to my spot to continue my rotation. It doesn't need a target to be cast so it's perfect for quick guaranteed rotation continuity. And yah it doesn't do nominal damage but your hitting 3-4 or more targets it's certainly viable.

What trait would you give up for this? Enhanced Surecast? Hm. That could work. You know, if it was actually a big deal.

Blizzard II is like One Ill Punch. You'll never use it in PvE except fates. You'll use it in PvP.

I find it useful when doing alexandrite maps for the adds that spawn when you're fighting the Cyclops (I forget his name). Keeps those little bastards in place until you can get to safety and blow them the hell up.

Blizzard 2 is fine the way it is, it does have it's uses.

We don't need more AoE DPS, it's about right as it is in my opinion. (and I main BLM)

No just shh, bliz 2 works as intended

Freeze has some applicable uses actually. in turn 9 try this out - when darnus jumps and you are in ice already, start precasting freeze as he is about to land, the result should be a freeze on landing which adds a tiny bit of dps to you! Other than that small obscure detail (useful while in ice, while mob is jumping) it is practically useless.

Personally I feel Freeze should add a DoT to enemies and have a normal cast time of 2.40 seconds. That alone would warrant its use as everyone welcomes another DoT to the mix, especially one with a low cast time.

The point of blm having great burst is so that you can "Kill the enemy before the enemy can kill you". bliz 2 is already good as it is, I see no point buffing a skill that you rarely use. If any one needs a buff right now, It's summoners. Deal with it and stop complaining about every single little thing

Black mage is just like WoW's balance druid. You move though phases of high damage (astral fire) and low damage (umbral ice). If anything blizzard spells should have less potency and fire spells more to maintain the average.

for the "monsters close ground fast, blizzard 2 -> run further" blizzard has heavy for 20sec. Start with ice and just transpose -> build up AF with fire and it's in most cases its dead before it can hit you more than 3 times. As for blizzard 2. If you'd want to implement that to your aoe rotation, it would have to be buffed alot to be dps increase versus F3>F2...>Flare > B3 repeat. So blizzard 2 should just be the way it is.

Another note: Lethargy. it has Slow+Heavy and if I remember correct it's on 30sec CD, shoot a fire 3 and instantly pop lethargy on the monster you're to solo and continue with fire until it's dead.

If you Swiftcast it, it goes off instantly, so you can at least hit a moving target with it. It's useful for CC on enemies that can't be slept. I found it handy in SV and AV.

However, once you are out of low level dungeons, you'd have to be pretty desperate to waste a swiftcast on it when you could swift a Flare instead.

SE should really change Freeze to have zero cast time. Then it would be a lot more useful.

Or, now thinking on a new idea, have it give us instant Umbral Ice III upon use. Make it the ice version of Flare in that aspect (except in this case, you know, not really doing any damage, it's there for the AoE and instant Umbral Ice III).

I like that idea Ryu. I have always felt that freeze was one of the uber BLM spells, like flare. It falls very short of impressive in XIV. It is never used except in very specific situations and for pretties.
