Why is Drybone so rainy?

I thought it was hilariously ironic at first then it started grating my nerves to see how it feels like half the time in ET it's raining.

Is there an official lore into this ('a god's blessing made it the rainiest part blah blah') or is this a prank by the devs?

I agree. It's become a common joke in my fc that ET is the rainiest zone in the game.

Not to my knowledge, but if you notice, Eastern Thanalan DOES contain the most green, non-cactus foliage (and no cactuars, I believe). Because of that, I'd wager a guess that it's supposed to be the Thanalan with the biggest water table. It's even got a waterfall to contribute to that torrential downpour we see there so often.

In the realm's rebirth, a lot of things in the environment changed, including the weather in some cases.

Drybone may be a rainy place these days, but back when it was named....

i just hope they change the zone in the future to reflect how all that rain effects the environment over time.

It probly has more to do with all the corrupted crystals in the Burning Wall that In balance is probly to blame.

Could be because it borders The Shroud which gets alot of rain. As you get closer to the Shroud zone line, you'll notice the area gets greener and there are much more forest-y trees instead of desert trees.

I have to agree with others. Due to the Calamity many weather/climate change has happened throughout Eorzea.

Though I do find it odd that no NPCs have mentioned the influx of rain in drybone. They all say how it's a barren outpost that's only useful due to its close proximity to Gridania

It's worth noting that, according to the main scenario quests, the Burning Wall is actually made up of wind-aspected corrupted crystals.

Don't blame Moose for that tiny image - it's how images on Wiki now auto-adjust to thumbnails if you try deeplinking to a image hosted on a Wiki page. But anyway.

There was a quest in version 1.0 that actually explained that Thanalan used to be, in the distant past, a forest like the Black Shroud - it ended up desertifying though, a change in climate not entirely to blame, but mostly it caused by monsters eating newly sprouted plants, plus gradually turning the plains arid (the quest in question involved having to kill monsters for this very reason). It's also entirely possible that the elementals in trees that grew in Thanalan just were not potent enough , unlike the Black Shroud, and thus it was never able to recover from an aetheric standpoint, unlike the Shroud. But that's just speculation on my part.

Oh wow, I have been thinking about putting up a post about this! I kind of thought that it was like a Greenland/Iceland kind of thing. Dry Bone was named to make people think it was sunny all the time. That said, I do believe the change was due to what occurred during the calamity. Also since it seems from the 1.0 screen post that all the new vegetation is there because of the change in the weather pattern. If that kept up possibly over time this area should start changing into a jungle?

Yes, it is where an area is below very tall mountains. They usually block most storms from reaching said area. Of course that can cause areas before those mountain ranges to be totally deluged. I live near an area like that. One side can get up to 200 inches a year the other side gets around 16 inches. And I see your point about Drybone.
