Gender Locked Clothes

I do not think clothes should be gender specific.

I do not think it is a political issue, unless people make it one.

Why not let people do what they want.

I have heard people say "If you don't like it go play another game." well, what game?

Wouldn't it be nice to have an MMO where people could wear what they wanted... I think ffxiv is already really awesome in the fact that the cross gender clothes look pretty much the same on each gender. Plate armor actually looks like plate armor, and skimpy looks skimpy regardless of male or female. That is awesome. it is not gender bias. So why should a dress be gender bias? Why should a skirt?

This isn't some trans-gender crossdressing outside world political agenda.

It is simply giving people the freedom to mix and match whatever clothes they find in the game without worrying about whether or not they are the right gender to wear it.

On one hand: yes, yes, YES already. Gotta love how females always have that +1 option for clothes, because there's basically no "male only" anything anymore (racial gear remains though I don't know why that even, and some beachwear parts are locked for males too but they all have a pretty much identical looking female counterpart), but dresses and skirts are still "female only". Yes, we got the Plain Long Skirt. Yes, some gear pieces are simply skirts - but notice how if equipped on a female character, they are just that: a skirt; whereas equipped by a male character, bam, they got trousers underneath the skirt. It's very inconsistent in a way, and rather frustrating.

On the other hand: yeah, I get it, the dev team is very small. However, I do get tired of hearing that excuse for everything that's being discussed/requested...

They should make males can wear Spring Dress

it's not fair that only Hildebrand can wear it

I cannot see this happening Non stop in the game, dudes running around in bra and panties and dresses.

Nah, it's just your opinion XD - but yeah, probably lot of people would be having males running around in summer dresses :)
I just think, that if they don't do this to females, and they can have male clothes (like best man's thing), it should be that there would be clothes that aren't female only.

I know what you are talking about.

Not limit things like that to just females, I agree to a extent the bra's and panties thing should be for woman only.
I couldn't think of a reason dudes would be doing this other than drag or a funny thing or trolling other guys trying to get close to them making them un easy.

Though yeah the best man suit is good and should have more stuff like that something like the turks from final fantasy 7 wouldn't mind seeing a suit like that both can wear.

Not that I'm judging but I have no desire whatsoever to "cross-dress" in real or fantasy life.

HOWEVER! There are many great looking headgear and trousers in this game that are female only for no visible reason that I DO want to wear!

The gender locking seems really arbitrary and quite honestly something we shouldn't encourage in modern video games.

Honestly, if this were done, there might be a flurry of additional cross-dressers which would die off pretty fast. After that, the handful of people with an actual demand for these pieces would be mostly trolls doing it to shock people ("Hur hur I'm a musclebound Roe dude in a dress, aren't I hilarious?") and a much smaller minority of people who honestly like the look or enjoy crossdressing their characters.

As much as I think it would be more fair if this was a thing, the simple fact is that this is a substantial amount of extra work for something that does not have a lot of demand. I doubt that it will happen. (Women dressing in men's clothing, though, caters to a MUCH larger demographic, both among male and female players, which is why it IS a thing already.)

All I'm saying, is that if I could wear that wedding dress, I'd be a lot more interested in that $40 wedding.

Also I hate the Bohemian set and would do obscene things to be able to wear Lightning's uniform...this never made any sense, though, given that there was a perfectly good male Guardian Corps uniform design they could have used.

I am really confused when I see these sorts of threads. Are there really that many people that want to crossdress? Or are you just mad that females get more genderlocked gear than males? If it's the latter...it seems a bit immature but I can understand that. If its the former...get over it. I don't have anything against anyone that wants to do that IRL, but its just how the world is, if you really wanted to play a character dressed like a girl...why dont you, I dont know, play a GIRL?

I normally try not to talk like this on forums, but these type of threads are becoming obnoxious and overabundent. Go play WoW if you want to wear a dress, thats no insult to wow, but plenty of pretty dresses for big burly men to wear there

It's more a matter of it being a bit unfair for females to be able to wear the "male" gear (suits, etc) but not vice versa. Males have very few glamour options that are exclusive to them, whereas females have tons. I have to admit, it was funny to see female characters whine about not being able to wear the groom outfit.

I totally woulda put my male Miqo'te in a dress before I fantasia'd to female. It's funny. :3

No thanks. Majority of people are hetero sexual and majority of those dislike to see things like that. It is not normal for man to wear dress, i would not call that guy a "man". There is specific male "dresses" in real world, in ancient times, but they were not called dresses. There is already skirts which belong to armor which are okay"ish", but not too feminine.
Cross dressing is disgusting and i hate it when that 0,00000001 minority tries to force it upon other people.

For those people who complain what if males will wear bra, skirt, or maybe thong in public, we have taffeta cloths or those male top swimsuit from moonfair faire festival that "almost" like bra. For skirt, we already have plain long skirt that looks same with spring skirt. And for thong, we have coeurl beach brief. So what's the reason they keep the genderlock?

My complete and total support to this, I've been using the skirt in most of my glamour since it came out and I simply love it. I can only encourage SE to give us more like this. Wearing a skirt can make you look really freaking badass when done right, to all the haters you should try it too some day soon. Golden thong are not bad either. (no pict of the skirt right now sadly)

NO I WONT GET OVER IT I see no issue with ANY gender wearing ANY clothes. You are entitled to your opinion and can express like/dislike but I will not "get over" my opinion simply because you disagree. WHAT I WANT is for there to be NO gender locked clothes PERIOD. Panties, skirts, cool epic gear, whatever. If there are overabundant threads along these lines, then perhaps there are people who also want this.

I see lots of males going shirtless. I want that same glamour option for females.

I am perfectly okay with that.

Just imagine doing a music video reenactment of "I'll make a man out of you (reprise)" and it would be awesome... It may even be a fun thing to do in roleplay... A scene where girls dress a guy in a woman's dress for fun, or a guy pretends to be a woman to stave off a jealous lover... Think of the RP screenshots being denied us!

I have to admit, I would find it a little odd seeing that Roegadyn PLD tank in a dress. Just like how for example tanks can go tank almost naked. Just something personal.

I hope they figure something out.

Again, the reason is development time. All these female-only clothes are going to need to be redesigned to be able to fit male characters. It's a lot of work, and it is work that would be done for a pretty small group of people (mostly attention-seekers, a few honest crossdressing enthusiasts).

Missed that boat - the aesthetic design is ALREADY completely ruined, and has been since the glamour system was implemented. Since it's already FUBAR'd, there's not a lot of harm in opening the floodgates further. :P

Man.. This thread again? If they do this I swear ill quit the game. Sick of all this crap. Men and Women are different for a reason. Stop trying to erase lines between the two in dress or otherwise.

I think most people tend to forget that the system of glamour in this game is taking your huge heavy armor and making it look like something else. You are still wearing that armor, it just looks different, an illusion of sort, you are not really tanking in a bikini unless you are actually using that gear and its stats.

Men and women are both human being. Nothing make it impossible for men to wear dresses but what people think of it. Everyone thinks differently and have different opinions. The way that you think isn't entitled to your sex/gender. If you are uncomfortable with this no one is forcing you to do it, that's the freedom of choice and expression. Because one person disagree it shouldn't mean someone can't do what they want as long as they are harming no one.

I don't really see your point with this picture, both those gear set can be wear by both gender (except the highlander pants) and the 'dress' he is wearing is a tabard, an actual piece of clothing men (and women?) wore in more medieval times, with the final fantasy touch to it of course.

That's a pretty bold claim. First off, you have no idea how much work went into redesigning the dress for Hildebrand to wear.

Secondly, even if they have Highlander good to go, what about the other races? There's a world of difference between the build of a Broegadyn and a Manqo'te. They will need to redesign the dress to fit the other races; the Highlander model isn't going to cut it. (Admittedly, they could probably take a shortcut for Lalas, since males and females have very similar builds).

Thirdly, that's ONE DRESS. You think the upset folks in this thread will be satisfied if SE tosses them one dress? No, they want ALL the genderlocked stuff to be available: Lightning's outfit, swimwear, hempen underwear, etc, etc.

Let's not trivialize this; if SE decided to do this, it's going to take a whole lot of work. The question are whether there actually is a significant enough demographic to justify this effort, or whether it's just a fractional minority complaining in a forum, and whether SE actually knows the statistics and finds them lacking, or whether they don't care to do the research and simply refuse to add the dresses because of traditional gender norms?

There have been times when women weren't allowed to wear pants, just like there have been times that the garment you showed above was perfectly normal for men to wear. That still doesn't make it a dress. *shrugs*
