It would be kind of unfair to change personal housing now that many people have already bought personal houses. I could see maybe adding instanced apartments or something. We already basically have that in the form of the personal rooms in FC houses, though. Maybe they'll implement some new things for those? *shrug*
All thats really been said is there will not be any housing in Ishguard (or 3.0 areas) at least not at first. Perhaps in a patch later on throughout 3.0 we might get a new housing zone/district/area/whatever.
As it stands I think they are satisfied with how housing is going and I doubt there are plans to even add more housing to the existing GC's. Much to my chagrin...
I hope they add couples housing or something soon, other than that I am fine with the housing the way it is for now.
i kind of hope they allow one to add one's Private room to a home. It feels like such a waste making one in the Guild hall when I have myown place.. but I could sure use just a little more room.
Are personal houses and FC houses the same price or are personal ones cheaper ?
Same price point, maybe a few thousand cheaper. But in the scheme of several million for a small, a couple thousand is nothing.
That's if there is a plot available to BE purchased...
Same price, but thankfully those prices are significantly cheaper than they once were.
It's still an investment of several million gil, but if you're diligent with saving and not spending on glamour and furnishings, you can save it pretty quickly. Especially if you craft or gather and know what the good items to sell are.
They really need to add way more housing. On larger servers, for players that didn't come to the game early enough the entire housing system (and all the unique game mechanics associated with it) may as well not even exist.
Aside from them saying "you wont have houses in Heavensward, yet" implying eventually there might be, it reminded me of the evolving Mor Dhona area. Its slowly evolving and this is not the only place. It's on of the precepts that the Dev team had for ARR, an evolving and growing game. They also stated there would be much fewer atherite crystals for teleporting because it is mostly wild areas but that was because it is as of yet not well traversed by adventurers.
Also, i wasnt saying yes they will have it, i'm not giving a definitive answer as to when it might happen. I'm just not ruling the possibility out. If you want to, that's your choice, but it doesnt sound like the devs have. Time will tell, I could be wrong. :)
Then that would come well after 3.0's main story arc. Late into patches at best. So definitely not in 3.0 which is what the thread is about. Context. I never said never ever ever. I simply said in the context of 3.0 why would they let us live there? Presumably we've just halted the dragonsong war by the time we finish the 3.0 story and just now got in good with that country. Do you think they will change years of ingrained culture and isolationism over night and just let us move in? Does Square seem like a company that doesn't think about those story implications? So it would take time. Perhaps 3.4 or 3.5 or beyond, but most certainly right during 3.0 would be completely outright.
Alright then captain serious pants. Thank you for setting me straight. I apologize if my optimism has offended the thread gods. Please accept this dead mouse as a peace offering.

Of course they could MAKE it work, but square has never been a company that ignores lore and story telling for the sake of gameplay. I mean honestly look at PvP and those wonderful GC limits they still refuse to remove despite the fact it would likely revitalize pvp. It doesn't matter what they CAN do. What matters is what they WILL do. What they are willing to do is stick to the lore. So you should really only expect things to match the lore, and as I pointed out it would make zero sense in the lore to add housing here at launch. None at all.
Considering how its looking very likely that Ishgard's government and entire system of belief is being set up for a pretty big fall, I'd not make too many assumptions about how the lore is going to work out.
Going to quote myself from earlier for this answer.
The point still stands even with your context. Regardless if the government crashes do you really thing they will be like "despite all our government issues, the lack of leadership, and total internet anarchy why don't we compound issues and let tons of immigrants in at the same time! We've got plenty of time to deal with both issues." I don't.
Never said there wasn't a single home. I said they wouldn't let us live there. Once again. Context. Obviously people live there in places presumably called homes.
Yes, you are probably right, I don't think any one is arguing that there will not be housing in heavensward at the launch of 3.0. SE has clearly said this. But myself and I think a few others were saying they might add it in through a later patch through the 3.X series. Once again, context.
After reading the OP i dont know if they were even referring to strictly housing within the heavensward areas or that they were indicating the launch of 3.0. you seem to assume a lot from three sentences.
To quote myself for further clarification (since you seemed to cherry pick in your initial comment directed at me) this is what i said.
Yeah, if they do add Ishgardian housing it'll probably be in later patches after 3.0.
However, I wouldn't be too surprised to see them open a housing area in Mor Dhona, given how large Revenant's Toll has grown. Maybe that whole upper area past Rowena's cafe and stuff.
You also need to understand that Ishgard has only been shut off to outsiders for twenty years (and even that appears to be more of a security measure than a cultural matter). They kept mostly to themselves for about a thousand years before that, sure, but they're not as isolationist as you seem to believe.
I believe lore dev's gave as to why we won't be able to have housing in Ishgard, is because the area is too dangerous, with the Dragon War going on. Yoshi said something along the lines of, "Why would you want to live in an area, where a dragon could destroy your home at anytime?"
Think they will have housing in Mor Dhona, get up and that bridge and you starts to wonder ... why these new buildings and whats that thing on the other cliff I cant get to yet?
Besides, a certain NPC said they would love to see Mor Dhona florish ... and no housing to be in Ishgard, thats a que for housing in Mor Dhona imo. And housing around Gold Saucer would work pretty well too. 2 location choices for players who wants apartments! ( and with balcony for garden please! ;) )
