Bard Gear & Best Materia

I recently bought a HQ Kirimu Coat, but I'm unsure if I should put Dex IV in its second slot or try getting another Crit IV for that.

According to this site, Dexterity takes priority over Critical. http://www.ffxivguild.com/ff14-arr-a...ation-materia/

However I see many are going the route with the Kirimu Coat to try maxing it on the Crit as much as they can. Would more Crit or Dex IV Materia benefit me more?

Crit IV Materia are going for 400k-500k on my server and the price of Dex IV is 15k-20k.

Cost effective melds: CRIT IV, CRIT IV, CRIT III x 3.
Alternative: CRIT IV, DET IV, CRIT III x 2, DET II

When you consider the fact that a Crit IV costs 50 times as much as a Dex IV on my server, the alternative given is much more cost effective than the meld labeled as such. Would Crit IV, Dex IV, IV, IV, IV be a better choice?

It won't take DEX, HQ is already at the DEX cap.

Seems I got DET and Dexterity confused when reading on the meld limits, but obviously they meant determination. lol. Anyone have any idea how Determination compares to Dexterity in how much attack it gives or that still a complete unknown?

For Bards, DET is their number two Secondary. Crit is actually weighted higher point for point, and stacking Crit gets you approximately 45% more individual points than stacking Det. Win win!

When they lvl sync, do they cap each stat separately for what gear can give at that level? Would adding some possible variety give it better all around use maybe? Currently none of my gear give Piety, so it would be only source if I gave it Piety IV Materia in an extra slot. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

If each stat is maxed for your level during item sync, anyone know up to what level someone can take full advantage of a Materia IV or is the system different completely?

I'm pretty sure materia is disabled when level synced so it won't have any impact at all.

just put crit on it. If you are doing content that is ilvl synced anyways, then it's faceroll and stats are irrelevant. U don't want to ever meld piety either....

I'll never get 5 Materia on it if I'm spending 500k on every low chance gamble. Although if IVs of other stats can be better than putting IIIs of Crit, its an option. I spent 1.3 Million on the HQ Coat, trying to max it with Crit IVs would cost much more than the coat. When odds are less than 15%, there is a higher chance something will meld if I'm willing to fill in other types of Materia on the lower success tries.

For the first 3 Materia, I'll make sure they're all Crit IV. However as the odds get lower I won't be able to afford trying to meld it much if I'm not willing to try anything and only trying the most expensive materia. Do you think it would be better off with only IV materia, but with some variety, rather than lower lvl Crit? Or is Level III Crit better than Materia IV Accuracy/Determination/Skill Speed/Piety? Rosenbogen doesn't have accuracy on it, so some accuracy on it could make up for that.

This. Hoping and praying the ct3 chest is a crit/acc combo or det/acc combo.

There is about zero chance for any Crystal tower gear to be better than any crafted gear or Dreadwyrm gear. Crystal Tower gear are meant as placeholders or for glamour purposes only.

It's going to be Acc/Skill Speed - you heard it here first.

Comparing the kirimu coat to a ct3 chest with good stats, I consider the slight decrease of damage and the slight increase in vit to be ok. I didn't say it was gonna be BIS or anything. Can also save money while I wait for dw chest by not having another crafted piece.

Got a theory that ct/tome/coil gears all have different stats, though not too bothered to prove myself on that. So based on that the ct chest should be crit/det, acc,det or crit,det. Since both ct AND coil chests have sksp, I don't think it will have sksp. Useless speculation is useless anyways, lets hope CT saves us :D

Yeah I'm expecting wod to have something usable as well. Especially since st had some usable pieces as well.

As you know, each left side item has vitality, primary stat (dex for us), and two secondary stats (which can be Acc, Crit, Det or SS). Each secondary has different weight: 1 "strong" (I will call it Sec1), and "weak" (I will call it Sec2).

There is logic alright but not in the way you defined it. The logic is that all crystal tower gear is inferior to first coil, second coil and we can assume to be the same case with Final coil gear. Brd chest drops from T13 and if you can get a chest that is better than Dreadwyrm in a crystal tower raid (ie on day one some lucky brd will get the chest drop), then there wouldnt be any point for you to do T13. To prevent this, no crystal tower gear has been better then any coil gear. And it is no different this time around.

So its pretty safe to say that Dreadwyrm > WoD chest. And knowing that Kirimu > Dreadwyrm, the same would apply Kirimu > WoD chest

I am so happy I got those dreadwyrm pants that one week! I'm a poor soul and been using my auroral chest because it's been better than my crafted one.

I hope I will be the only bard in the alliance when the chest drop lol

it seems with my current accuracy i cant wear it!. i need to give up as much crit from other gear to gain the accuracy needed to wear the vest. :(

SS: 0.161

I calculated the differences between T13 body and this body.
Then I have this:

5+11*0.32+34*0.161-44*0.339=-0.922

This new body in term of Dex (weighted) is better than the T13 one by a bit less than 1 point...

So more or less 1 Dex VS 7 Vit.

So this body is nice for poor people (rich will prefer the pentamelded i110) who did not have T13 body yet or who prefer 1 Dex againts 7 Vit.

You must not forget about the mdef increment as well. The mdef + vitality would be a welcome in T13. Plus stat weights it has shown that the Demon has the total score, albeit you have to deal with the missing 41 accuracy (which in turn you have to sacrifice something else and your combined stat weights would drop, a tiny little).

The above set is based on the view that you will want to use the highest IL gear possible with the least compromise - juggling between stat weights and other benefits such as Vitality and Magic Defense.

If strictly by stat weights then the current 2.4 combination (crafted head, crafted chest, ironworks hand, ironworks belt, dreadwyrm pants, ironworks boots) will still reign superior.

But if you want to seek a middle ground of stuffs, you can try:
Kirimu Tricone + Demon Chest + Dreadwyrm Hands + Ironworks Sash for 535 acc

TBH the amount of difference in DEX converted stat weight, it amounts to just a racial stat difference. For myself I prefer a more balanced approach so I would take a little more p/mdef and vitality along the way.

I will still keep my crafted head and chest for now.

I don't have neither the dread belt nor the gloves to wear the new wod vest. Too much loss of accuracy. :(

It looks still good however for people who dont want to bother with melding kirimu.

I mean it's a good alternative.
