Dear Devs -
Can we get any info on how pvp is changing in 2.5? how will Roulette work? What are the new frontline rules? is the Frontlines ilvl being raised?
At this point I think they just forgot about PvP.
I hope it'll be something fun, but the pessimistic side of me thinks it'll just be something minor like a change in the lvls you have to be for gear, or allowing materia to be used.
I think the information is in the patch note. Just wait few days for it.
Yea, not many informations around yet, so we have to wait for patch notes.
PvP-Roulette will include both Frontlines, but not Wolfs Den. Thats for sure
My guess besides that:
ilvl of frontlines will not be increased. I think they will stick to 80 on old and new frontlines
ilvl100 Animal gear will probably be no longer rank restricted to allow newer players to catch up on pvp endgame.
Rank 46-50 will be added aswell with new ilvl120 gear
Capture the flag is the new frontlines mode
Stuff I'd like to see but won't happen
- Cross server friends list & queuing (I've heard WOW has this)
- Queue with those in a different GC and take the party leader's GC
- More stats at the end of the match (points by GC and alliance from kills, drones, node, outposts)
- New frontlines rule like capture the flag or something
What I think is more likely
- Increase PvP rank to 50
- i120 PvP gear (although I'm not sure they'll do this...)
- "New frontlines rule" is 8v8v8 maps with separate queue for pre-mades
- Various nerfs/buffs for different jobs
Do we even know for sure if were getting an update in 2.5? Will this update be on the 20th? It feels likeSE is leaving this entire pvp community in the dark. I check every time they release we info and its all pve :(
The way they changed morale for pvp gear it now adds directly to the ilvl. i110 PvP gear has 20 morale (25 for the wep), so the ilvl scales to 130/135, the same as current end-game pve gear. Looking at the i100 pvp gear, it has 10-15 morale and scales to i110/115, the same ilvl as the end-game pve gear that existed when that pvp gear came out.
I don't think they're upping the ilvl on PVE gear in 2.5 and if they released new PvP armor it would probably be i120 and with morale scale to higher than i130/135, meaning it would be higher than current end-game PVE armor (at least in PvP areas). As this is not something they have ever done, that makes me lean towards thinking they will not release new PvP armor this patch... But I hope I'm wrong!
As discussed in the Letter from the Producer LIVE, we will be releasing a new mode for Frontline that introduces new rules and features in Patch 2.5, as well as a daily roulette.
With Patch 2.5 right around the corner (Less than a week! Hype!), we don’t want to give too much away, just know that PvP is still very much on the dev. team’s radar.
Hope there's an easy way for someone who wants to PvP focus a character to get into Frontlines. My character is nearing 50 and I'm worried it's going to take a whole lot of investment just to get him ready to enter into PvP because everyone's over-geared and Wolfs Den may not have enough to players playing.
Oh.... please don't combine pvp roulette with regular roulette.
Just wondering how long it'll take to gear a brand new 50 to get to i80. Want to dedicate a character I have to it specifically and kinda anxious to get going. If I recall correctly, Morale raises armor to a certain ilvl above the listed now. Hopefully I can use lower-level PVP to get the tier-up equipment and just focus on getting a quick Relic until I can start pushing for more PvP centric gear.
Might seem a bit lazy, but I'm on limited time and regularly raid on top of it all. So, I'm trying to trim down my workload without harming my playmates.
PvE gear in some slots is better then PvP gear for some stuff anyways. Also as someone on Balmung there are a few frontline/pvp shells. I believe the Adders one is the Mad Adders? I am sure one of them will pipe up. Adders have a low population so they get a lot of premades in.
Crafted i90s aren't cheap, and limited time translates into limited gil income. What Gil I make naturally comes from the dungeon and raiding I do and little else. (Cashing in Seals for materials and selling them auction on top of gil rewards, and even that's split between that and slowly getting upgrades for Relic so I don't have to stop what I'm doing just for the Bombard Cores.)
This PvP character would be entirely focused on PvP, which means what outside currency he obtains contributes directly back into the Gil resources shared between them. I get to have fun, and a bit of return on my time investment.
Two reasons, Characterization and Simplicity.
First Reason: I'm a roleplayer. It goes against "Lin's" Mentality to focus her efforts on conflict between the nations as she fought for unity between those nations. Also, Cartneau is a traumatic place for her, she would not willingly return unless there was true and immediate danger there. That's enough for me to feel 'awkward' walking in out of character with her.
Second Reason: I play on hybrid keyboard/gamepad. Easier just to have a character designed specifically for PVP than to constantly remap skills, as I have limited slots to designate skills to.
Gear doesn't have a huge impact in frontlines as long as you're using i80+. In about 15-20 matches of frontlines you can get enough wolf marks for a full set of i70 pvp gear, which translates to i80 after you add in the +10 morale that comes with it.
Some people may get upset as you're playing with lower gear while you gear up though, so that's something to consider. Helps if you go in with a full group as they won't care then (that's how i got my cousin geared up in a few hours recently).
I'm hoping Roulette will assist me with that, but if I have to stick to Sub-50 PVPs in Wolf's Den to help get the currency I need to grab the i70 PvP Set, which was my first goal. Weapon Wise, getting a base Relic will be easy enough and my FC will more than be willing to help that far.
They'll likely use my character as a Tome pinata, which may help as well. Just charting my course for all of this. It's my namesake, Hyrist, that's going to be PvP oriented (as a Paladin).
Morale will be your friend here.
As far as I remember, 1 morale = 1 gear lvl, which counts to your average and final gear level. (Correct if wrong please, its been a while.)
Low level pvp gear is very cheap, and you will probably get a few in 5-10 games.
Its respectful that you are considering yourself a burden to your team if you are ungeared, but honestly it wont matter. (in wolfden would be a different story).
There are many other players on the field that count towards the win/loss, based on many variables other than gear.
Remember you have dedicated healers (hopefully), which makes being under geared negligible.
Grit your teeth for the greater good, and rack up the marks in frontlines for morale gear. Anything over ilvl80 is pointless.
It is highly unlikely that you alone would be the sole result for winning or losing, based on gear alone. If someone were to blame you personally, they have no idea about the wider picture or all the mechanics/tactics.
The transition from pve to pvp is super simple, its not like there are any aimed skill shots or alternate builds in comparison to pve. Just pop in, and treat it almost like pve (for learning the match tactics). You may have to jig a few skills around, but these are very obvious things like using shield bash often to stun lock ect.
I love to see new people, as this is the backbone of keeping pvp alive/active.
More the merrier I say, undergeared or not, its better than waiting in the god awful queues.
Good to hear a positive opinion.
As far as looking for PvP shells on Balmung. I won't be in the Adders for my PvP Character, but the Maelstrom specifically, that's where the majority of the people in our Free Company who PvP will be Allied with.
You really don't need to do sub-50 PVP, it will take you an astronomical amount longer to gain wolves mark from lvl 30/40 wolves den + Queue time. There is also great gear in the level 80 dungeons, espeially if you are DRG, the chest has the most Crit. dedicating a Character may not e the wisest cause sometimes PVE gear is BIS
I've no problems unlocking dungeons that will likely house the ilvl80 gear pieces I'll want. But I'll be on Paladin, not Dragoon. It may not seem the wisest course in the short run, but in the long run I'll be far happier having the PvP and PvE focuses on separate characters.
At this point it seems my charted course is to Get Relic/Unlock Dungeons, Push PvP to get an ilvl70 PVP set use the iLvl70 set to go into ilvl70 dungeons (dropping ilvl 80 gear) Gear up based on what is available there and what's available through PvP. Ultimate goal however is the high-end PvP sets, cause reasons.
Wow the new Frontlines updates look amazing...

I'm looking forward to it
A new PvP instance!!! :D
new pvp objective? Teleporters, special monsters that grant special bonuses, combo bonuses for consecutive kills? PvP specific limit breaks for every character? *Drools*
Finally some info! :)
So its 8v8v8 or 24v24v24 3 team Deathmatch?
Did they forget the healers, again ? The killing spree feature is only for DPS, like the new achievements.
Yay, new frontlines! Yay, still sync to 80!
Really. What's the use? We got great PvP gear but we can't seem to use it for proper fights.
Would it be so hard to have a dedicated frontlines instance that require 100+ morale to enter so everyone could fight with decent gear with materias and actually enjoy the hard work they put into getting said gear?
Plus, that would probly be a better experience for those who actually want to PvP because they enjoy it, not to be forced to play with glamours farmers that don't give a sh*t about what they doing as long as they get the gear they want ?
I must say this is greatly disappointing imho.
Love the new Frontlines but dissapointed also in respect to Item Sync, Morale and PVP Gears in general not being recognized as it should be
Since the current Frontlines is being renamed to secured I'd have hope the changes were as such
Frontlines (Secure): Open to All, Item Sync to 80
Frontlines (Slaughter): Min Req: PVP Rank 25+, Either no Item Sync or Sync to 110 with PVP Materia being usable. Bonus Incentives for Solds/Potetics/Marks/EXP for wearing set amounts of PVP Gear.
As of current patch notes, the new Frontlines is just going to be what the current FL is and I'd imagine for the first few week, the Secure Version (CTF) will not have as many people qued as the new one.
