Do I really need relic weapon for the maint story line!?

I need your guidance for relic weapons. I am at item level 48-50 something. I need it54 to beat the moogle king. How do I get relic weapons to advance in the main scenario quest? I am a summoner.

I saw some suggestion on other websites but I want to know your opinion. Also to let the devs my opinion about this. ;)

I believe Auriana in Mor Dhona will have a quest for you that unlocks the process of getting a Relic weapon. It's actually quite easy, and the relic alone gets you to i70 for the weapon. Upgrading it to Zenith (very easy and cheap to do) takes that ilvl to 90.

No, Relic quest chain is the side quests. Having it or not won't affect your story quest completion in any way.

If you have never started a relic quest before, you need to go to Vesper Bay north west of Horizon. There will be a man outside of the building where the scions stay that will give you a relic reborn quest for the job you on that is 50 (if you want to do summoner make sure not to be on sch)

Relic weapons are unnecessary, but I recommend running at least the first part for your main class. It's an experience, and up to atma it's not too hard

You don't have to do it, no. It is a fairly easy quest though and it's requirements largely overlap with things that you will be doing anyway. It's a decent starter weapon. It's i80 when you get it and quickly/ easily upgraded to i90. I'd probably complete it and then work on getting the i100/110 weapon from soldiery tomes/ unidentified allagan tomestones/ sands of time.

Yeah, running TITAN hard mode is a piece of cake when you're ilvl 50. Are you guys listening to yourselves? I ran Ifrit and Garuda Hard at ilvl 54 (with a Giantsgall Trident HC) and got my ass handed to me, but thanks to a good party, got credit for them. Won't even think of touching Titan hard until I'm ilvl 65-70. Unless I'm in a carry party.

Didn't know you had to solo him. Almost every trial roulette is a carry party. Nobody cares, good luck finding a titan group where everyone isn't overgeared.

I think you need to beat Titan HM to unlock Coil, so you might as well do the relic quest while you're at it. :)

Opinions on relics are very divided. We have this conversation in my FC often. Half thinks they are a waste of time, the other half (myself included) loves getting relics. It's really your own personal choice since there are equivalents out there if you are able to get into higher lvl content. However, unlike the dropped weapons, relics become customizable at a certain stage and you can choose where to put your secondary stats which allows you to better maximize your dps. Both options have pros and cons.

Be warned, it is a grind fest though. Not so bad since they eased up on atma but still grindy. For myself I find it nothing compared to getting relics/empy/mythics in xi and enjoy it for the most part. Let your own play style be the factor that lets you decide whether or not to make them, because like I said, ppl are very divided on the subject and are very adamant for the most part about the side they take. The nice thing about smn being your first, is when you do get to the atma and alexandrite parts, any fate and any alexandrite map can be easily solo'd by even a lower ilvl smn if you know how to utilize your abilities.

You can't even enter Titan HM at i50.

@OP - the relic quest isn't required but the base relic is a really solid starter weapon. Even if you choose not to advance it, it gives you a solid footing to start from earning tomes and such to get the i110 weapon with tomes.

Completely up to you.

Personal take: A Zenith-level relic for each class you have at 50 is pretty doable -- almost effortless compared to 2.0 or 2.1. If you want to carry any of them further, pick one, and only one. If the grind becomes too much of a pain in the ass, drop it and don't spare it a second thought. There are other ways to get good weapons. If you have no problem with the grind, keep rollin'.

If you've maxed out one weapon and aren't burnt out on it, then you should consider doing others, but never before.

In short: Yes, you should get your relic on each and every job

Why? It's easy. You need to do 5 trials, 1 dungeon and kill some 30 or so mobs and spent a bit of soldiery. And you will have a i80 relic and with a bit more soldiery an i90 relic zenith.

The i80 relic also comes with an achievemnt and a title and getting all of them has another achievement and title.

They are easy to get and a good start. You will need 2 materia and 1 crafted item to meld it to for the progression the rest is all quest based. And it takes roughly an hour to two to finish.

You can get the relic just for the experience as some people said. Your other options will be primal weapons, or weapons purchaseable by tomes.

YOU WANT to do relic as it is the only way to unlock chimera and hydra and without those u NEVER can do trial roulette which is a 5-15 min investment for soldiery/poetics :P

Also the titles and achieves are worth it for sure ^^

Moreover, relic quest is considered as a job quest. Who knows, maybe it will be needed to unlock the next job quests in Heavensward ^^'. So, as everyone says, there is no reason, now, not to do it.

You need to clear Ifrit HM, Garuda HM, and Titan HM to unlock first Coil. Which all happen to be the requirements for making your i80 base Relic.

Whether or not you want to upgrade it further is up to you, but you really should make it if you have nothing better.

I'd say go ahead and get your relic weapon. Its a weapon you can always have and you can upgrade it at whatever pace you want. "Its better to have something then nothing". Also, at this point, you'll get carried thru the relic reborn quest, with it being a joke now. Go get your relic.

To have finished the job quests is a requirement to start the relict quest, but the relict quest is not part of the jobquests. It is a sidequest.

But isn't the Relic mandatory for the 2.1 questline? I distinctly remember reading that you needed the Zenith for a main story quest.

To get your relic you need to beat Titan Hard Mode which requires an ilvl of 57.

So should you worry about getting the relic for Thornmarch / Moggle Mog? No. Go to your grand company and buy the ilvl 55 weapon. You're going to want to use that to get through the primals anyway.

Should you get your relic before trying the other post-50 dungeons that require an ilvl of 60+? Yes. You can run Garuda, Ifrit, Thornmarch, and Titan to get ilvl 60, 70, 75, or 80 weapons but the relic is the best way to get an ilvl 90+ weapon.

Once you've gotten your relic up to 90 it's up to you if you want to continue it. Right now it is easier to buy the ilvl 100 soldiery weapon and upgrade it to 110 than it is to get your relic up to 110. Buying the soldiery weapon is 1300 soldiery and a drop from Syrcus Tower/Second Coil. Getting the relic from 90 to 100 needs 9 books at 500 soldiery each=4500 soldiery. But currently getting your relic from 110 to 125 is arguably easier than buying the ilvl 120 poetics weapon and upgrading it to 125 since poetics has a weekly cap and you need a drop from Final Coil. By the time the expansion lands this summer the poetics weapon will probably be as "easy" to get as the soldiery weapon is now.

This is all true. Getting a Zenith Weapon is the fastest way to get ready for ilvl60+ dungeons however the primal weapons can also help out a lot :)

The main issue for new 50's is getting up to item level to get into dungeons to get tomes to get better gear.

You do not need the relic for the storyline but getting up to i60 (leviathan) i65 (ramuh) i70 (syrcus tower) i80 (shiva) is a little more difficult now with the i90 gear being stuck in the new dungeons you cant access until i80.

With an i90 zenith relic (complete chimera, hydra, ifrit, garuda, titan, amdapor keep and a handful of soldiery) You will be well on your way to getting to i80 to finish the complete main storyline up to 2.4.

I would recommend getting the relic and upgrading it to zenith as doing the trials will give you an idea of the skill (dodging etc..) you are going to require to progress further past the primals in the story.

Nowadays, most DF groups can clear it with 2 wipes at most and little to no communication. It's easy because there's always people overgeared for it.

I just don't recommend running Titan Hard 40+ times just to get the weapon drop like some people may have... :)

As someone above said you need to beat Titan HM to get your Relic weapon or at least I did for WAR back in summer, you just start Relic Reborn questline at lv50 (after end credits/2.0).
Then fight the Primals HM versions with your inprogress weapon equiped - after that I'm not sure got lazy and just relied on i90/100 for awhile lol, just started Atma/Zodiacked questline this week.
Anyway the Primals HM (picked up from Walking Sands I think) are easier then you think with good gear equiped (depends on your iLevel, I was crazy powerful), just run them with some FC friends and it'll be fine, thats what I did.

EDIT: OP just looked at your character on Lodestone, Armour/Weapon looks good for Ifrit HM BUT you could with iLv50+ Accessories as the current ones are low level. Get tomes, HM dungeon drop, raid gear if you can or hit the Markets until you get better gear from raids (drops, tome ect lol).
