[To the Developers] Please give us the option to let other players see our head turn.

I am aware that SE made the "Head turn to camera" feature invisible to other players so that they cannot tell you are trying to take a screenshot and grief you, but as a roleplayer, I'd like the ability to turn my character's head in other ways (stare down, look up, look over my shoulder) and let the other players see it. It adds a lot of personality to the character.

I'm not saying to remove the option to make this invisible to other players, but I'd like the alternative to make it visible, a toggable option in Character Configuration would be very nice.

Problem is even this tiny feature would tax certain systems. Clientside it's fine, but...

That sounds like a ridiculous reason to not have head-to-camera turning visible to other players. Was head-turn-photo-op-griefing/photo-bombing really that much of an issue at some point, or is it just an excuse to keep this feature client-side?

Anyway, I too would like to be able to share positional information on my character's head, if the griefing excuse is really the only reason it isn't currently being shared.

It was probably to keep the feature clientside, since the data that would have to be transmitted would be each and every player in a given area's target. Which would be...lag inducing

We'll never get every changepose for every mood we want to express in-game, and there's so many emotional states that can be showed simply by tilting our head in a certain way, I feel changing how this feature works (or giving us the option to change it) would save in the end a lot of time and character data space that the developers would maybe try to add to give us /changeposes to look defeated, abashed, annoyed, distracted, absent, etc. All stuff that can be emoted simply with a small head turn.

I don't know if they'd ever do it but I definitely support the idea. Body language is a very valuable way to tell your story.

Heck I would settle for persistent facial expressions/emotes before having this feature, but hey, why not both :p

Never paid attention to others, but I can see my friends' heads turn just fine. At least when they target something.

That's a different feature altogether and only helps if you actually have something to target that is 1) in the right position and 2) not moving around to make you look like a bobble head.

That the OP is talking about is where you move your camera into the position you want your character to face and then hit the key that makes them face that way without otherwise moving, as demonstrated in the above demonstrated images. In the picture where the character is looking downwards there is nothing down there for them to target to make them look down, it can only be achieved with the face camera button. That function can't be seen by others however.

That is why I'm asking not for a full change, but for the option to change. Players that do not RP would probably not care to make their head turn be displayed, so they can keep that Off. Roleplayers would probably want to see them though, and cope with the lag. I'd prefer to have to tweak my settings differently for the sake of seeing head turns (for example I've already removed all battle effects off, to not see Holy spammers and the like). Also you should keep in mind that at any given time there's very few people using the Face Camera button, while there's many more simply targeting things to make their heads turn, and those already display on your screen. So I don't think there'd be any overload of data.

All my AFK-coolness factor just dropped 50%.

I've always thought that I'd LOVE this feature! This would not only be great for RP, but also for screenshot taking with friends. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

That is kind of a loose argument. It's like saying it's unfair that you have to see players going around as races you don't like, or on mounts you don't like, etc. Head turned in certain directions are not bothersome and eye-hurting like a spam of spells (for which there are filters). Not quite a constructive argument.

races and mounts are fixed objects that just solely be there, they dont have any actions other then just being there, glamours requires an action to take place thats of direct player choosing and is specifically designed as a post creation process that can change the atmosphere of the game, same with people actions, these are more direct social actions and have function in its implementation.

I rather if players social interactions was kept in a closed space for each other only, not forcibly for others to see or off by default. Options are nice, but the option for off must be there.

We can already see both a character's head and eyes turned toward whatever that character currently has as its target. Allowing the results of the pause-button tracking to be observed as well is along the very same lines.

I'm all for options, but what you're asking for isn't reasonable. To not want to see the direction a character's head is facing.. you might as well be asking for the option to ignore all stance options available to each avatar, or any of its emote animations. Perhaps you feel you should have the option to not display whether or not my character is standing with his hands on his hips, or with his arms crossed in front of his chest, or even present at all?

That's just not the level of tuning out that should be available in a massively multiplayer environment. They're all just poses, and they serve the important purpose of making sure our characters don't all look like emotionless stiffs.

If you want the option of ignoring the pose my character is in, I want the option of approving any screenshots you might take that happen to show my character in them before they're allowed on the internet. :p How my character is seen by the public should be up to me, after all, and I'm just taking your request to the next level.

In all seriousness, can you provide a good reason why you wouldn't want to see someone's character looking up into the sky (rather than straight ahead), for example? Beyond simply not caring about what everyone else is doing, how does it actually harm you? I'm just wondering what I may be missing here in your complaint.

It's kinda annoying at times. Especially when I forget others can't see it ^^;
But for AFK-ing and general posing, I just soft-target something in the general direction I want to look, since soft-targeting won't show up when people click you to see what you're looking at :p
(Soft-targeting done on mouse/keyboard by using numpad left/right to hop between possible targets. You get a small circle in the center of the target, but not the circle around its base/feet.)
You can even have a normal hard target on something, and then look away to something else by soft-targeting, and to others clicking you, your hard target will still be listed as your target :3
(Note that any emotes etc will be performed on your soft-target, not hard-target.)

Everyone would look the same in their ugly end-game raiding gear. :(
I'd rather see naked tanks and bikini catgirls and skirt-wearing guys anytime over that.
And before you go into "breaking the immersion", there are quite a LOT of interesting outfits people can make with the stuff their role is "supposed" to wear...

It's more that it's unnecessary overhead for something a minority would use in general play.

As it stands, the game already sends information about what folks in the vicinity are targeting, so having your client display their characters looking at their target is free of cost for the server. Having to broadcast "character X's head is angled at this yaw/pitch/roll" to everyone in the local area is a whole other thing.

You know, he could have copied this post and pasted it and it would have worked all the same. What we're asking for is the "on" option, which is not there. The "off" option is ALREADY THERE, which is why in the title it says "add the option". You're asking for something that is already there, something that I did not ask to remove. And yet you're firmly against the option to be able to display our face-camera direction. I think you are being more selfish than anyone in this argument, to be honest.

Yeah, based on these 'reasons,' I would seriously recommend looking into playing single-player games. MMOs might not be for you.
