Main Quest requiring Duty Finder.

When the main quest-line asks that i should use the Duty Finder to enter a specific dungeon, that's where i give up. Because

1) Duty Finder takes more than 30 min (it sometimes stretches to more than an hour) and that is IF you get to enter/commence entrance to the specific dungeon.

2) What is worse is that there aren't as many tanks and healers as there are DPS, and i hope im wrong about this.

3) Being a new player myself, I dont know if im going about it correctly or not, and that is why im asking for help. I'm finding it very hard to continue playing because of this issue. Joining a Free Company did nothing to help.

As a Final Fantasy lover, i find this very unfortunate especially for a wonderful online game that stands out different from the rest of the MMO's out there. Gameplay, Style, even the players are alot kinder than many of the other MMO's i've played. I do hope Square-Enix finds a way to solve this.

I usually see DF times of around 20 minutes or so, but occasionally 30, on DPS classes, but that's with the advantage of mostly playing during peak hours. If you're on during off-peak hours it can stretch to an hour or more at times.

The trick to making that bearable is to have plenty of other things to do in the meantime. Find and kill your hunting log targets. Do some FATEs. Find a few sidequests or levequests to do. Do some gathering or crafting. Just make sure that if you're on a different class while waiting, you can disengage quickly from whatever you're doing in order to switch back to the class you queued with as soon as the queue pops.

They've done a fair amount to solve it already. The whole reason Duty Roulette was added to the game was to make sure that there would still be plenty of people to fill out the remainder of any group that someone needed for a dungeon or trial. To specifically address the availability differences between roles, the "Adventurer in Need" bonus was added to encourage running Roulette with whichever role there are currently the fewest of (which most often ends up being tank, though it's occasionally healer). For the higher end-game content, they added some tank achievements with cool mount rewards to encourage more people to tank there. At least the first two of those have helped significantly. (I'm not so sure whether the tank achievements have or not, as I don't do endgame raids.)

1) In the Duty Finder, check the specific dungeon you want to do for a 100% entrence.

2) There tend to me more DPS then Tanks/Healers in most MMOs. Because people are to lazy to tank/heal and/or Like to do phat dmg and/or its just easier to do. (my personal point of view on why)

3) You could use the Party Finder and look for people there. I met a fresh player who had the same problem. It seemed to me that he got a group together faster through the Party Finder then the Duty Finder. (Also that's how I met him. I helped him through a low lvl dungeon when I saw him looking for people).

I would suggest perhaps using either the party finder or joining a new free company that actively helps its newer members.

Im glad to hear Square Enix actually did something about it, but Duty Roulette doesnt seem much of help if the main-quest asks for a specific dungeon. I'll check a new Free Company to join. Dont use the Roulett. Just check the dungeon you want to do in the list of dungeons under the Roulett. It say you have to use the Duty Finder, not the Duty Roulett.

Edit: Also, check all the languages as it gives you a wider search for players.

One option you might consider is to add either a tank or healer class yourself. Even if you want Dragoon (or any other damage dealer) as your primary job you play through most of the storyline with, if you keep multiple classes/jobs up to the level you're at in the storyline, you can alternate to your tank or healer when the story hits one of these dungeon/trial instances and get a fast queue.

You'd still want to run dungeons a times with your primary DD job as well (for XP, to practice how that class/job works in a group, to be able to "Need" on role-appropriate loot, etc), but if that's just in Roulette and when you have plenty of time for a long queue, you'd be less trapped into needing to wait on a long queue at an inconvenient time before you can continue the story.

Duty Finder is actually always used to *enter* a dungeon, even if you use Party Finder or just talking with your FC-mates to set up a group for it. You can also set up a partial group and then queue in Duty Finder to find you the remainder of the party. Even just a duo of DD+tank or DD+healer can enter as a partial party and have a quicker queue to fill in the extra two members than you see entering as a solo damage dealer and needing DF to match you up with all three of the others.

Oh, if you're setting up a group (full or partial) to enter DF with, you need to set up the party first and then queue. Adding/removing members from your party after you're in the DF queue will knock you out of the queue.

When the main quest asks for a specific dungeon, you want to select just that specific dungeon from the Duty Finder to join it. The reason Roulette helps there is because it will draw in other players using Roulette to fill in the rest of your party. For instance, if you need (or want) to run Brayflox, and queue (solo or with only a partial party) for that specific dungeon, it will pick players doing their Roulette run and decide they're going to get Brayflox in this Roulette because it's the one you specifically need/want. That's quite often where the remaining party members you get grouped with are coming from.

do you check all languages?? i found it improved my wait times considerably only thing im in queue for longer then 15mins for is frontlines... even ST pops after 7mins normally and i always dps lol

I have found this method to be the most productive for me for a couple of my alts I made. I started focusing them on healer, which I've come to really enjoy, and as a result I've gotten them further along in the story.

My understanding of the way Duty Roulette works is that it will Roulette you into a pre-existing reserved instance of a dungeon.

For example, if you have selected to do Sastasha, and I select Duty Roulette - I may end up filling one of the slots in your dungeon instance. When all four slots are filled, then the instance can proceed.


So, you selecting your dungeon determines what people Rouletting will get, until your roster is filled. Of course, this is the case for anyone selecting a predetermined dungeon. If there are no people waiting in a Duty Finder queue for a specific dungeon, then it will randomly create a new instance for the person selecting Duty Roulette, and then Roulette everyone else selecting that into it until the roster is filled.

Basically, select your dungeon in Duty Finder, and your free spots will be filled in. Best to do it around the time that the Roulette resets, which is midnight in Japan - as this is when most hardcore players will do their Roulettes.
