Hardcore Server Idea

Hello Everyone!

Well... What the title says

I used to play Diablo 2 and they had Hardcore servers, Normal servers & before I quit servers that start fresh new every half a year or year (everyone started at lv 0 and no gil in the world etc...).

It would be cool if FF14 had a Hardcore server.
What will change?
- All Mobs even open world mobs are tougher (like ff11)
- leveling is a bit slower.
- gil is harder to come by or the same.
- no Echo buffs etc...
and of course make changes to adjust all this. I know their is tough content now... just saying!

you get the picture.

having both HC and normal servers can cater to a broader audience.
I myself wish FF14 was a little tougher when it come to leveling and mobs. I Loved ff11 for that reason.

anyways... this is just an idea

what do you guys think? what would you like to change?

I doubt that I would move my main, but I would start an alt and give it a go

FFXI is still up and running for your convenience! So is Diablo!

D3 still has hardcore servers. It definitely provides a different type of experience but 99% of the time when I die in such modes, its because of lag, server issues or computer issues, lol and it can be pretty discouraging to try and start all over again.

Here's an idea, go play Diablo 3.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the hate you're getting in this thread. There's nothing wrong with wanting a server that has harder leveling and fight mechanics. I'm really surprised so many people are just dismissing the idea or telling you to play a different game. Such a toxic response.

Interesting, Rather than making other servers to do that though making they can just add things to making the current open world etc tougher.

Would be fun to have a 'one life' type thing like Hardcore on d3 though.

No hate here. Unfortunately this is a pipe dream as this style of game is not set up for a system like this. FFXI the "difficulty" was the systems you played with, not mob behavior or anything to do with the mob. Autoattack whack for 2 min, coordinate one skill with your team, attack. 1.0 was closer to a system like this (1.23 was actually pretty good happy medium) but all that is now gone. I hear some people are running 1.0 servers and that might be your best hope for a "hardcore" server.

Diablo was built with hardcore servers and systems in mind so everything already was there to support it. If you say that FFXIV is built this way then do the extreme coil mode and if you get echo buff, turn it off. Sorry if this sounds like hate, its not. I just dont understand the mind set of "I love this game, if you just changed everything about it to be like X." This kind of idea was floated around since 1.0, its nothing new. I'm terribly sorry but this is not the style of game you are looking for.

And how would you react if your healer decided to be nasty and just let your level 50 chr die in a raid then ditch? These ideas may sound nice in theory but in a game like this, highly impractical.

I would welcome a hardcore server option for FFXIV. I wouldn't make it my main, but I think it would be a really fun challenge. One downside I can see is that everyone would have an elitist type mentality because you would have to in order to survive for long periods of time.

The idea is fine but i bet its gonna be kinda lonely cause if people get to choose beetween the easier road or the harder one to reach the same end they most likely will pick the easier one.

Afterall how many raid groups is it that is dismissing extreme coil cause it dosnt drop better stuff then normal version.

I think its a great idea. I've only played wow vanilla before this mmo (or well ive tried other mmos but never got to endgame) and I think its the best mmo ever. I loved how you could die at lvl 1 if you accidentally pulled 2 mobs, if you were a tank you had to farm on mobs with lower level, there was no echo buff or tokens to get free gear. I would defo make a character on a hardcore server or maybe move my tank character to that server. +1!

Can't you just do pretty much the same things on a normal server?

The only thing you can control is turning off echo. But even then, you can't un nerf coil 1-8. There's no way to make it how it was pre nerf.

Not sure why this is getting so much hate; it's not like you would have to play on that server if you didn't want to. I think it's a pretty nice idea myself. I won't ever change servers and I'm too midcore to survive if I did switch to a hardcore one, but I definitely see a place for it.

To all of you scorning him because, oh-em-gee he mentioned another game!!!!!!!!! QAQ Really??? He likes this game enough to play it, spend time outside of the game thinking about it and posting on its forums, and is requesting a hardcore server. What about any of that suggests he doesn't like playing this game? Yes there was mention of another game that implemented a concept that he thinks would be compatible with this game in some capacity; I'm sure it was mentioned with the understanding that readers would recognize it and then be able to assess for themselves how they thought that concept would work with this game. It's not as though he's suggesting that we change anything essential, it's just a server where things are a bit more ramped up for those who enjoy that sort of challenge. He did not propose that we scrap the overall lore and make it set in some cyber future where everyone is a robot and must play with another person at all times or turn into a zombie and dungeons aren't a thing.

hardcore servers in a game where you can't solo anything if not utterly overgeared is an horrible idea.

Not even counting the fact that you basically can't one-shot anything out of 4 man content in this game.

No. I don't want them wasting even 1 second on re-balancing the game so that this would work. I'd rather they keep pushing forward instead of wasting time catering to a minority. There are plenty of other games that can give you this kind of experience. Go play them.

For extra hardcore fun, delete your character every time you die and re roll!

Sure this is a bit more of a manual way to go but if you really want to play "hardcore" you can do it to yourself, no one is stopping you.

Maybe they can use cash shop money to make the server you are hoping for, they used that money to make an EU datacenter so start buying your slepnir mounts!

Half the fun of doing hard-core stuff is because the game imposes it on you. It's a server where all those things are mandatory. Self imposed rules isn't the same and takes away a lot of the fun factor. Most people who do hardcore servers like doing it for the epeen as well. Nobody can doubt whether or not you did the self imposed things. I'd probably say it's 50-50 for fun factor and epeen.

I think a better course of action for a FFXIV hardcore server would be deleveling/exp loss when dying. Losing your character when you have to rely on 7 other people isn't the best idea.

There wouldn't be a population on it to even support the extra dev time it would take to create two different difficulty levels of every content.

Look at Pharos sirus when it first came out, so many bailed or tried to avoid it anyother way becuase it was slightly harder than the other two dungeons.

As another poster mentioned, Savage coil very very few ran it, not enough to justify adding further savage modes of coil (aka FCoB savage), It's harder but gave the same loot. So majority didn't want the harder modes without added incentive of getting better gear. Same would happen with a "hardcore" server. Majority would be "Why bother? when you can run normal and get the same thing".

It may seem a good idea in your mind, but it woulnd't be justifiable to extend exponentially development time for content for a very small number who would use the server.

They're already doing this on every raid in 3.0 and onwards.

Rather than the D3-hardcore style, I'd prefer a more "classic MMORPG" style. Things like:

Takes much, much longer, like ten times longer to level. No rested bonus, no armoury bonus. This means all the level 10~45 crafted gear now will have a market. Level 1~49 actually matter now. You'd actually seriously consider melding your level 32 gear. Vendor food no longer have experience bonus, but crafted food gets 5% experience bonus.

Near-complete breakdown of aetherite network. The only form of teleportation that works is Return, and each Return will consume a materia (but will have no cooldown). You also may only set your Return point to one of the three starting cities. Chocobo porter network is however much more comprehensive, and you may take a chocobo from any station to any other station.

Death penalty: 15% of the total exp required towards the next level with level downs. No death penalty if you are Raised within 3 minutes; if not, then your body will disappear, and you will revive at your Return point with the death penalty; if you're in a instanced dungeon/raid, then you may revive with death penalties inside the entrance of the instance.

No token gear whatsoever. The current token gear becomes crafted using material from the appropriate iLv raid content (main material) and light party content (secondary material).

And zones scaled up at least twice their current size.

I've taken the liberty to bold the very important word in your post that literally disprove your own point. Raids are not the open world. The hard/normal mode division in raids is not in fact a method to make "normal" content harder. It's their to lower the bar even further to shut up the people who don't give any crap about giving themselves ulcers "playing their best" and just want to experience the story.

Your statement is not at all analogous or for that matter relevant to the point you are responding to.

Everquest 1 is still going, perhaps you should play that instead if you want all that sort of thing.

Unfortunately the problem with specialized servers of any kind boils down to the cost and trouble of maintaining two separate systems. It's easy when all you have to do is turn a flag on or off (like perma-death, or open PvP as classic examples), but when you're creating a whole new set of rules like different game balance and difficulty, it can compound the difficulty in maintaining things over time. Every time they have to add something, they now have to balance it twice (or more).

Though while we're dreaming of different server types, "no duty finder" is kind of something I always wanted. The option to pick a server where the population all knows each other and has more of a community seems like something worth doing to me.

i like the idea but sadly it may be too late. the reson this game actually has nearly a milion subscriptions unlike ffxi is becuse its a fairly easy game casual friendly. apart from the current coil dungen which is not nerfed yet, there is little to almost no challange in this game and this is what the people want, no challange, they wana get their shiny loot and lock out, they dont want to have to put any effort into lvling or getting anything otherwise they will prop leave this game and find an easier game to play.

EQ1 aint the same, hasn't been fora while :S Gear got superboosted for levelling, enough that you can solo open world leevl 50 raid mobs @lvl 50 with a merc. No corpse drops either, and can pretty much solo level VERY fast, especially if you follow the boosted XP zones. I was even soloing planes raid trash to level up XD

In before posts saying easier version "NEEDS NURF TOO HARD!" XD

Albeit they aint making em facewalk easy, there will still be a "challenge" was stated story mode version will be post echo difficulty and people still struggle with echo+ over gearing.Same, i called it!, will happen with story version of the raids, some will still find em too diffivult (or blame everyone else except themselves of course ^_^ ).
