Will buying the Expansion also include the game?

A friend of mine wants to join Final Fantasy because i told him that Dark Knight was being released in the Expansion but said he wouldn't get it if he had to buy the game and the expansion. So since he doesn't have a SE account, I'm asking the question for him.:confused:

With utmost certainty in order to use Dark Knight he would have to buy both the expansion and the game.

Expansions don't generally come with their source. It's just that, an expansion.

There will likely be a bundle for $5-$10 more than the expansion by itself. With FFXI SE has been in the habit of releasing a set that includes the base game and all prior expansions for the cost of the newest expansion about 3-6 months after the newest expansion is released.

I'd imagine he will have to buy the base game, but it will be cheap (and in fact is cheap if you look around and find a sale).

That is what I was wondering also I asked same question in another topic never was answered.

Since people use the free download for PC version and if they bought expansion would it change it to the real game or do you get the game with the expansion.

You can download the game alright, but you'll still need to pay to have the licence key to activate your base game account, before being able to access the expansion content at all.

Tell him to get the game now and start playing to set himself up a little . As it stands Dark Knight would need something levelled to access it even beforehand. Also the game atm can go for as little as €15 which along with the 30 days u get means its effectively €2 to buy ARR now.

While my knowledge of WoW lore is shaky at best (haven't played anything Warcraft-related since Warcraft III), this comparison is weak at best.

The core theme of Dark Knight in Final Fantasy lore is a warrior that harms himself in order to harm his enemies more (Souleater). They typically also use at least some black magic.

WoW's Death Knights are former evil minions on the path to redemption who use powers of undeath.

Only one Dark Knight in FF lore is a former evil minion on the path to redemption (Cecil from FFIV), and no Dark Knight has ever used powers of undeath. Given that all we players are established heroes long before we get the chance to unlock Dark Knight, there will be no "evil minion" background for us.

If you're arguing that Dark Knight is similar to Death Knight in that it's a hyped up job to draw new players into the expansion, there's some truth in that - though anyone who's a Final Fantasy fan was pretty much expecting Dark Knight to show up in some form sooner or later.

There is no possible way for us to know the answer to this. All we can say is that it might have a bundle and it might not, but it will definitely have a stand alone version for those of us who already own the game.

Leon was actually an evil Dark Knight before he joins as your final party member (FF2). I don't know of any Dark Knights that use the black magic ability, if you're saying they use abilities that would normally otherwise be black magic then that makes sense, other than that I haven't played FF11 so if they use black magic there then okay. Actually no. None of the new jobs have any base class and Yoshida said Dark Knight would be available to play out of the gate with the release of Heavensward. Will it eventually need/want cross class abilities from Gladiator and War, most likely.

Do we know this for certain or is this just conjecture at this point based on previous iterations of Dark Knight in the Final Fantasy franchise? As far as I know, the only thing confirmed is that DRKs are (1) a tank (2) uses great swords and (3) has the power of Darkness according to:

I think it would be to their benefit to include the base game in the expansion and make people only have to do one purchase to get everything they need to start the game.
FFXIV 2.0 owes much of its success to its low cost of entry. They would be wise to keep that in mind going forward.
