PvP Duels

Hello people of the forums!

I would love to see SE add in Duels for pvp. It would help build up the player base for pvp by giving them the ability to get better at pvp with friendly duels. Also skilled players that love pvp already would get something out of it too. I my self love to find other skilled people and duel them for hours and i find it fun. At the moment the only way to duel my friend is for him to que in FL and risk being kicked because i am dueling with him.
If SE can add this i would love it to be in a open area if they can so everyone can watch people duel. Other mmos have the duel feature so i think it should be no problem to add it in FFXIV too.

Duels give no rewards like XP , tombs, gill. The idea of it is to let people have friendly 1v1 or not so friendly 1v1s. Its to help people get better at pvp and its so simple to just jump into a 1v1 duel with a friend of some one random then to go into FL or WD and have 1 hour que times and get destroyed and be turned away from pvp after that.

If they do this the EXP would need to be extremely low as some people would just spam a bot or bots and go to town for rank purposes.

No XP from doing this. just for practice at pvp

And yes there will be the "1v1 me bro" people but thats all part of pvp. I love when people say 1v1 me lol

I'm new to FFXIV but I must say although I was aware there is no world PvP, I was very disappointed to discover there were no duels either. SE & FFXIV seem very anti-PvP to me. I understand that it simplifies balancing issues and separates the PvE/endgame content type of MMO from a PvP/skill vs. skill based MMO, but that shouldn't mean that the option is completely removed. (IMO)

Would that I could be given the opportunity to test myself against my peers not only to promote skill and improvement in my understanding of the classes but also to practice outside of an organized group -- something not everyone has at their disposal.

Yeah wish more ppl would show interest, this is definitely a more ideal way to test abilities cd's and strats with alot less hassle.

What I think FFXIV PvP needs:

1v1 Duels.
Tournaments and Leaderboards, in Wolves' Den.
Open World conquest style PvP, regularly scheduled GCvGC content (Adders attacks Maelstrom zone, Maelstrom attacks Flames zone, Flames attacks Adders zone, for example).

What we're getting:

New Frontlines modes...

Yeah I second this. Its rumored that the Manderville Gold Saucer in patch 2.51 may have coliseum battles. The expansion will have even more additions to pvp.

Healers, especially SCH would be pretty much invincible and just whittle you with DoTs.

If Healers were somehow banned, WARs would dominate.

Doesn't really work in this game.

Well its more or less for people to have 1 on 1 just to test how good they will far against other jobs. It in no way needs to be balanced for 1v1s. In other mmos i pvp 1v1s all the time and was the best at the class i was and some classes just played better then what i was and there was no way to win a match but it was still fun to try. All they need in this game for 1v1 is make it so the match ends when your hp hits 1 and thats it. i know i have soloed some healers that are not yet pro level and giving them the 1v1 option to fight good dps will help them to improve there skills. I've faced off with really pro healers and i could not kill them solo (yet) also im a drg btw.

Duels usually aren't meant to be balanced as there will always be counter-classes and such. Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock.

i would love to dual there are a few people i needa beat up in my fc xD

Duels would be nice, but ultimately only as an answer to player requests. It will not be balanced. This is for fooling around and nothing else.

I approve the implementation of a dueling option on a friend player : would be fun while waiting in DF :)

But, I do not approve dueling rewarding players.

I agree! This has been covered in a few threads, but the more, the merrier! Let's get SE's attention on this, there is no reason we should not be able to duel outside any zone classified as a sanctuary if both parties agree to it, and there is no reward other than bragging rights! the skill level of the average pvp'er across the servers would increase, more people would be interested, the list of pros goes on. I hope this happens in xpac at the very latest.

I would love to see duels with configurable level/ilevel sync and morale options, that give no rewards, each player fights till someone hits 1 HP (prevents killing).

Would help with testing different PvP setups and options against various classes without actually having to go into WD/FL and potentially hurting your team's chances of victory just because you wanted to test some kind of obscure setup.

Oh my god BnS 1v1 tournaments were the most rage inducing, or the most satisfying, fun, and intense thing in the world. Absolute PvP greatness. I'm not gonna lie, if it didn't cost about 4000 yen a month (about 40 bucks) then I'd probably play it solely for the PvP.

I only approve if it's setup in Ul'dah, as they have the GLD coliseum for random passer bys and NPCs to gaze into for such purposes. And the lore, gotta honor that lore.

yeah, I want to beat up my friends sometimes. :D

and seeing people fights in towns will be cool.

But in the case of 1v1 most healers tht have a decent amount of pvp knowledge in this game will easily beat any class regardless of skill. Even if the dps gets lb, the healer can just use attunement ( unless they nerf that )
So technically healers r hammers and can take a beating while slowly denting/ smashing the paper, scissor and rock.
Also there would be a lot of name and shame in / shouts if ppl get all cocky with the " 1v1 me bro " and make a friendly non exp 1v1 system into a toxic breeding ground.
Happened to hunts and can happen to this as all they need is a little rub & satisfaction to their ego.
An option to decline or seek pvp requests is a must have as it'd make things more organized.

How are you even gauging this? There's not many opportunities in this game for a 1v1 to happen. I'm kind of curious how you came to this conclusion. Do you have a source for any of this?

Yeah this really needs to be a thing.

Idk if they'll actually ever implement this but they seriously should.
It's something extremely simple that would benefit the PvP aspect of this game a LOT.

Its a duel, you do with friends to kill time.
stop trying to put so much regulation in the game.

Some of the best times in WoW where coming up to random outposts and finding groups dueling.
It made the world feel really alive.
FFXIV could use some alive.

I experimented in WD back when it was only the pvp.
I would let my team die off or tell them to back off while we let the sole survivng enemy try to fight 1v1.
I could just afk and put regen on my self and tank could never phase me. Or a dps who try to do mlg trick shot no scope on me but doesn't matter cuz stoneskin + 1 cure 2 = invincible.
Also forgot if they changed it or not but using attunement and upgrading it to shorter recast time made u a god when it comes to LB dodging.
Where did i get this from? Experience in the " original " pvp that is called wolves den.... Then there's scholars.
Swiftcast summon -> sprint -> dots dots dots-> win.

Anyhow, I could see SE making an effort to make duels balanced. They already nerfed individual skills for pvp like BLM swiftcast.

Duels don't need to be and shouldn't be balanced.

They simply need to be a thing. To exist.
To be implemented.

Don't do any changes to accompany it. Don't make it ilvl sync when you duel. Nothing.

Simply put in the option to right click-challenge to a duel, to anyone with certain zone restrictions (not in main cities-limsa/ul'dah, etc.)

That's it!
