Rules of the thread

In anticipation of version 3 of FFXIV, for every dislike of version 2 you'd like to post you have to post two likes. They can be as big or as small as you'd like.

:( Crafting/Gathering systems discourage specialization, save for desynthesis which is a confusing and unnecessary layer on top of the entire system. :(

:) Frontlines is a ton of a fun :)
:( Materia need an overhaul. Too complicated, too grindy, too unrewarding. Screw that entire system in its current state. :(

:) Graphics are fantastic :)
:) Metric ton of things to do :)
:( Needs a better realized cross-class system, to encourage more choices as to what skills to bring--even if only situationally. :(

:) Mordhona and Thanalan wake up music :)

:) Seeing a really good dps in a dungeon(I don't know what it is, but just watching someone who's really got their dps down is impressive to me--more so than a good healer or tank) :)

:( failing hq at 90-98% :(

:) Carbuncles are just too cute! :)
:) Crafting is an actual game of its own :)
:( Chocobo isn't manageable with a pet bar :(

:( Weird UI restrictions that should have never existed to begin with (not being able to sort inventory when on chocobo is an example) :(

:) I love the character models and how up to date the general graphics are compared to similar MMOs :)

:) Although the story started off slow, I feel like it has developed into a really interesting plot, and I hope that the resolution for 2.0 is interesting. :)

:( I feel like there is very little content for middle of the ground players, just super easy or super difficult content. :(

:) I love being able to be all classes and jobs on a single character :)

:) Boss battle music is nothing short of amazing. :)

:( No mini games to pass the time when you're just not up for actual progression (though 2.5 should solve this) :(

:) Being able to do everything on one character. :)

:) The hype being built from patch to patch. It keeps me interested. :)

:( The Mount Everest-esque uphill climb that is going from 3-star to 4-star crafting. :(

:( Lack of meaning and wonder in the Open World. Its a big pretty backdrop to endless raids and dungeons and instanced content.


:) I enjoy the storyline missions, humor, and synergy between NPCs.
:) I like the challenge of Coil.
:( Glamour/Vanity is unreasonably complicated and restricting for what should be a fun diversion for players. Perhaps take a page from the GW2 System...

:) High/Expert/Etc roulettes are all real nice and balanced. Quite enjoyable.
:) Increasing Weekly Tomes to 450 instead of 300 was a great thing.
:( Low Level roulette doesn't encourage level 50 players to participate enough.. queue times still upward 30 minutes or more for DD.

Extreme Mode & Coil insta-gib mechanics: Too much repetition of early parts of the fight. No ability to help friends struggling with certain mechanics.

Well with the new Coil System you can help your struggling friends, yet you nerf the rewards they get.

Like: I play with the same people I did in 1.0 and they are amazing.

Dislike: This game is not the full game planned by Tanaka back then, well, maybe the Zodiac quests are, but still...

:) They constantly update old items, relieving a fear that they would start at a substandard base and remain there (ARR 2.0 is not awful but many QoL items coming in now is extremely appreciated, the sanding and polishing is appreciated).
:) Besides them salty pirates I love reading the game (team has done a good job capturing an accent, I just don't like to read it lol).
:( Really wanted housing to be a realm with far more feature and customization (seen in a few other MMOs, like Wild Star). Also rather dislike the fixed housing structure, servers that don't need many available have many, and servers that need more (Balmung at least) has few available.

:) Graphics are pretty good, and "FF" like, they are also improving them over time.
:) FF. Chocobos, Moogles, jobs, silly events mixed with a dark story. Moar.
:( Texture pack, do not need today or soon but I'm not excited to hear a dev say textures don't matter- maybe mistranslated or bad wording. Regardless, while lighting is incredibly powerful to making things look real, visible pixels are still visible pixels and ARR has many textures that are visibly low resolution.

:) Crafting and gathering feels unique, at least coming from WoW which was pretty meh.
:) They're changing the game over time. Now I don't mean updates or more content, but actually the game has locations evolving. Its not exclusive to ARR but I really like to see the game evolve, makes actions feel tangible.
:( Zelda-ish Fishing (many srpgs have something similar or better), better than Arche Age fishing game, part of fishing is luck sure but in real life (a bit) and in games there is an element of skill that is entirely lack in ARR (1 to catch, 2 to mooch, now you know how to fish).

:) Maybe this is my bad perception as I payed more attention to SE PR during 1.0 but I feel like SE has made many improvements to their international communication. Still a few times I think they could have had some foresight, but much better than before (again limited examination may be an issue to the compliment). Also, either some things I've wanted were transferred across, someone on the Japanese side wanted it too, or I was just saying things in the works already - at least I feel like there is a "I'll consider it".
:) It is called "Eternal Bonding" so while very analogous to marriage it is not Earth marriage it is Eorzean bonding ritual - I'm glad they were inclusive rather than exclusive.
:( Yes I know we can't solo primal summon, because legitimately lore says thats a terrible terrible idea - but could we at least get some slightly bigger more fierce options as well? Other mmorpgs are not as conservative as ARR, this isn't a "standard" or even similar to previous FF. They're not competitive or nostalgic, I have trouble seeing how this is a desirable quality. I get they cant be too big or detailed for logical reasons (game play, computer systems), and they can't be exactly like SRPG FF games (so big, so temporal, not required), but again other mmorpgs have done more so I ask SE to do the same. WoW or Aion as an off hand example both meet the "has more". Speaking visually of course, distinctly changing mechanics while people like it is a dangerous route.

:) fights where, when learning, everyone has to be on their toes, not just some who carries the rest through (when at ilvl not super outgearing it)

:) A very fun and challenging crafting system!
:) Being able to repair your own gear!
:( The reliance on shards, crystals, and clusters to craft anything...

:) A wonderful story compared to other MMOs!
:) Memorable characters and locales!
:( No lore codex...

:( Gearing up, melding and attempting to synth stuff for master craft books (The amount of gil spent attaining Master Crafter status w/ gear versus the return is grossly disproportionate) :(

:) Fantasia/Character Name Changes :)
:( Grinding 2000 lights for Relic Weapon :(

:) Shiva Song! (Oblivion) :)
:) Cash Shop Items :)
:( Current low level DPS dungeon queue times :(

+Boss fights are generally entertaining and creative.
+Minions fulfill my need to collect cute nonsense.
-Cash shop on top of subscription. Already blocking off some good customization options.

+Updates regularly with content.
+Job wheel means I can be a master of all trades.
-Loss of a lot of beautiful fidelity and atmospheric tone in the ARR update.

+ARR added a lot of necessary variety to the overworld.
+Square has been making efforts to keep the game from just focusing on instanced content. Especially with last years patches.
-Various systems like Materia and Elements getting nerfed and simplified, removing what could have added a lot of depth and complexity to an otherwise by-the-books linear experience.
