I was hoping it would be more snow like Coerthas but my friend said its going to be like plains because they raise chocobos there. Wondering if anythings been said about the environment there?

Ishgard is the city-state within the Coerthas Highlands, not a region. It's that large structure beyond the Gates of Judgement (blocked currently). It will have all the same things as Gridania, Ul'dah, etc at some point.
As far as thematics, I can imagine it will be like Vatican City.
Well, the teasers and concept art released of life behind the Gates of Judgement just show a lot of drab grey stone everywhere and little colour. But we'll see once Heavensward comes.
Yeah good point. So Coerthas is what the area is called and then Ishgard is the city? Its just the "Coerthas Central Highlands" that is snow. Maybe there's other parts that are not snow. I'm still holding out that maybe at least 1 more zone will be snow. ><
Ishgard itself is the castle you can see form a distance and some of it has sort of been shown in videos. The new zones, surrounding Ishgard, likely some of the remaining Coerthas areas as well as some stuff to the northwest are anybody's guess really. Coerthas used to be lush green rolling hills and what not before the Calamity, so some of the other areas may still be like that or covered in snow like the central highlands. I think they'll get into some mountainous terrain in the northwestern areas, and of course we know that some of the new areas will allow for/ require flying to get around.
Hopefully something cool, cause I dislike the 3 current-city states. Maybe we could join there company. Cause I like (Aymeric, Amric?)
Don't forget, the area of Ishgard that we've been shown in most screenshots so far is called Foundation. Ishgard is divided by status and class both in an abstract sense and a literal one, the higher into Ishgard you climb, the more standing people have. It makes sense that the lower areas are devoid of pomp and flourish in favor of the utilitarian stone defenses and cramped lower-class residential areas. The few images we saw of the upper tiers showed more spacious distribution incorporating a lot of gold flourish, green space, and what looked to be classic Germanic architecture (gothic stonework, timber-frame residences).
Free Ala Mhigo!
And Coerthas wasn't snowy in 1.0 the calamity created an eternal winter, It's possible that we will see green lands in a new area in heavensward
The area in this video looks like it could be an area of Coerthas.
I hope we get to walk across the skyway to get to the main gate. And maybe skyfish from the skyway. I hate being able to see the causeways from Limsa Lominsa, but when we zone through, poof! We're on land. We deserve those long causeway/skyway approaches.
All of the new job videos look like they are in Coerthas.
The Machinist one has an aetheryte in the background. Which makes me wonder whether "the foundation" as shown before is actually the lower part of Ishgard turned battlefield. (Of course, it could be a zone aetheryte somewhere else. I'm sure the Ishgardians have more Vigils in those mountains, at least one known one in the western highlands)
I'm not looking too forward to running about Ishagard. I didn't like being in Coerthas very much. I hated the change in music and the people were insufferable to deal with. I imagine Ishgarde will be all that pretentious zealotry x100. I am curious how the story will handle the Au Ra players running about, though. The Ishgardians throw people off of cliffs because they MIGHT be involved with dragons. How will they react to a race with dragon-like features?
This has kinda bugged me since announcement. A nation whom hates dragons merrily allowing what will end up being hundreds of draconic-like beings marauding threw Coerthas in a time of war (And thus a very bad security problem...) Going threw 2.x for new toons may well be jarring with the "Hey dragon-like guy, save us from the dragon menace!" or indeed new players seeing hundreds of Au'Ra running around in a land that supposedly hates them.
Also curious as to how this is handled. We see people hurled off cliff edges for less.
Take a look at this beauty. FFXIV Maps
Well I read somewhere that Ishgard itself will be a seperation between the poor and the rich. Q.Q I'll see where I can get a hold of the info somewhere
It'll be very interesting to see how the Ishgardians react to the Au Ra. I plan on making one, and will love every second of traipsing around their city while they glare at me *insert evil laugh*

Looks like 15th/16th century France with the color sucked out of it.
The links don't work because the site doesn't allow hotlinking, but I assume you meant to link the pictures from this here post.
The 'foundation' level (where the common people apparently are restricted to) looks more like San d'Oria MkII to me - right down to lots of drab grey stone and stuck-up elves. ;)
The rest of the city looks more like Lindblum crossed with Jeuno though. But I guess we'll find out for ourselves soon enough. ;)
Wait how does anyone hate the Coerthas background music???
Anyway since I keep getting northern Skyrim vibes from snowy Coerthas I just like to think that Ishgard will be a lot like a more technology-advanced Whindhelm. That's probably just me though.
