Do you think BLMs will be altered in the near future?

I'm not saying I want this, I'm just wondering. If the new spells/abilities don't change up our formula, our class would get quite boring rather swiftly.

Also not saying we need to be changed. It just would be cool to see us do something other than Fire > Blizzard > Thunder > repeat. (not literal).

Don't think any of the classes will be changed fundamentally. they are mostly balanced right now and with 3 new jobs coming and +10 levels for the old ones it's hard enough to keep that balance. not the best time to alter anything.

isnt theres something on Fan Fest about BLM will have stances and other stuff ?

I've read it somewhere in this forum with photos and translation but i cant remember which thread

That was a proposal from a fan/dev? that Yoshi-P didn't seem very keen on. It was not official as far as future development of the class.

I can imagine with time when other jobs are buffed, in order to keep BLM in line without too much change they might introduce sun/moon ice/fire etc debuffs much like naels from t9. Whcih may then force BLMs to adopt SS in order to keep the debuff up. I dunno its just my own speculation.

Maybe, you'll see some changes come 3.0.

But your formula would change due to the 10 new levels, regardless.

i would love to see a complete rework where elemental strengths and weaknesses were taken into account but i realize how completely unrealistic that is. I remember hearing something about how the devs didn't want situational gear like from FFXI to control this elemental thing but i think its a cop out because they wouldn't be forced to make a fire/ice/thunder staff or corresponding gear that needed to be swapped out for maximum effectiveness. (we can't even swap gear out mid battle anyways so not sure why that was even a thought on dev's minds) Create the system first and then make gear for it... not base your system off ffxi and assume that is the way you need to do it.

The only thing wrong with the Black Mage is there is no elemental wheel but that's more of a limitation of MMORPGS rather then the job itself.

What does irritate me, is how they speak of removing some gear as being necessary when in all reality, most items are decisively better than another. (Augmented pants vs Dreadwyrm for BLMs)/

It is hard to imagine any new skills they add dramatically causing the rotation to change. I would guess the whole fire & ice swapping thing to always be main focus. But I think every job can become dull if you play it near exclusively, so just taking advantage of the armory system to switch roles often will keep things from getting too stale.

It's like with gear, even if the BLM game changes completely once the mathheads come out and start finding what is the best way to play said job then you have no real alternatives if you want to be decent.

WoW Moonkins probably. They have this thing where they change gradually over 45 seconds or whatever between sun and moon phases and have spells that work differently depending on the phase. Or something close to that, anyway. Never played Druid post vanilla.

Astral and Umbral, those words loosely apply to sun and moon.

Unfortunately, the elemental wheel is just not feasible for MMORPG's as it has the tendency to either cause a class to be massively OP or really, really bad. Anyone remember diablo 2 if you went fire sorceress and then got completely screwed when you ran into fire immune mobs........ oh my lol.

Anywho, I would like to see BLM mana resource management reworked, considering it really doesnt have any management as long as you can count. Their effectiveness during long fights does not drop off or become challenging like every other class does, which leaves them with the same rotation FOREVER.

What I'd really like to see more of with BLM is a mobility rework. As fights get increasingly unforgiving with regards to dodging various this and thats, the BLM suffers accordingly (not to mention "stack the whole squad" mechanics such as Titan EX, which by default force you to be a melee DPS ...) - Scathe doesn't cut the mustard and you are all too often compelled to prioritise avoidance to the point of losing your spell (and DPS). SMN are in this boat too, but worst case for them is a dot drops off (which may not even mean anything if it is restored before the next server tick) while BLM have to worry about the short duration of Astral Fire stacks.

Could be I need to get better at my class perhaps (I probably do, I'm sure I'm not the top BLM in the realm ...) but part of it is definitely the class itself; I am reading reports that top Final Coil statics are actually going 3 melee + BRD and benching the caster DPS roles, and I can only guess the mobility conundrum is a top reason.

Good luck dealing with T11 adds with 3 melee & a BRD

All jobs are going to change with 3.0, but how much is hard to say at this point. Maybe we'll get some useful cross skills beyond ranging/quelling, maybe fire will cost more than 1/4 of our max MP, maybe there will be a transpose II that changes the rotation. It's all speculation at this point.

Every serious Coil group has at least one caster, most of the time Black Mage. If you have trouble with moving you need to be a better Black Mage, it's that simple.

I just want BLM to have Raise.

U took me wrong dude, I didn't say it can't be done.. Of course it was done, with geared melees & BRD. See what my target audience said, "I am reading reports...", means he didn't do that by himself. My point is, not anyone can do that, especially those who judge a thing by just reading some reports.

And also, if u play BLM and keep whining about moving a lot reducing your DPS, then reroll a BRD, u have no talent at all playing BLM master race :D

dodging in any fight as blm is easy once you learn the content, you know exactly how far you need to move and more importantly when you really need to move and when not.

on top of that you learn when you can squeeze spells in so your dps doesn't suffer.

this is a big part of the class in harder content and part the reason I will not change from blm for raids as I like the challenge of keeping dps up whilst still having to dodge or interact with the mechanics. not that I don't like standing there and fire off spells to murder everything quickly.
