Will it ever be possible to have tanks, and melee jobs that fall under disciples of magic?
While ninja does use ninjistu, which is a form of magic. It still falls under Disciple of war.

Red Mage would probably be our only option in that regard... Possibly Runic Knight?
Unless they pull from a Tactics game or something where theres like 90 jobs I dont know about.
Someone said that dancer was a dps/support in ffxi and crushed my dreams, cuz i didn't know it.
I'd like dancer as as magic tank, They should have dances like Enmity [put your dance here], Regen [dance], Defense [dance], and such, like the bards songs. Of course you'd have to stand on the place for them to work and there should be a lot of other skils too. But it would be cool... :ยด-(
Red Mage as a melee damage dealer. Works out pretty well. Only issue is that it also makes a lot of sense as a tank, but I think that they could just have Mystic Knight or some other variant as a tank. It's also possible (though doubtful with Astrologian being shown) that Dark Knight is a DoM Tank.
And Dancer seems like the best choice for a melee healer of sorts, if they ever do one that is.
Is DRK going to be a DoW? I could see it being a DoM.
I think it could go either way at this point. I'm hoping it's DoM, primarily because I only play those, but it could be DoW.
A disciple of magic tank I don't exactly expect.
A disciple of magic melee DPS? Sure. As mentioned Red Mage - or even whatever they adapt Blue Mage into could fit in this (Given that most monster skills are user-based AoEs it could actually make sense).
Realistically I can see it having issues (Melee characters usually have to move more than mages, cutting out cast time; a melee caster would be locked out of autoattacking; and a few others), but it could be made to work.
I play healers, but yeah, currently I've only got four jobs overall, five once I get Astrologian. Kind of a disappointingly small number of DoM total. DoW has quite a bit more.
As for Dark Knight and not being able to wear chain/plate mail, depending on how exactly it works out they could just make the existing Tank armor able to be equipped by Dark Knights, or perhaps a special section of armor just for Dark Knights (as well as any future DoM tanks if we get any). It would seem a tad redundant, but it may be necessary depending on how the job is done. Not like we haven't had mages in FF that use armor after all.
Red Mage could be a melee DoM by relying on buffs to cast spells, and then going into melee to perform melee attacks/skills, probably using MP to perform things like Flame Strike or whatever you want to call them. It could also give them some utility if they can cast said spells on other party members. Just means they'd need to break away to cast the spells, though they might not even need to do that.
I could see a melee DoW DPS. Like RDM for example. Currently all melee skills are instant cast right? Why not do the same for RDM? Have all RDM skills be instant spells. That sounds broke but really what is the difference in Bootshine for 150 Potency and 60 TP versus Flame Strike for 150 Potency and 60 MP (obviously adjusted for MP totals). There isn't really any difference other than MP Pool and regeneration rates. RDM would have to have a higher MP Pool to make up for MPs overall slower regeneration rate. You end up with a DPS class with a longer total sustain but a more crushing DPS drop when you reach the end of its resource pool. You also have built in Utility in that RDM could have access to things such as Cure on a melee class or even maybe a party wide regen.
As an example you could consider the DRG Chaos Thrust combo.
Instead of:
Impulse Drive (180 Potency) -> Disembowel (220 Potency, 10% Piercing Debuff) -> Chaos Thrust (200 Potency + 30 Potency, 20 sec)
You have:
Flame Strike (180 Potency) -> Pierce (220 Potency, 10% Elemental Debuff) -> Holy Slash (200 Potency + Party wide regen @ 30 Potency, 20 sec)
The point is that the rotation could be very similar to a standard melee DPS. It has built in utility in its standard rotation and makes up for the DPS drop by doing something like buffing BLM to increase total party DPS and survivability. If you give the RDM lower over all melee damage from its auto-attacks it could fill a role similar to that of BRD: Lower/lowest DPS of the group but its presence overall improves the parties performance & survivability and it doesn't suffer from movement mechanics as much as other DPS but still more than a BRD does. Spells like Flame Strike could be ranged where Pierce would be melee range. It adds versatility, sustainability, but on the flip side suffers from over all lower total DPS.
Obviously that's just spit balling and does not enjoy the benefit of an entire Dev team and months of testing for balancing purposes but if you are wondering if it could be possible to do a Melee DPS, I absolutely believe so and the above example is why I think it can be done.
