So how do you feel about the arrival for the Battle of Ishagrd where we may have a War between the Grand Companies against Ishgard?
...why would Ishgard wage war against the rest of Eorzea? Not to mention it's one city state against 3 others, not exactly fair odds. The title is probably referring to the war on dragons.
Still doubt it's going to be as simple as that. Knowing how things have been so far, we're going to be thrown into the thick of things to stop the bad stuff at the last minute. But at either rate, I rather not have conclusions being jumped when the info is scarce.
We aren't going to jump from requesting their aid, to doing the dragons a favor and slaughtering them. There is still much to explore of Ascian involvement in Ishgard. It will be interesting to find out what this 2.5 content is about, but it should be seen as a bridge to the expansion and not something so conclusive.
For all we know, the Ascians could be tricking the Ishgardians to make it easier for the dragons to win and that's how we get this mess in the first place. We already know they're involved with Iceheart/Shiva somehow.
Well first we must learn the truth about Ishgard.
Remember Iceheart did say there is a dark secret the current ruler of Ishgard is hiding and the truth lies in the "Lake".
A dark secret she found out about that started her on the path to aim for the end of the Dragon War.
Point is, none of that even remotely implies we would go to war with Ishgard, not to mention that would be inconsistent with the teaser trailers we've been shown of Heavensward. Ascian involvement could be limited to playing double agent and destroying both Ishgardian and Dravanian forces. We simply don't have enough (or any) evidence to jump to any sort of conclusion.
I foresee a lot of gather/fetch quests :>
Ishgard has many factions. We were just introduced to a fairly photogenic new Capltain who could be at odds with the Archbishop(who we know is controlled by Ascians). Its not a huge leap to imagine a civil war breaking out and helping to drive out conservative faction that was backed by the Ascians. This then justifies the opening up of Ishgard in 3.0
The scale of Ascian involvement is for now unknown, the only time the Ascians have been in the Ishgard story arc is that one cutscene with the archbishop. Ishgard is fighting one war, they could not fight the other city states as well. I would think the Ascians are more corrupting the archbishop so he can't command, think something similar to Grima Wormtounge in LotR, poisoning the mind of the king so Saruman can just walk through Rohan. I think that would be more the Ascians motivation.
With their ruler unable to command, Ishgard decides to put aside their xenophobia, and reaches out to the city states to aid them in their war on Dravania. Then knowing that the Warrior of Light is helping Ishgard the Ascians poisoning the archbishop fight us, knowing we are a real threat to their plans, once the Ascians are defeated the archbishop is free to focus on the war against Dravania, this time with the city state's help, roll on 3.0.
Pretty sure we could all be lured to their side if the promise to improve RNG.
I'm confused. 2.5 seems to describe what is about to happen to Ul'dah considering the entire governing body is about to collaspe. Was there any news about Ishgard?
I believe Ul'dah will be Part 1 of the storyline.
2.5 Main Scenario is being split into a 2 Part Update storyline so we're getting Part 1 first and in a month or two months we may get Part 2 Battle of Ishgard then FF14Heavensward.
I'm guessing 2.5 Main Scenario was too big to be put into 1 update so they had to split it into 2 part.
'The Battle of Ishgard' was implied to be more of a pre-expansion world event much like every other MMO out there does. My best guess is that the Heavensward trailer was the Battle of Ishgard and we'll be defending Ishgard from a Dravanian invasion in the wake of Midgardsormr's resurrection.
I expect we'll remove the Ascian influence in Ishgard prior to that. Remember there's a secret story trial that they refused to reveal which, based on the final part of Louisoix's prophecy, would be Lahabrea in his new host body. The current story arc will most likely conclude with us finally defeating our first Ascian.
The Battle of Ishgard is more of a prelude to the expansion.
