This game is becoming unplayable.

I could understand it for ONE DAY, but since one week I have this problem and my connection is ok. So please tell me if you're having problems with the servers.

2 patch update caused me to dc non stop 90k error, i am annoyed se don't even bother to address the issue no wonder people hacking them easy. I never had problem connecting to the game but been more than a week for me i dc 4-20+ times a day 5-10min.

patches don't cause DC's or 90k's
Bad internet connections, bad internet routes, bad network configurations or modems causes 90k's.
DDOS Congestions cause 90k and lobby errors
Patches don't.
This thread always comes up after a patch, its never the patch - most often the issues on the route your isp chooses to take to the servers: (Many US ISP's are causing these issues by refusing to expand links to third party peering/content networks unless paid to do so). -

Well, what can I say? Seems SE absolutly doesn't care for players experiencing problems trying to play the game they pay for. I'm not whining, it's a fact. I've been having lag/freeze problem for the whole time since ninja patch had been released. I sent a ticket - no answer, but before chat guy told me, that my computer maybe was too shitty to play this god-like game. But my PC is new, my connection is fast FTTx.. No problems in other games, 60 fps almost everywhere on ultra-options. And now these constant 90k/2002. In yesterday's expert I got a whole set of lag/freeze/90k/3102/2002. Unbearable..
I love Final Fantasy game-series, but in current state I cannot enjoy the game - it's a struggle versus bugs and lags. The worst thing - SE won't care for us.. Q_Q -

Traffic is heavier in densely populated areas like downtown NYC, LA, or Chicago than you are likely to find in most areas. And guess where most of our traffic gets thrust through? It is very much like taking a drive across country where you may run into a heavy traffic jam. Could be because of an accident, construction, foul weather, lowered speed limits, or simply just too many people crammed into too few lanes. The same things happen across the internet...some transit/peering segments are simply overly congested regularly.Quote:

thanx for the simple explanation Raist, but why is the game lagging so much with all the 90k errors etc only these last 2 weeks?, before that they were extremely rare for me. and why are other internet activities smooth whereas only ffxiv seems to be affected.
does this mean all ffxiv related info travels on a different path to everything else on the net? is there another way to ease this lag etc without pushing isp support (frankly because they are so poor, and im not getting anywhere with them) -

Notice the differences in the middle of the routes. I get paired with a different routing partner to get me to the AT&T network segments hosting their servers. Also note, that I am going through the same region on the way to FFXIV in Canada as I do to get to Wow in New Jersey, but the pathing is considerably different as well: XIV goes Atlanta, DC, Chicago, New York and WoW went to Atlanta, bounced a few hops before hitting DC, then went straight to New York. There is a protocol specifically for determining the best-effort delivery for routing you to your destination. Depending on how often the routes are analyzed and metrics adjusted, they may not be detecting the congestion spikes and you can get stuck with a bad route.Code:C:\Windows\System32>tracert 63.240.104.93

It's like routing through traffic on a long trip. You may pick a known good route based on experience with the trip you are planning, but bad weather, accidents, or some special event can cause unexpected traffic delays or jams and you need to adjust on the fly. IF no one gives you a heads up so you can adjust your route, you get stuck in traffic and arrive late---possibly even missing a scheduled appointment---and everything thing that was planned to happen after your arrival may now be delayed, postponed or flat out missed because you weren't where you were expected to be at the expected time. The same thing can happen with your packets on the internet.
The internet is constantly fluctuating it's traffic patterns. Look at the patterns with these tools from Akamai:

Tons of things affect it minute by minute--solar flare activity, weather, increased usage patterns, power outages for unforeseen reasons, failing hardware, electro-mechanical interference from nearby devices in a not-so-well planned implementation, attacks on someone's server that is overloading a node.... The list can go on and on, and it can render a connection intermittently good and bad at the drop of a hat anywhere along your route--so every one of those hops is a potential point of failure. And I have short routes... by default, you can have as many as 60 hops between client and server. On average it's only one or two dozen, but it can technically go all they way to 63 hops until TTL kills a session. And you can have a problem at any one of those hops along the way, for a myriad of reasons. -

Ok now, why then game lags at prime time only (just FF of all my MMOs)? Besides, sometimes world is full.. I would say the problem is on SE side. One can do as many tracing as he like, but - it won't change a thing for me. I live in Russia, and SWTOR, TERA (I play them on NA servers) do not lag at all any time I want to play them. So once again - I think problem is on SE side.

Basically, there is an ebb and flow for traffic flow and the pattern varies from region to region. Currently, Akamai's general is tracking overall usage up 25% over the norm. The UK shows up as up 11% while New York is only up 2% and Southern California is up 4%. Later in the day, this may balance out and then this evening it may completely flip. It is up and down all the time. Primetime for one region can by down time for another.Quote:

Go and plan some trips overseas and compare departure and arrival times amongst different airlines and such---some will take longer and/or be prone to more/longer layovers based on how their system is routing you. You may find you have options in that routing and if you are willing to pay more, you may reduce those delays and such according to how much you are willing to pay for your tickets. The same principle can be applied to your ISP's routing of your packets. The problem is, in a nutshell, that they are not ponying up the resources to minimize the delays. It is up to us as their paying consumers to urge them to do something about it... surely those increases to our rates should amount to some level of improvements to quality of service, right? -

oh, and EA's SWTOR-NA is in California...at least that's where the GEO Location data was pointing to for the IP's I found posted. (just as an aside--Southern California routinely has users of various services reporting in with lag issues, and SWTOR happens to be one of them, so that game suffers from the same issues for many while others (like you) apparently do not. Just an interesting thought to ponder in this debate). They also have their own ASN and peer directly with some of the big dogs--Verizon and Level3 among others. So, that's an apples to oranges comparison there. Tera's data is a bit more elusive, EA's SWTOR was just a quicker dig is all. The point is, you are using services hosted in a completely different area and on completely different networks, and subject to completely different routing policies. Ormuco peers with 4 companies, 3 provide connectivity to the US via 7 corridors. The 4th partner provides a handful of international corridors. We have considerably fewer paths to get there and back to Montreal than to just about any other company hosting data within the US. And there in lies part of the problem--when just one corridor goes south, a LOT of people suffer. Two go bonkers, and it puts a real hurting on the player base. The ISP's need to be on their game tracking the congestion and compensating for it by whatever means at their disposal--whether that means assigning accounts to different gateways, splitting nodes, adjusting metrics... there is a list of things they CAN do to help out, but unless someone is pressuring them to take action, they likely won't. They haven't for nearly two decades unless we held their feet to the fire.

You may also see inflated latency numbers. You can ignore any error messages you receive after contacting our servers as they do not indicate a problem with your internet connection. To identify our servers, look for the following suffixes: attens.net, att.net, alter.net, telia.net.
Sometimes we may need additional information diagnose problems. If requested, obtain specific system files or run a pathping on your connection.

I checked my connection: Ping 24 and Download 14MB so I guess it's not a connection problem. Anyway tomorrow I will call my internet provider for more information.
I'm having this problem since more or less one week and I can't play. I pay to play this game so I just don't get why I should not complain about this issues. I NEVER had problems like this before but now it's just unplayable.
I don't see why I should login and say to my static I'll go with them if I can't keep my game connection for more then 10 minutes. -

I'm start to getting tired. I have too much lag and I cant play. Every single skill/spell come late and I cant Heal/DPS well. We couldnt do Final Coil of Bahamut Turn 1 as well just for people have 90k etc.
This is unbelieveble. Repair this servers.. we are paying anyway. I dont mind if you are attacked by hackers or what .. I just want to play well because I'm paying and your job is to let us have a good service.
And I want back my 2-3 days lost for lagging .

Some update info. I resetted my router, which haven't helped a bit ofc, and began to wonder what could I do to take an upper hand on those lags and 90k. And here's what I've done - I set up DNS as following:
- preferable - as my router IP
- secondary - 8.8.8.8 (which is known to be Google's DNS-server IP)
After that I ran some dungeons, stood some time in Revenant's Tall, and so far it seems to be OK. Routing problem after all? Almighty Google saves the day?
I hope this will help me and many others who battle their ways through the fields of lags.
