XI had one if I recall. I'd be scared to see how much time I've invested in this game though.
Oh yes, I'd be scared too since my playtime on FFXI was like over 800 days.
I wouldn't mind something like this though

Didn't they (and some mmorpg) not include it due to people becoming depressed and maybe killing themselves after seeing the time they spent in the game? Especially in japan
Oh god. I want to know. But I don't want to know.
It's like being asked if you'd like to know exactly when you're going to die.
Steam records hours, knowing how much I've played doesn't depress me, just let's me know my money was well spent since I'm obviously enjoying myself.
I'd love to see this. They had it in XI. I like looking at it from a financial aspect...cheap entertainment budget. If you play 100 hours in a month it only cost you $0.13/hour. =)
They can put this and also make some rewards with Achievements lol
I would love to know my playtime since beta.
The development team is looking into adding a total play time function, but first they will need to see if it is technically possible. As soon as we know more, we will update everyone.
God please no, just no, we dont want to know how many hours people have spent afk....
I play this with Steam so I already have a time.

... oh
Considering you have to have this in the first place for the "New Adventurer" Status to be removed from a player.... I've seen people level 45 with it on, I've seen people who only have one class that's up to level 12 with it off. You manually can't turn it off either, it'll come back when you change areas or go into duty if it can still be switched to.
You guys don't want to know how much of your life you have spent in game. I do. I'm curious about it. I'm over 365 days in XI >.> that is a lot of time.
I have this game in Steam but as non-steam application so it does not show my playtime. But I guess I have around 1100 or so. :))
The moment you enjoyed wasting your time was not a waste of time so.. I enjoyed every hour I spent playing this game. :D
I would actually like to know this too
+1
365 Days in FFXI was a lot? Damn I might need to rethink my FFXI time, over the course of about 9 years playing it I racked up over 1300 days if my memory is correct, considering I was unemployed for about a total of 5 years (at least) while playing it, a good majority of my time was actually spent playing, not afk.
As far implementing this, they had it in FFXI and if memory serves me correctly, in the later parts of FFXIV 1.0, though I could be wrong on that one. Regardless though, I don't see how they would have a problem implementing this unless they're talking about having a problem determining the total playtime of players characters from the launch of ARR up until its implementation. Though even with the wording given, it sounds like two entirely different issues to me. For the record, it was as easy as typing /playtime or /playlog and you'd get a system type message displaying your total playtime from character creation until that point in days, hours, minutes, seconds (in FFXI it was this way.)
I would like to be able to see but only after requesting it from a GM. I remember another game that I played where they did it like that. That was it remained somewhat "hidden" so you don't have to see if you don't want to.
considering that XI had the feature for what seemed like forever, My fiancee played it long before I had and said it was there as long as he played it.... Why would it be technically difficult?
Personally, I think we should have a tally on character selection with TOTAL playtime across all characters. Then when you log into a character, you can see total for character maybe with a class/job most time: example On selection__total playtime 56days 6hours___ On character Ahmira Soulrage ___48 days 17h, 48% Arcanist___ maybe by /playtime for that character and /tplaytime for total playtime cumulative.
It might be the case that all of these stats have not been recorded at all. In the case of the new player status there is a very real chance that once the time is up for the status to drop that it stops counting all together since there is nothing currently in game requiring it to continue beyond that. This is all I could think of off the top of my head, ma'am. Please have a wonderful day~
will it count my time in 1.0? probably not though...
if you have steam ver it tell you
this is my time + PS4 time 500h+

Ideally the /played counter wouldn't include any time spent AFK, because from I've seen some characters spend more time standing around AFK than actually playing. Kind of a useless stat for them, otherwise. ;)
What do you mean? Of course it's technically possible. It's dead simple in fact. It could have been coded in little more than the time it took to write that post, not including compiling of course. It wouldn't work retroactively for existing characters, at least not with any of the ways I know how to do it, but it would be trivial to implement for new characters, even by someone as incompetent at programming as I am. If you spent half the time coding that you do "looking into" things you'd get orders of magnitude more done. Sometimes I wonder what's going on in game developers' brains. Their thought processes usually seem completely irrational. Granted, I'm used to working with loosely typed high level languages, but even assuming C++ or whatever takes triple the time to accomplish the same thing, the only acceptable answer to "Can we see how long we've played?" is "Already done. It'll be available next patch.".
