personally i would not switch if i were you. You will find that the EU servers have massive language barriers. take into consideration that the player base is all mix and doesn't stick to one language. I myself came from Eu Ragnarok and i would recommend that server to you if you are serious, but prepare yourself for the language barrier.
I believe Eu RAGNAROK to be thee best server for an EU player Btw
Pro's
:Active PF for end-game
:high player base
Con's
:No events
:Many different language (Many players wont talk in party chat because they don't understand you)
:French people (I'm not kidding here, prepare yourself for them)
I played on Ragnarok for about a 10 months and i play quite a bit. btw, It's also the official EU server.
Either Ragnarok (Legacy server) or Odin. I don't think there is any time of the day that you can create new characters on Ragnarok. For Odin, you need to wait till late night early morning before being able to (at least during week end). Moogle is the 3rd one to 'open up' new character creation, usually a lol bit before Odin does so.
If you go by XIVSoul website, not sure if it has been updated (the front page says it has, not sure if the data itself has) but if you go by who got the Magitek Mount (since everyone gets it automatically after cleaning the main quest) or looking at the Company Chocobo:
http://xivsoul.com/world/Ragnarok/mounts 28,536 Chocobo / 15,936 Magitek
http://xivsoul.com/world/Odin/mounts 31,798 Chocobo / 14,014 Magitek
http://xivsoul.com/world/Moogle/mounts 27,406 Chocobo / 13,377 (<- So L33T)
http://xivsoul.com/world/Phoenix/mounts 30,916 Chocobo / 11,869
http://xivsoul.com/world/Cerberus/mounts 27,945 Chocobo / 11,867
http://xivsoul.com/world/Lich/mounts 22,313 Chocobo / 7,454
http://xivsoul.com/world/Zodiark/mounts 3,353 Chocobo / 1,140
World wide it's 1,181,656 Company Chocobo & 605,323 Magitek Armor Mounts. (<- Makes me question wether the site is actualized at all and/or what's the current state of population? Rising?)
By the way, "EU" Servers are located in the same location as NA DataCenters... In Canada, so expect 70-150 ms latency. But most people here play on EU timezone though
About that so-called language barrier, at least half people I run into speak English. Well, those that do speak. That's only 30% of the playerbase at most.
According to this, that would be Phoenix, which is also the most populated server period.
XiV soul is highly inaccurate and should not be used. And op knows that the server are in canada for now, but he is switching because EU are getting servers in EU for 3.0. He is switching to EU for the same reason i switched off of EU.
Hope i could have been help. Good luck with your choice!
Thanks for the responses.
Is there a general knowledge of which server might have the largest EN speaking Community?
(obviously don't mind if there are people who can not, but if there is one known to have more ENG speaking players that would be better.)
Can't tell from the forum sections since 90% of the threads are in english.
Shiva and Odin are very big ones, but the german comunity is strong there ;).
Certainly not Moogle; it somehow became the unofficial French server. It's still about half English, but all the FC adverts are in French (and rarely something else).
I'm in EU but I'm staying on my lovely multicultural Excalibur, as I only keep hearing horror stories about EU servers from people who flee from there >.>;;;
For most ENG , go odin (i've been on all but shiva, but i hear shiva is the unofficial german server).
For best pugs, go moogle (as others said in this thread, its much french, so very french)
The other servers are a little quiet, but phoenix and cerberus are ok for english speakers.
Sounding like Odin might be the place I choose.
On Ragnarok you even get to see player queues, unlike on Odin or Phoenix (I moved from Phoenix in January '14).
Ragnarok EU, this is server is always packed alot of players playing in the morning and late nights. I remember playing on both Odin and Moogle, back in the summer and when I tried out Ragnarok, the difference was so obvious, I changed servers instantly.
Not saying both of those servers have lower or inactive population, but to me as a newcomer it sure felt like that.
French ppl on Ragnarok are not bad, French that are prepair de speak another language (english) are going on Ragnarok.
French that want to speak only French are going on Moggle.
You'll rarelly see a French that cant speak English on Ragnarok, even if I think, there must be some anyway.
On Ragnarok we have a lot of awesome Lalafell, the master race, and a lot of fat chocobos.
Odin is okay if you want somewhere populated for hunt/casual/midcore/crafts content but it's definitely not the best server when it comes to clearing contents unless you sell your soul to those bigshot FCs or take time forming a good static because PF here has high failure rate despite those no sol/farm in the description. (At least from my perspective)
Your decision is entirely up to you but maybe you should make an alt character on the servers to check out first before deciding on transfer.
Just say "Omelette du fromage". It works. Really.
No, seriously, please avoid such comment. This is ridiculous... It's not because you got bad experiences with french guys that means they all suck.
Every time I saw "no french" in PF on Ragnarok, I was writing a report. Stop xenophobia please. I already got very bad experiences with German players, but never wrote "no German" in my PF.
If you are afraid of non english spoken guys, just write "english spoken only", and that's all.
If you consider all french players have bad mentality-suck-whatever, please consider again, or change server (what I did, but not for this reason).
ps: of course, je suis francais...
I play on Moogle, and yes there are a lot of French players. It's not the majority, probably something like an 70/30 split or roughly along those lines. It's not a problem though, as a large number of French people can also speak English perfectly well. Infact, most of my current static happen to be French, and they all speak perfect English.
Don't let nationalities decide where you want to play. Create a character on every world and see where you like the most.
Phoenix does have 5-20 people queue at occasions currently, i believe the server is doing quite well. You'll find the occasional FC recruiting in french / german / italian / other, but mostly it is multicultural and english-speaking. I don't have any experience on other servers but seems to me it's really a great server, afaik.
if you are thinking of going to Ragnarok
you should make a character there and check the market (:
Well cerberus is a decent boiling pot of various nationalities and languages but I'd say most stuff happens in english with some german and some french as well. You will also get a spanish person here and there and then others in varying amounts.
As for PF it's not dull but you certainly won't have multiple pages of parties to scroll through in PF. There are quite times where there won't be a single party on there and there are highly active times where maybe 2-3 pages of parties will be looking for things.
You can defend french players as much as you like, but it's not going to change the facts of what it's like on Ragnarok. MANY, but not all, are unteachable, arrogant, and constantly bring your party down. This didn't happen to me or my friends on a weekly/monthly basis, this was daily. You would see party finders with "NO FR" in the title, more commonly than you would think.
So don't tell me what is and isn't ridiculous. In this case it is anything but ridiculous.
Im french and on Ragnarok, playing with other french players every day.
We are working on T12 atm and i guess its not too bad for a poor unskilled french noob!
I can see you got nerfed T8 down recently, keep going and dont forget: some french players are indeed worst than you but the fact is: many of them on Ragnarok are better skilled than you...
French are noobs, German are kid always mad, Japanese are all pro gamer, Spanish are lazy, Romanian gonna try to steal your gils, British are hypocrite, Greek lie, Belgian are alcholic, Americans arrogeant, Chinese not stop farmer... Stop with this plz, it's retarded.
Well said.Quote:

You can see myself, I did T9 the 1st/8, but I'm French. :D
The problem is : When you see 10-15 good French players, you dont remind them.
When you see 1-2 really really bad French players, you remind them becoz they where so bad that it got on your nerves, but there is as many bad French then German, or English, trust me, I saw them all in DF.
I said MANY but not all remember that. And just FYI just because someone is on t-11 and I'm not doesn't mean that the said player is more skilled than I. it just means that they have focused on content that I have not. I have a level 20 chocobo, it was world third. I was not going for world third but it turned out that way. Does this now make the the third best player in the world at FINAL FANTASY XIV??
Yeah, two and half french parties are surely doing their job. So sad you can't see them on DF.
Being unable to learn one international language shows average mental level.
When people are talking about french ruining the mood, they are talking only about those ones, with client language set to F, and E unticked. Same could be said about J only or D only.
I'll create a party in party finder " I hate everyone, let me play this MMORPG alone " then.
I have my legacy character on Ragnarok. I'll check that out as well.
You guys are confusing! >_>
(i'll probably go the create a char on every server route.)
I guess it all depends on what you're used to. However, playing on Odin myself it's most certainly one of the most packed servers I've been on in an MMO throughout the past decade. And with that, there's plenty of players to get content done. I really wouldn't need anything more crowded, especially not if that'd mean running into possible queues as BunnyChain points out. Very sporadically queues are there on Odin already as well. And that's more than enough for me :p.
There are good players and there are bad players. If you stick to one server you are likely to start seeing the pattern and avoid the bad ones. Doesn't matter the language or anything else. I've had various players in my parties and some of them were good some were bad some were just crap. Some were actually willing to listen and improve themselves while others ragequit. Some would keep trying even with no progress while others would progress a bit in all that time. And even the bad players can surprise you at times(and I have experienced all of the above).
Welcome to the boiling pot that is the internet/an MMO.
