2006 All Over Again

Since the end of the DDOS attacks in mid-November I have noticed a large uptick in RMT activity across the board, especially in Ad Spam. For those of you who can remember that far back this is reminiscent of what happened to FFXI in 2006. That game also suffered a large scale DDOS attack after which the RMT ran rampant in the game for about 2 years before SE was able to clamp down on them. Are we looking at the same thing here?

Only time will tell.

Will lol once they drop that ban hammer on buyer/sellers all at once. Still probably have a year or so before that though.

It would be disappointing if it takes that long again. Back then I got the feeling it wasn't high priority.

Best way to get them out of your hair (because reporting them to SE doesn't work because they misinterpret you reporting them as endorsing them and you will get kicked out of the forums for 10 days (BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO ME!!!)) is to set your search info to "Busy". You won't get any tells from your friends but you'll keep the ad spammers out of your hair.

Happens in other games as well, not just this game.

Holiday season, game was on sale at a steep discount last week (new unprotected accounts to nab and spam with), etc.

That's like suggesting "sell your car" as a way to fix a flat tire.

The heaviest RMT activity I remember in XI was fall-Christmas of 2005.

I remember that, when in Bismarck they had us all stand in the towns and I looked in my Linkshell and seen everyones leaders from each shell not from my own shell but others.

Didn't they cut a region off after a while I forget.

Best glitch in FFXI was when people dropped out of the alliance but you could still see them talking.

We helped these people get their freeze scroll in E.Necro from the ghost and we dropped the alliance after, they were talking a lot of crap about us and we was like yeah that's awesome after we helped you and they go Holy crap we are sooo sorry.

I bet they were like omg we now look like idiots lol
