Aetherial Manipulation should be more like Shukuchi

I've always been baffled by Aetherial Manipulation. You're pretty unlikely to use it even when you could use it to any effect, since you'd have to identify who you wanted to teleport to before targeting and casting on them. In that time frame, you probably could have just run over to where you need to be. I'm guessing the thinking was you could use this skill to dash over to the PLD so they could Cover you? There's not really any scenarios where the PLD is so far away that you need to do that, though...

Why not change Aetherial Manipulation to act more like Shukuchi? At least then it would get more use, as you could plot out your own destination. I mean, if ninjas can do it, I don't see why wizards can't.

I'm willing to bet, as is, Aetherial Manipulation is one of the least-used skills, below even Tri-Disaster.

I use it all the time in raid. To top it all off I play on PS4 so something like a simple mouse over macro wouldn't work for me. I just use a focus target macro and target someone who I know will be where I want to go when it's all said and done. For example, back in T9 I would target our WHM. She was always positioning herself in preparation for a meteor. So rather than spend a ton of time moving, I would just focus her and if I ended up getting targeted for a meteor, zoom over to her to place it. It has it's uses. You just can't be narrow in your vision of it.

I will say its use can be limited by certain things. Playing on a PS4 does sort of force me to have it as a focus target macro. It's just not efficient enough for me to scroll through the party list to find someone to warp to that will be in a safe spot.

I play on ps4 too and have been using this quite well in dungeons dodging boss attacks..

your right though you have to plan its movement ahead of time really as its not a quick get out of jail card that it feels like it really should be.

so basically I just watch where people are in anticipation of the move coming, know who I will target for movement then use it last second.

plus anyway when you time it just so it makes you look like a pro blm... which is true cus your using all your skills instead of ignoring what appears to be a less useful one.

It has its uses but having a party member as a target do suck. A major issue I see is that you have to wait for your party members to position correctly before using the skill. You risk moving at the last second with the hope that your party members move correctly. This makes the skill more in-line to being a "oh shit" button rather than something that you constantly use to move.

Given that aetherial manipulation is a level 50 skill, changing it to something more useful is reasonable.

I like this skill but never use it. It's either never needed, or if I could make use of some teleportation type skill it's because I was off on my timing. In those cases I typically panic too much and can't select a target in time anyway (either they're too far away to use it or I have to cycle through too many 'bad' ones). It's the sort of skill that I just know is great for situations that I'm never in -- namely a very organized group where I'm using my time so effectively that I'm managing an extra cast at the expense of walking and then teleporting out of range from an attack. Typically I just do dungeons on BLM so it's a novelty.

None of those are bad though. One-Ilm Punch is godlike in PvP, Haymaker is really useful at low levels, and Arm of the Destroyer is a silence in Opo-opo Form (situational yeah, but still actually useful).

Because I want my level 45 job skill to be taken up by a PvP oriented ability in a game that launched with no PvP. Haymaker was of dubious use while leveling and moved straight to complete garbage at max level. Arm of the Destroyer is weaker than an auto attack and its silence is more work than its worth to use, just get someone else to do it.

While I tend to agree with everything you said, nothing beats the feeling of going into a T1 back in the day and everyone asking, "Who's got first silence?" or even the dreaded, "No BRD? Let's quit." and me simply saying as a Monk, "It's alright. I'll solo silence. Watch."

Then proceeding to solo silence every High Voltage. Very situational, yes, but you have to admit solo silencing on a monk feels pretty badass. At least they have that ability.

I actually focus target my WHM most of the time anyways! Though recently started focus targeting our BRD in T12 since he moves in the second phase where I also want to be. Much easier to move across the map with the click of a button. Keeps my uptime on the boss high.

I use it all the time just for fun, macro to #4 so in the middle of turreting I just port over to the healer if 8-man or other dps if 4-man. Hard to say if it's ever actually saved me from anything (porting close to the healer has come in handy) but it's fun to just randomly slide across to room to say 'sup to whoever :P

I have it macro'ed onto <2> to go to the tank, I'll use it in dungeons when I see myself about to pull hate with AoE.

The biggest issue is that most spell casts take up the full GCD, so if you need to dodge you have to start running anyway.

AM is incredibly clunky without the use of appropriate macros, and <mo> makes all the difference here.

I also use and have a macro for Aetherial Manipulation that uses a <2> or whichever party member at the time as i do change number from time to time.

No. Just no. I actually hate having to use the circle AOE target on the NIN version. Much quicker to just target a person and use Aetherial.

Although yes its usable, he has a perfectly valid point. No reason to talk down. and no reason for the skill to not let you pick where ya wanna go.

A lot of fights require you to stack up for aoe heals, then split up to dodge aoes, then stack up again. Making a macro for aetherial manipulation on your least likely to mess up healer make it work well.

Heck, on Shiva EX I tend to try to use it before the cooldown is back up.

BLM in out Static uses it SO MUCH to get off another Fire before damn near everything. Into Thermionic beam positioning, dodging landslides, Divebomb placement into Iron Chariot, when dodging Shiva's safespot abilities, Garuda's whirlwinds... I think the only thing I haven't seem him tie it into is a plume dodge in Ifrit.

It's as useful as you are confident in your timing.

I use it moreso to get INTO position after running to dodge an attack. It takes too much planning on PS4 to be a quick enough escape move.

I macro it to number 4 (console, PC version with controller) so I can easily group up once more.

I tend to move party listing around to meet the stacking req of the instance I'm in.

I do feel like an upgrade, like that ninja crap, would be awesome but it isn't really needed atm.

With how simple BLM's rotation is, and that everything they have involves a castbar, you have PLENTY of time to look around between skills when you know you'll need to pop Aetherial soon to dodge something.

This is all fairly wrong, if i could Aetherial manipulation more than I do already I would. Aetherial is actually better than shukuchi atm. Why? its on a 20 second CD Shukuchi is a 60 second cd. That's pretty huge... it annoys me to no end when I'm playing nin that its that long lol. Basic example that applies to all players: fighting fenrir there is a time in the fight that drops icicles you must get behind, blm can actually teleport behind those icicles everytime they drop, NiN cannot do this. Both abilities are balanced due to this cd.

Tri-Disaster is supposed 2 be cc skill like black mages sleep. How many times have u used sleep in final coil?

Wow what? As a class that does better the less time they spend running, AM is one of the most useful spells a BLM has. First off making it ground targeting as opposed to party targeting is actually making it more difficult IMO (i115 NIN, i117 BLM, Shukuchi is nice but AM wins hands down.) The reason for this is because you can target party members through the party list in your HUD rather than clicking on them. Clicking on the player in general is very inefficient and inaccurate, and more often than none you will end up clicking Eos which angers me to no end. However clicking my WHM on the party list while I'm casting my fire and spamming AM makes for a very quick reposition which will save you LOTS of DPS as a BLM and separates good BLMs from bad BLMs.

Here are some other examples where you could use AM:

Ifrit EX: After running backwards to dodge all the eruptions, melee can all Shoulder Tackle/Splineshatter/Dragonfire Dive/ Shukuchi back to Ifrit's tail to get back in position, an AM to one of those melee will put you back into position and save you the 2-3 Fire I's you miss out on running back.

Titan EX: Macro'ing your AM to your tank or a dependable player let's it become an oh shit button when you get hit by a landslide because manawall ran out one second too early. Yes, AM cancels any position displacement and this will stop you from falling off.

Leviathan EX: AM will be up for every slam, targeting any player that's on the correct side of the boat and using AM right after Levi slams the boat let's you cancel the fling to the other side of the boat and continue dps'ing.

Shiva EX: You can cancel Avalanche with manawall, but in the case where it's not up you can also use AM to cancel the push back and fly back to one of your party mates, keeping you in range and allowing you to continue dps'ing.

T5: Twin dropped her second neurolink and took off in preparation for divebomb, but you still have someone trapped in a conflag! You can stay and throw out one or two more Fire I's before using AM to get into position for divebombs.

T6: You just ran to the edge of the map because you got thorny vined to the player that had to LoS the devour. Rather than running back and losing dps (and probably your stacks of astral fire) use AM and get right back into position and keep your rotation going.

T8: After activating a tower or blowing up a landmine, AM back to the party to save yourself some DPS!

T9: Aside from what I quoted earlier, cancel that pesky Heavensfall displacement with an AM so that you can get an extra one or two Fire I casts before the yellow aoe's get spit out and force you to move.

T10: Every single time you get hit by Wild Charge you can use AM to cancel the displacement of the charge, this is especially useful in the last phase because it will save you from standing in the outer field that ticks for 1100 damage.

T11: You actually don't want to try and use it to dodge Nerve Gas, because more likely than not you will cross under the boss and get hit by Barofield. Also if you're tethered you and your tether buddy will most likely get a stack. However, for the Seed missiles where you have to spread out and then stack up, you can use AM to stack up again.

T12: I only have so much experience in this fight but I've been using it a lot. After Blackfire/Whitefire when the DPS go back to their positions I use AM to join them and save myself some unnecessary loss of dmg from running back. I also use AM when I get the orb for blue fire since the aoe it casts around you is rather large, so using AM to get out of it is very useful. Also, whenever I get the redfire tether, an AM to the designated bluefire person makes it alot easier for them to intercept the redfire orb.

Sadly I haven't cleared T12 yet so I can't say much about T13 :p.
