how to offtank warrior DPS

this just shows what rotation for optimal dps when offtanking. just ignore the mercy strokes, im using macro for it

Glad people are finally using Infuriate -> Unchained for OTing, I've been telling people to use that since early 2.0 but nobody ever listened. Another thing you can do is turn on Defiance before the pull, nearly let it run out, Vengeance, wait a few more seconds, go in and do your opener -> IB -> Infuriate -> IB. Even more optimal opener would be letting it run to the time where you can IB -> IB and then Unchained -> IB the next time Infuriate is up... but no raid team is really going to wait all that time for you to do either. So optimal opener is actually Infuriate -> IB, turn off Defiance, next time Infuriate is up Infuriate -> Unchained -> etc -> IB. This assumes you won't be needing Unchained for actually tanking a thing within that time, but this applies to this rotation for any circumstance.

If you do ever have to tank anything before Unchained is back up, it IS worth holding onto it for that period, especially if it's a short add phase. Haven't done the math, but I imagine tanking in Defiance for 20s will end up in a net loss of DPS vs a free 300 potency attack every 120s.

But yeah. Eye -> Fracture -> BB, Defiance/Infuriate/Unchained when it's up and you'll get a free IB, no need to pair Berserk with Unchained due to the fact you won't be in Defiance as soon as Unchained ends, etc etc.

could be good opener but might u might pull from MT

being on defiance also increases crit up to 10% depending on wrath stacks. also thanks to eye duration buff you can apply fracture without losing slashing debuff

Yeah, main problem with it, though with SE -> SP (while not optimal potency) you won't pull or if you do itll be for like 2s and then you're pacified. That's why I recommend IBing first instead of Unchaining into IB, allows the tank to get 60s of aggro. As far as I've tested, IB at the start won't pull off a MT with the same ilvl wep, especially since you'll be doing your SE combo out of Defiance directly after so he'll at least be getting it back within a split second.

You have me super confused here... What do you mean let Defiance nearly run out? It's permanent until you take it off. And why Vengeance? I'm not calling you on your decisions, I'm just trying to understand them. I feel like I'm misreading something.

Sorry, that was my fault. Meant letting 5 Wrath nearly run out (from Infuriate), Vengeance is to maintain the 5 Wrath as they're about to fall off. This allows you to do 2 IBs if timed correctly, Unchained -> combos and stuff -> IB -> IB is a bit easier but will build more aggro. Both take a lot of prep time, so 1 IB is all you'll likely get off for your opener, but it is completely free as long as you don't need Infuriate in the next 60s. The Unchained Opener is good if you don't need Unchained in the next 120s, but the pure IB opener is best if you'll need Unchained in the next 60s.

Ok I'm pretty new to tanking in mmo as a whole but wouldn't you prefer to be out of Defiance when you are offtanking?
It seems like that extra 300 potency attack every 7 gcd is really offset by 33% greater dps throughout. Only popping Defiance when you need to tank adds.

Warrior has a skill called Unchained that lasts 20s and is on a 120s CD, only available @ 5 Wrath stacks. Unchained nullifies the damage penalty from Defiance. Infuriate, which sits on a 60s CD, instantly gives you 5 Wrath stacks. So you would go Defiance -> Infuriate -> Unchained -> build 5 Wrath in those 20s (faster with Berserk or Vengeance as both give you +1 Wrath) -> IB -> turn Defiance off. So you gain a free 300 potency attack every 120s. If you time it correctly at the start (which likely will never happen because it would take a minute of prep time lol), you can get 2 free 300 potency attacks, and then another 300 potency attack 60s later. If you don't, you can get 1 free one at the start, and another 60s later.

The main problem with this is if you'll be tanking anything any time soon, as Unchained is much more valuable in a scenario where you'll be tanking something for 20s vs using it for the free 300 potency attack. If you won't need it for 120s, it's fine to use it during your opener and if you don't need to use it for 180s it's fine to open with raw IB, then Unchained -> etc -> IB when Infuriate is back up. It's all about knowing the fight and maximizing your DPS.
