A boss so large could give the battle team a whole new way to design a fight.
There might even be a lot of traveling between it's body parts to damage weak points to break the cycle of all summons being fought in a circle arena.

Would be nice if SE could create that epic feeling. So far only Titan has that for me. The other primals are really just an S rank with mechanics. -

the next CT step isn't the Eureka Lands but the World of Darkness. And iirc, it will feature the 4 apocalyps knights and the cloud of darkness as end boss.

Alexander is the last obviously classic summon left to include, I'm hoping they save him for something epic in Heavensward. He seems like he would fit in the expansion well, knights and castles and holy wars and all that.

I could see Alexander being somehow related to Ishgard, as Ishgard is known as the holy see and the people are very religious, and Alexander is a holy/light based summon. Obviously not a deity as the people of Ishgard worship Halone.
I personally liked how they used Alexander in FFXI and I wouldn't mind seeing something similar. -

Getting knocked off by attacks (probably) won't kill you... but you will have to scale your way up (and if you fall off and die from the damage a healer has to go back down to res you). plain and simple, alexander is a dungeon and as op described you travel through out weakening the beast, lets say while its stomping towards the destruction of some city, so it would be a challenge on the team to create a dungeon thats moving on the insides as well as outside (would be visually amazing as i picture it could even add the random dungeon paths thing) then once you get to the heart (deep inside) or head (top of a tower) you would fight a weaker manifestation of alexander in humanoid form, I would think the top of the tower would look way better as you looked out to see the city your about to save creating the sense of urgency. could even incorporate the new flying black chocobos to fly from part to part of the giant summon.

And the more damage you do to various internal structures along the way, the weaker the boss at the end will be? With the necessity of balancing it against a timer? It'll be like T2 was supposed to work.
In any case, Alexander is likely to appear in Heavensward, I think. He was a rival to Bahamut in FFIX, although he's probably an Allag god rather than anything associated with Ishgard. Heck, he might even be a deification of Emperor Xande, "Allag-Xande" as someone else pointed out. -

This type of large scale fight that the OP suggested was what I was hoping for in t13. Unfortunately it wasn't to be but, it would awesome if they incorporated down the line. It would probably work best in 24 man content though.

I'm actually not sure what kind of presence Alexander could be given in this game that would satisfy me. "Journey into his body and beat up his core" doesn't really do it for me. Neither does "fight a tiny version of Alexander". On the other hand fighting a full-sized Alexander would just be silly, since the only possible way to succeed would be if Alex was considerate enough not to just end the fight by stepping on you. As he charges an attack to take one airship down, your party jumps off that airship to an adjacent one to avoid the attack. Then the airship that got vacated can quickly move out of the way of the attack so that way it can reposition itself to jumped on again when another charged attack happens. The airship concept kind of fits with the heavensward theme of flying too.Quote:

If you didn't play XI or quit before Treasure of Aht Urghan, Alexander's old and broken husk of a body is the Ruins of Alzadeel, also known as Nyzul Isle. During his battle with Odin long before the FFXI story, Alexander's body was broken by Odin. Odin sought to finish Alexander, and maintained himself in the world through a Dark Rider who was someone Odin made a pact with for the sake of revenge, granting him immortality with the promise of Alexander's Destruction in return. The Dark Rider is Prince Luuzaf, with the option of the player to become Odin's new Vessel. Meanwhile, the Aht Urgan Empire sought to revive Alexander to quell uprisings among their people and the beast men alike. However, the control body that was created to control the Alzadeel ruins became possessed by Alexander, resulting in his second coming of Alexander, leading to the penultimate battle of ToUA. Basically, you fight a dark Alexander within something that resembles Classic Alexander. A lot of people are theorycrafting that alexander is Coerthas. If Alexander is indeed a castle-like entity, it would be a multi-stage boss fight where you have to actually traverse the boss to kill it (In one massive moving arena.)

Aww yeah, bring on Alexander. He is one of my favorite summons. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought FFIX's Alexander was not the city itself in the sense that the body of the city became him, rather he protected and had summoning point there. At least how I saw it.. XD. I only say that since someone said using the city might break lore, although it could be neat to have SE phase the city into a broken state. Would be problematic if they want Ishgard to be the new hub for players, not so if they don't - also depending on how long the quest is. Say he spawns, big fight pretty graphics pew pew, city is wrecked and you work to fix the city. Technically you could make it all in world state, like Revenants Toll - but then players going through the story at a later date would have the same issue as Toll's.
I like the idea of making him a dungeon, perhaps they can get a back drop in certain locations to give a massive movement feeling (God of War Titan fight). Or like the Weapon that attacks the Shinra coast cannon in FFVII, could even have the time limit refer to stopping/helping him reaching his destination (depending on if they play mindless evil Alex or good protector).
Not that he needs to be either of those, I just hope they keep him big. -
