If people are permitted to purchase Exclusive or Rare Cards in Cash Shop, that will be the last straw for me.
Just warning you now SE in case you were thinking of it... I'm sure I won't be the only one.

If is going to be really similar to a TCG. I can totally see booster packs or reduced penalties via micro-transaction. But hey, this is all optional! /sarcasm
Lol, I would be shocked if the cash shop doesn't get cards for the new card game.
I wonder how many this "many" really is. Seeing as only a vocal minority actually posts about these kinds of things.
It's a trend that a very vocal minority is not happy about it, but at the same time they've rarely been happy about anything. Them threatening to leave over everything that get announced it just makes me want laugh. While I don't necessarily agree with certain aspects of the cash shop I don't come here to make empty threats of leaving either such as people crying they're going to quit over the Eternal Bond as if the sole purpose of them staying in this game to this point was for that.
I dare to say, cause i know cases. That there is a good bunch of players that were hanging on the rope of interest for this game exclusively on Eternal Bonding and Gold Saucer. With Eternal Bonding being this badly introduced to say it gently, most of them already have low to no faith in Gold Saucer being free of any kind of micro-transactions. And as silly as it might sound for most frecuent players on this forums, for this group of players, which im kinda in, Eternal Bonding and Gold Saucer (and before this Hunts and Housing) are our "High End Raids". The content we want to enjoy and focus. And well... Yet, is full of empty threats of leaving, but sadly, there is a lot of players actually about to leave because this series of unfortunate bad decisions.
Quit. Now. Boosters will be sold in the cash shop.
I have no evidence for this, I have no inside information. I am going on years and years of MMO-integrated TCG experience.
If this is the final straw for you, then you should quit now. They haven't even given details yet, and I can guarantee it.
But let me counter: Why is being able to buy boosters for a COLLECTIBLE CARD GAME a bad thing? The entire concept depends on that.
In fairness are there any other (popular and not obscure) subscription based MMOs with Cash shops?
Actual question not rhetorical.
This, this, this, and some more of this. It's like playing the Pokemon TCG and threatening to never buy another Pokemon video game when you are forced to buy a booster pack that doesn't have 7 holo-foil Charizards.
So please do quit. The game, the forums, and all the reasonable people within have had enough whining at this point. I'm sure we'll welcome your departure.
It will be connected to Triple Triad on FF Portal App so I can see it coming.
Well no, thats not a fair example and I'll explain why. Pokemon TCG has always been about buying boosters and collecting cards, much like other card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, and such. Triple Triad is not, and comparing it to a TCG is almost a mad mans attempt to justify the thought of booster packs in the shop... forgive the frankness, but last i checked, I didn't buy a single GD booster pack in Final Fantasy 8. I'd much much rather them just give us a "Card" ability and force me to farm the cards, adding rare ones to quests/dungeons/In-Saucer events than to have to drop 5.99$ on a 5-set booster pack. I don't mind buying TCG cards, physical version... I get the enjoyment of collecting those and I enjoy a lot of TCG's and collect and play them myself.
For what its worth, I'm not against the cash shop in general, in some games I think it works, I've used it in games like GW2 occasionally, even in STO... I do not find it to be the source of all evil... but I don't find any positives to a cash shop in XIV at this time, as I know without one, these items would be obtainable through other means, but since they can sell them for money... they'll sell it for money. I suppose the same could be said for GW2/STO, but those are also both F2P...
Though the apathetic sigh of disappointed in humanity when I see someone riding a 24$ digital horse does seem to be killing me slowly.
And for what its worth, I know this is pure speculation... so I'm personally not freaking out over it, just pointing out... apple and oranges my lady apples and oranges. Even if they add Boosters to the cash shop, so long as I can obtain them in game I'll be happy enough to continue to ignore the cash shops existence.
I've heard of Eve Online and I'll commend the commitment of those who play it but will eternally avoid it. I've read enough of the articles on people losing thousands in raids(on them not events) lol.
Still I guess I should say... just thinking on it, I get people can spend their money however they won't so its not like I actively laugh at those people, as far as I see it if they ENJOY spending that money on the horse, then thats a good use of their money in my eyes. So enjoy your horse but you better be in Odin armor or you may as well have just burnt the 24$ instead >:I
A better comparison, since FF8 is a single player game: In EQ1 and EQ2, there exists a card game. It's entirely possible to get booster packs as drops, and people who pay monthly fees get 5 free boosters each month. In addition, the boosters are also for sale on the cash shop. Now, the "5 free boosters" thing doesn't work for FFXIV since we're ALL paying, whereas EQ1 and 2 were F2P when that incentive was added. It's simply not profitable for them to do so.
The card game also had rare cards that could be redeemed for special things in EQ1 and 2 ranging from vanity gear, to house paintings, to actual houses.
There's also WoWs TCGs. TWO of them. One of which was similar to the EQ example, but used real cards. Last I checked, though, Hearthstone had a cash shop.
FFXI was ALSO semi-attached to a card game that had a separate monthly fee. If you don't remember it...well...
TCGs are games within games.
Funny you should mention that...when Iceland's economy tanked a few years ago, some economists took a look and noted that EVE online's ISK was a more viable currency at that exact moment than Iceland's actual currency was.
EVE isn't so much "Pay to Win" at this point as it is "Pay to Actually Do Anything of Substance"
I get what angle you're coming from, and while I can see your train of thought here... I have to simply disagree, nothing more. Triple Triad was never about collecting those cards via boosters, like EQ1/EQ2/WoW and such are, those card games were designed with Boosters in mind, which is why they exist. Triple Triad was not. So I'm comparing Triple Triad, to Triple Triad... I don't feel there can be any better comparison on the subject.
And in Triple Triad, there are no booster packs, only Card, Duels, and GFs.
Still I'm sure it needs repeating... I'm not going to unsub if they add them, I'll just be disappointed if they substitute the cards dropping, adding "Card" ability, or dueling/saucer events for them in exchange for just throwing them in the cash shop. Not because the cash shop is awful, but because all of the possibilities and hours of enjoyment I could have gotten farming cards and reminiscing on FF8s card collecting adventures such will be replaced with a Credit Card and buyers remorse.
If they add both In-game methods and Cash shop? I won't be throwing no fits, I just want Triple Triad to be more than a test of how much money I can not spend on bills this week. Can we both agree on that?
Well then this post is for you too :D And an argument I still find equally inadequate. Triple Triad isn't an original idea or concept created with Booster packs in mind like EQ1/2/etc were. Which I imagine is the only reason people are preemptively becoming upset. I'm not personally foaming at the mouth, but I understand why people would be angry at something like this. Understanding doesn't mean I agree with the notion of quiting because of it, i'm just more open minded on the subject than most.
Which is why I can understand where Kyu is coming from and where shes going with it, even if I don't agree on it :D.
I just looked this up as I didn't know that. Wonder how many people here actually know that themselves and from my understanding according to siliconera is that triple triad will be f2p on the app meaning you won't need to be subbed to 14 to play it but can play with people in 14. So I will no pose this question to those people. If there shouldn't be a way to buy cards with real money but only in game tokens or gil how do you suggest that to be fair to the players who play just on the iOS or Android. Would that not be an unfair advantage you having an alternate method to get cards while those people are stuck to RNG god on their end.
If I was part of the dev. team, I would check the amount of money that I'm getting through the cash shop compared to the amount of people complaining about it. Also, most people complain about it, not only because they fear the cash shop would turn into a P2W thing or that will lead the game to a F2P mode, but they can't get the items there by just playing the game. These booster packs are something that you should get in-game or just pay for them. We don't even know if you're going to get items that will break the balance of the game by playing Triple Triad, they will probably reward you with vanity or cosmetic stuff. Now, and I'll be completely honest with this, if it breaks the game's balance... I would be really pissed off...
Golden Saucer seems to be following the same hype trend that all the current cash shop content is getting.
Step 1: Announce the content
Step 2: Hype the content for months with small drips of information slowly revealing more and exciting the player base into a ravenous frenzy.
SE:

Step 3: 2 days before release of the content. Announce the cash shop "Premium" features.
If they sell powerful cards and not just special edition ones, then it's going to be in-line with pay to win.
Yoshida mentioned that the cash shop is not for "pay to win" in the last live event. Won't be surprised if he breaks this though.
Isn't Triple Triad going to be a separate game? Like Blizzard has their wow card game hearthstone separate from the game played on pc/tablets. They made millions selling booster packs for it. I thought I saw SE say that Triple Triad would be on like phones and tablets as well.
What blizzard did is you could earn booster by beating people and getting gold or buy them with real money if you didn't want to keep playing matches to win gold.
There's going to be a JP phone app dedicated to triple triad as I read in an article but it also mentioned that all cards will be available in the version that will be available in FF14.
Depending on how SE will make the card game, it can spread outside of the Gold Saucer wherein you can challenge NPCs to card games like in FF8.
It'd simply be like TM for FFXI/Playonline - It'll have a shop/Auction House for cards but there it was with gil, nowadays people have proven they'd pay real money, so if you leave the game..nothing lost - many more will gladly pay for it that more than covers your lost $12-$15.
Bump! I just wanted to show my support of this thread.
