The recent live letter confirmed that the Carteneau Flats: Borderland Ruins will be getting a new rule set for the map.
Anyone want to place bets on what the new rules are?

All healing spells placed on a one minute cooldown. Fairies only allowed to heal themselves. Halve potency of all healer attack spells : stone/stone2/bio etc. Halve knockback range of aura blast+fluid aura. Half the duration for whm repose. Add 100% increased durability reduction for all healer gear.
Sorry, but how sad is this? First we getting the same gear (Just other colors) for 110 and now we getting the same frontlines again (No matter if different rules or not). Thats lust lazy development in its best form. Seriously that sucks a lot.
Can we expect shiny animal gear with 3.0 and a third frontline map aswell? I REALLY hoped for a totally new map/mode for smaller teams, where i dont have to carry other people like in frontlines. After 260 frontline games i am actually totally tired of this map and i dont wanna beg for healers anymore.
After 2.4 lands with the "new" pvp gear i was thinking "Okay, the devs might just want to give us something to work for until we get a new exiting map in 2.5". And now this...
Yeah it's kinda lame that they couldn't even make a new map but I guess PvP isn't really a popular enough feature for them to devote that much resources to it.
On topic though, I'm guessing that the new modes will be capture the flag and team deathmatch.
For capture the flag I'm thinking 1 flag placed at each of the starting OPs on the map. Flags are worth a certain amount of points, still have drones and stuff in the middle for extra points, who ever caps points first wins.
For team deathmatch basically the same, except instead of flags, kills are worth points, whoever caps points first wins.
My hope for pvp in 2.5 is that with these 2 modes being added they can add a frontline roulette which they said they would already. In addition to this if they add some new ranks and new gear models for the higher ranks then they can remove the rank restrictions of the rank 40 gear sets. With all of that added incentive I think that PvP would come back to life at least for a little while.
Hm, i think it will not be team death match. Thats not good on that map. I can imagine something like a package delivery mode. Lets say your group has to deliver something from helio to op or something and the other groups have to kill you while doing what. Something like that.
And all melee's/tanks/bards with instant abilities will get a free off-GCD silence ability against casters/healers with no cooldown which auto-casts between their use of Instant abilities every two-three seconds, giving them 2x the ability to interrupt all their actions.
OH WAIT... they already have that, it's called AUTO-ATTACK...
They are not going to add any PvP gear before 3.0 hits. The gear, in a setting where there is no ilvl sync, is already i130 in PvP meaning it is already at max cap until expansion. Also the expansion is coming out shortly after 2.5(few months) and it would make no sense to introduce progression that will become irrelevant so soon.
On another note the team death match thing would be a cool idea, but wouldn't work in a 24v24v24 and is more suitable for a small scale arena(Wolves' Den like) where people just fight each other to death :)
I expect it to be 8v8v8, just like a 24 man frontline match. Only the outpost flags can be captured. This time, it'll be unsynced and materia effects active.
This version would be fun... "Kite the Morbol'... Instead of drones and nodes at Mid, it's a swamp with invincible Morbols. While teams capture and hold the flags, a group from each GC heads to mid and tries to kite one or more Morbols to the other teams. More than one tactical option here... you could take one or two to the flag you're at and try to MPK the other party and hopefully not your own... or take it to where the other two GC's are fighting and Morbol them by surprise and take their flag.
I hear there's already a PVE version of this game.
Hoping for CTF but not sure how it would work with same map we have atm, also TDM should be there aswell because its irritating to play objective based modes when most of your alliance members wants just to kill stuff >_>
They already said no to this.
So long as it involves actual PvP, meaning people killing each other it's fine.
No more atrocities like killing drones and nodes being completely game deciding and tide turning, and just overall too important, pve crap in my PvP
Only ninja, only hide.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Ballista rules from 11 come back, but with a 14 style twist.
Yeah exactly... I'd love to aim a Morbol at a group of 16 people and MPK them, and actually be rewarded for it. Basically a version where an MPK element is added and what better tool for that, than a Morbol with its giant red cone of death.
You could try doing some Morbolling in Central or East Shroud and seeing if that night have potential.

Been there, it was a gg.
I hope they add a real 8x8x8.
I really hope it isn't CTF.
Scholars would be so overpowered it wouldn't be funny.
I would love to see an 8v8 wolves den, could work in well with a duty roulette as they can put people from the popular GC in there while putting the less popular GC in the frontlines queue. I doubt the new pvp modes will be uncapped because it's likely going to be added to the duty roulette and people will be more likely to queue with an ilvl sync.
For those complaining about no new map:
"We’re currently in the midst of planning new maps for the expansion, and afterwards we are also planning to expand the Wolves’ Den."
You didn't read the first post very well. We ARE getting it, just not right away. Patience, guys :B
As for the topic, I agree with Ultimatecalibur. The map being the same with different rules will make a totally different game enough as it is. Also: Frontlines isn't going to be changed, I think a new separate que will be added for the new version. Like normal and hard mode instances.
Could simply disable actions and place the flag carrier at a specific and same Max HP regardless of job. Doesn't another MMO (WoW was it?) do something similar?
Part of me wonders if new rules could mean a Frontlines with no GC restrictions, but I suppose if it's the same map than the lore wouldn't support it like a new battleground's lore could.
I am pretty sure it will have gc restrictions too. Just think about it. Since new and old frontlines will be in the same pvp-roulette, they would have the same rules for entering aswell.
Maybe they'll implement a consistent decay to Healers health.
i hope roshan spawns in the center and drops the aegis.
Lets be honest , PvP has never been Final Fantasy's strong point and things will most likely not change anytime in the near future , which could be decades since the franchise has been out since my childhood.
Hoping for a neutral flag in the middle of the map with neutral mobs scatter about the map that spawn on timers similar to before.
Would you prioritise stealing the enemy's neutral mobs or capturing the flag? Crafty plays!
My guess is the Manor, Market (I play Grid so idk last one's name.) and center will spawn a flag that has to be taken to your GC base to score. First to 15~ wins. /shrug
Instead thinking about what you say I thought that they CAN do a new frontline without GC restriction, because if they will add a pvp roulette they will involve Wolves' Den too (I suppose), and it has no GC restrictions but party formation limits.
Anyway are we sure that thay wouldn't just change the actual Frontline?
The PvP Roulette will only include the two frontline games (Thats confirmed). It wouldnt work with wolfs den anyway. Because healers and tanks would always end in wolfs den. Think about it. two DDs are queueing for wolfs den and they would need 1 heal and 1 tank to start. So basicly what happens now is that the system would always put the heals/tanks in those wolfs den groups, because they are needed for it to start while they arent needed for frontlines to start.
