it has to be my gf she hates this game says i play to much and pay her no mind...
how do i get her to stop for all our sakes?

My guess is it's the hacker known as 4chan.

I know when Warlords released, they were attacked, and its not like this is the first attack ever. Maybe SE could copy what the other companies have done to prevent this from happening? Just a thought :3

It's incredibly hard to prevent a DDoS. Generally speaking, companies have to simply wait it out; hope they get bored and move on to someone else.

Some guy claimed to be doing it to raise awareness to autism or something but was found to be false. I personally believe its the Chinese in an wide spread attempt to see if they can shut down E-commerce and communications in mass. Or simply training their next gen hackers by trolling one segment at a time. Or its gil sellers taking revenge for the bot/account bands and lack of easy income. Or Obama supporters who want to give the fed more reason to assert more power over the internet traffic. Realistically its likely some Troll with an axe to grind by tick'n other people off for no particular reason.

However FFXiv is one of several DDoS lately, WoW, Everquest, and a few others (not just game servers) are having the same problem lately. What I have noticed is XI seems to be immune.. Coincidence.. likely...

I can confirm too Wildstar was hit with attacks a month or so ago which coincided around the time major PVP fixes were made. Guild Wars 2 was also hit around the same time but I can't remember if it was targeted around a Living Story patch or any other patch for that matter. The rumor we heard was the attacks were due to some ongoing protest about the monetization of games via subscription fees, cash shops and micro transactions. Weither its true or not I dunno or if it has anything to do with the attacks on FFXIV but it seems games get targeted just as they receive a major patch or expansion.

XI got attacked like this a few times back when it was a bit popular. Maybe attackers have just forgotten it exists or don't care.
