Relic weapons and 3.0

Soo after readying the new Dev Blog It hinted at the Next and perhaps the Final upgrade to the relic weapons. For someone like me who has shrived to stay away from doing the relic stuff. Mostly due to the atma grind slaughtering my hopes of it.

My question is; is the relic weapons still gonna be viable in 3.0? With the raise of the level cap is there gonna me new enhancement quest for it? Or is it gonna be discarded for better new stuff. IF so is there really a point besides the achievements and the glory/pride in doing the relics al the way to the current Nexus and beyond?

Id like to hear your thoughts!!

Next step will require going back through all old dungeons / raids and collecting the unique weapon drops and also buying the unique vendor weapons from tomes/Grand Company/PvP for your class and trading them in for the next level weapon

The problem as it is about relic weapons is their utilities and their true purpose, they re used as a catch-up weapon to motivate or to make people ready at facing incoming end-game contents when it is released.
And for people who don't raid for various reasons, they re but just decent weapons to have :p

A question remain though, will they decide to make them more worth to have in the future? Don't get me wrong, they got their uses right now for the above reasons but what I mean is more linked to real legendary weapons like you can find in any mmos, true and powerfuls weapons with some crazy effects (dps wise) and have to complete various and very hard challenges in order to get one.

I think relic will end with 2.5. It'lk become the zodiac and be complete. 3 0 will start a new quest chain.

I think what they could do, as to not anger those working on relic is offer the same sort of "perk" that players who were working on relics in 1.0 received.

I can understand why they might not want a quest chain for a weapon that starts from square one and continues onto the next expansion since as many can see that's a lot of content to go through to reach a point which is feeble in terms of what it would be at that point in time.

What I can see them doing is adding a perk for having a completed relic weapon to the next quest line that offers an ultimate weapon of that context, however instead of being a perk that is only offer for the start of the quest line, this perk would be added to each part of the quest line.

So pretty much by having the relic weapon on hand you could bypass certain requirements of the questline which would encourage others to continue/finish their relic if the perks are good enough/worthwhile to use.

One example could be this.
Without Relic= Kill 10k x mob
With Relic=kill 1k x mob

Just large number for the sake of large numbers but the idea is that with the relic you can greatly reduce the time it would take to obtain the new weapon however with each update that perk would reduce in how much it would decrease the time in obtain the new weapon.

They could make a final upgrade to them, and adjust their stats/ilvl with future patches. But somehow I have the feeling we will be upgrading them forever....

I'm sure there is an end to the Zodiac Weapon and that Developer Post pretty much says, this is it for the weapons. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes next.

You should post this in the Q&A live letter thread. I would love to have an answer regarding this subject. I don't know if I should stack Alex, materia and that stuff for the 3.0 when the new jobs come out.

My friend has recently started the game and got the Zenith and Atma stage of the Relic. He asks now that the expansion is coming in the not so far future is it worth all the pain to get the Nexus (and whatever the new stage will be) with 3.0 near? Will it be useless in 3.0? I have a feeling we gonna upgrade this weapon forever or smth. It has no logic to implement another stage to Relic after Nexus with 3.0 so near. But who knows. Since we got this upgrade system for Relic a whole year now I'm not sure I wanna abandon my Relic forever.

2.0: Curtana + Holy Shield > Zenith > Atma > Animus > Novus > Nexus > Excalibur + Aegis.
3.0: Excalibur + Aegis > Zenith > Atma > Animus > Novus > Nexus > ??? + ???.

I wouldn't put it past them.

I kinda hope the WHM one either becomes Mjolnir somehow, or loses the stick and the headpiece turns into something like a PSO mag floating over your shoulder.

A few issues that people need to think of when 3.0 is coming out.

1. New people / returning players.
Returning players and new players would have TOO MUCH to catch up on if they continued using the current relics as the up-gradable weapons. Thus it is in the best interest of the whole to create a new set of weapons.

2. New jobs and retcon.
It would be horrid from a lore stand point to once again be like, "oh rowena had this weapon in her storage too." (Like with ninja/rogue)

3. Difficulty of the current quest chain.
While it isn't very difficult as it is time consuming. Can you imagine trying to do these old dungeons for animus books when... everyone is in the new zone on level 60s >_>?

4. Weapon LV and item lv.
The new level cap is going to be 60. At this point the old weapons have already gone through way too many stages... now we would have to upgrade them at least twice to get them useful at lv 60.

5. Vanity and Animations.
If I recall correctly there was some interview where yoshi mentions that the current relics would eventually end and have unique skill animations when used. (Meaning they are likely to become vanity pieces.)

Eh. I don't see them completely getting rid of the relic weapon as a concept, though they may "reboot" it by basically ending the current quest chain and starting a new one that will be more new-player and returning-player-friendly as far as catching up goes. The current quest chain is pretty daunting.
