Sure my character isn't all lvl 50s but I already re-rolled my character to play to this point with the new gameplay balances. I've already played my character more than most single player games last and I'm attached to him.
Also I probably would change servers to a less dead one if I could BUT I know for sure my boyfriend would never do that. Ever.
XIV is the first game he has played and there's no chance he'd ever let his progress go to waste. There's no way I could leave him on a separate server.
It's no big secret most players have left the game. I think it would be reasonable for SE to let us at least play together.
So many aspects of the game are not working due to the low population. The economy is terrible, there never is items on sale you're looking for and parties just don't happen so right out of the bat that's 70% of the entire game I don't have access to. We're talking about good quality content already in the game here.
When I've managed to be in a party or a full behest the gameplay is A LOT better. Playing together is why we play MMOS in the first place. It's weird that we have this completely superficial rule that keeps us apart.
LET ME AT LEAST PAY FOR A SERVER CHANGE!! For Twelwe's sake I'm offering free money here SE!

this would cause most players to move to certain fixed servers and leave many servers more dead than they are now and a few really populated.

Yeah I don't agree with server transfers at all. IMO World of Warcraft really effed up when they added all those paid services like changing your name and server transfer. Make it fun for a few rich people, whilst ruining everybody else's servers and causing confusion. Not to mention Even if you're rich you can't fix a dead server. And killing servers is bad. The community would have their head for that.

Any MMO that doesn't offer server transfers is behind the curve, end of story.
Alot of us have legit reasons for wanting to transfer, like the few of us stuck on the "unofficial" oceanic server.
I rolled here with a few good friends from XI but it's a nightmare finding people to play with or form a shell with in our timezone. I could reroll and catch back up in a few weeks but some of them have multiple 50s and crafts which isn't an option to just ditch and start over. -

Also do you really want to limit your gameplay experience just because you don't like everybody on different servers?
For example in XI sure there's some hilariously offensive /shouting going on at all times but the high population keeps the economy healthy and the AH can always offer the things I want to buy from there. Also if the transferring was made free then those who enjoy to play a MMO all by themselves could easily take trips to dead servers when they want some "me"-time.
Just walking in a city while doing nothing is a lot more enjoyable also visually when you see other players running by doing their thing.
Also if you really don't like some players you can alway blacklist them. -

One free server transfer every week. Only forbid transfers to the overpopulated servers (based on the playing population, not the number of char created). This would allow players to easily play with their friends, and naturally create maximum population servers, which are good things.
This is what we can expect for a 2011 MMO. -

There isnt a server transfer atm so they can balance the populations between servers, its why some servers get temporerily closed when thier population gets too high (mainly saw it at release), I dont think we will get server transfers till after the ps3 release or you will have some servers with really high populations and some with no one on, Besaid, Selbina and Mysidia would have a huge eruption in population while Gysahl, Karnak and Istory would have no one on.

Im not a huge fan of server transfers but thats becaus I was an original player on one of the most popular servers in wow(Illidan) people were ALWAYS transfering to Illidan and it caused a lot of trouble. That being said in a game like FFXIV with so few players I say lets open the flood gates and lets transfers happen!

Yes please to server transfers, why should we be forced to "suffer" dead servers when we pay the same fee. (eventually)
Failing that, server merge would be a reasonable alternative until the PS3 floodgates are open. -

in this time of free play and what not we should all be transfered to 2 or 3 servers so they can be full. after ps3 drops then make it so SE can even out all the servers.

If they let us start changing servers you'd have a small handful of overpopulated servers and the rest would be completely empty. How does that look for PS3 and/or new players starting the game? They'd want to get into a populated server but instead their options are "not getting into the over populated servers" or "Colonize a dead server".
Personally if I were SE I'd wait until after the PS3 population stabilizes to allow any kind of server transfers and/or merges. -

Server transfers are the one thing that would take my FFXIV experience from "pretty darn good" to "oh thank god yes." I was dumb, and took the side of the friends that I knew weren't in the game for the long haul and went to Trabia instead of Besaid. But I just can't bring myself (or convince my duo partner) to re-roll when I have 306 play hours logged on this character.
Server transfers, I would gladly pay for them. And pay a lot for them. -

Rift went the weekly transfer way, I find it quite adequate (since the game has an open PvP component).
WoW went the cross-shard LFD way, and focuses on guild progression: the average player doesn't really care on what server he is, until he want to play with some specific out of game friend. They intend to go for the cross-shard group making (and are struggling on how to monetize this).
In the case of FF14, a game with last names (reduces names collisions), multiple guilds (good thing to handle a lot of potential people), only PvE content (every thing can be instantiated), and an international community, if they could have a single server, with instantiated zones, I pretty sure it would turn out nicely. Of course seeing how SE is handling a mere interface rework, I'm pretty sure it's out of the question.
Hence my request for a slow transfer option (weekly or even monthly would be enough, since we only have one character). -

Also the interface is not top of thier priorities either there are other more important things to fix in the game before asthethics, the UI works, admittedly not as well as it could but it does, it will be fixed just when it comes up in thier priority list. -
