It could stand to do the same damage as its other TP moves. On me, while tanking, the punch does around 800, Front cone around 600, Elbow drop ive seen do 1200+, but Inferno drop has hit me usually between 1600 and 2000, and can insta-kill anyone else that isn't a marauder. This ability just hates on Melees and anyone that happens to be too close.
*waits for the 'just stun it' comments*
Keep in mind that Inferno drop can also be evaded :)
You figure out the rest.
Whoa wait Lauro?? Dude, equip featherfoot bro. Also as lancer you get Diversion!
Lol at evade it... some attacks arent evadeable, Fire drop being one of them. it Isnt a physical attack, he never 'swings' at you. its elemental. You can evade the punch and both cones but not this. I use featherfoot II all the time, it aint getting dodged.
Its like saying dodge supernova... unless we are cloud at level 99 after 10 hero drinks... yea.
I will mention that the elemental attacks Red Lotus (fire), Iron Tempest (Wind), Seismic Shock (Earth ground, auto-evaded buy flying only), and Luminous spire (Astral) are also not evadable and never miss. Go figure..

Use a Lancer, problem solved.
Seriously, when I fought the Ogre as a Lancer, the fight was surprisingly much easier than when I went in as an Archer. And I never got hit by the Ogre as Lancer as well, didn't need to run away from AoE since I stick to his side + Twisting Vice/Leg Sweep most of his TP attacks. You can evade Fire Drop with Decoy.
Btw, don't Moonrise it. Moonrise only stop TP self-generate like Invigorate.
try the bat reg combo that slows tp gain and raises tp cost. normal attack+ws
your glad should be loaded with tp so just have you dd start the BR with a normal attack and then glad finish it.
better off giong normal attack+normal attack+ws, that will lower def and slow tp generation and raise tp cost.
Lancer's do normally do the trick, but decoy isn't an evasion skill. It absorbes damage ranged and magic attacks. Good for reducing the damage it a bit. Goes back to 'must rank everything to be good' tho, as its r36 archer.
Sentinel helps when he starts using it too.
You can cause all of his attacks to stop, even bone breaker if you're lucky, even tho its like .5second for it to use. How-ever. It's damage range is still too high on the fire drop compared to all the other skills it uses.
Wow that is a big hit...If you arent exaggerating Id suggest either upgrading your armor or making sure you use ur def buffs. I play GLA w/ 504 defense, and the most he usually hits w inferno drop is 1300. Make sure you keep Obsess up on him at all times, If you can time Sentinel right you can get the dmg down to under 1k, somewhere around 600-800. Decoy also works to avoid it altogether, Tempered Will can cut down the dmg. If you dont have a good thm keeping him stacked with paralyze and slow, you can use some disabling potions or paralyzing potions. With a good thm or a healthy supply of potions you can easily go through the entire fight without him using it at all. Shield Bash also works to stun him, though while tanking I personally dont usually get it off fast enough. Defender 2 is an obvious one.
We all struggled with the Insaneo drop, but definitely keeping obsess up will cut down dmg, and debuffs or stuns will cut it out all together. With a great thm in your pt he sometimes goes for 20 second stretches without doing anything, at all. Good luck on your next attempt =)
Killed it like..... 30 times thanks. Shield bash doesn't stun.... not ffxi. Dont think I havent used it against him, I have, it doesn't stun (read description). All my gear is boss. 174 vit. 75mnd for mg def. It hits for a very random range, since its elemental and all, not physical (aka all your plate armors don't mean jack towards it). If you dont happen to have stoneskin up at the time, you'll get hit pretty hard. Even with obsess II (especially since it increases defense to the target, no mag def increase specified) you may or may not get slammed.
WS do interrupt from time to time, so do regular auto attacks. But shield bash doesn't stun.. It interrupts spell casts and mutes for like 4 seconds, but it doesn't 'stun', and mute doesnt prevent the use of weapon skills. Theres a luck factor in your attacks that aren't lancer TP reduction related interrupting, and if you don't see it stop preparing near the beginning of its use, chances are its going to go off, which happens.
Sentinel isnt always ready, Tempered will... 1.5m recast 20s duration, Rampart.... 5m recast, 30s duration, and the fight lasts long enough for these to be down ofthe when he does the skill. Especially at 50% health in his rampage mode.
As a Pugilist I can stand up there with Ogre the entire fight with hardly any trouble. I've got about 2k HP with the full party buff and I think the only time I've died since we figured the fight out was when I got hit with a stun and then a drop after not keeping my health topped off.
You most certainly can evade Inferno Drop, I've done it many times. You can quite often stun Inferno Drop, just do a good amount of damage with weapon skills. It has a pretty long charge time, not to be confused with the elbow drop which has a short charge but only hits in front.
It's really not that bad. Worst case scenario aside from death, you have to back off and heal yourself for a second before going back in.
So, yeah. It sucks to be melee and have to fight something. It sucks when it kills you. But if it didn't hit you, wtf is the point? Why fight something at all if it were easy?
Will stunning it help? Yes.
Will using the right skills help? Yes.
Will using disabling pots and blinding pots help? A whole lot.
Will doing all the things listed in this thread help? Duh.
Will any ONE of them make this fight winnable? No.
Will ALL of them together? Easy as pie.
When my LS goes out, my speed surge (refreshed as soon as cool down is ready, every single time) is enough to keep me at full health. The charge up on inferno drop is so long its easy to stun. Just keep your Leg Sweep in reserve with 1k tp always at the ready. No, this does not fix his spamming four inferno drops happening in a row. Hell, we got hit with this last night. Tank even went down.
And our MRD stepped in and evade tanked the ogre. Yes, you can evade inferno drop. In fact, you can evade it to the point where an MRD with a full EVA build can tank the ogre sans GLA. I couldn't tell you if its hard or easy (I play LNC myself), but our resident "off-tank" main tanks regularly in our LS. And let me tell you, seeing a 90% evasion rate on the ogre is friggin' impressive.
Yes yes, pics or it didn't happen. I'll try to remember and record it when we go out tonight.
Point is, there are plenty of ways to mitigate the problem, and when you use them all, even the spam can be broken through.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Deepvoid Slave fight's mechanics. With enough practice, you should be able to handle every type of unexpected occurrence.
I stand by Ogre fire drop doing too much damage compared to the rest of is abilities. what you can do to interrupt it isn't the point.
Yes but it's also the longest casting TP skill the Ogre use. I find Fire Spit more deadly because it's instant and it usually hit the unsuspecting Healer. Though I believe I absorb Fire Spit once with Decoy.
Also quite sure you can Incap the Ogre to put a full stop to its specific TP move.
If you feel it does alot of damage => get HP gear, up VIT, prepare buffs
If you want to avoid it => Use a duo of lancers repeating the following BR
(LNC1)Pierce, (LNC2)Twisting Vice - Regiment of Constraint
(LNC2)Pierce, (LNC1)Twisting Vice - Regiment of Constraint
LNC is an awesome melee DD.
Downside is you may be watching the fight on your back more often than other melee.
Ogre damage is fine as is.
Hardly as annoying as some of batraals moves and skele moves~ haha
Batraal is a wimp :) his crazy hyper beams are completely avoidable, and all but one of his WS is avoidable, but even that one can miss and be evaded >.>
Reiterate that ive beaten the ogre several times, yea yea. Doesn't excuse the fact that his 360 aoe > damage than all over moves. Imagine if they imbalanced player class skills this way......
