Is it possible to revamp Arcanist?

I honestly don't think its possible. Black mage has the impact spells, and arcanist can't be a buff only class with the pets doing all the work. I hate how the DoT system is. A single target can only have a max of 60 DoT that's fine, but when its the only means to do any real damage its a problem. Especially when your DoT gets lose when a bunch of DoTs is on a target. Maybe if they made the spells like miasma where the target takes damage then gets DoT'ed.

if you want bigger numbers in the log, go play blm. smn can do more than adequate damage.

I'm a pet user so its next to impossible to use any other class for me. But when it comes to CT, ST, or S rank hunts DoT can really annoying when a bunch of are DoTing as well. Also I heard that the dev team may go back and change something on arcanist or revamp the whole thing.

All the jobs are suppose to do the same amount of damage just in different ways. Acn isn't a buff class with the pet doing all the work; it's dot class that has support utility with a pet that does a small percentage of the work. Having spells that do damage in addition to placing a dot just sounds likes an Acn masquerading as Blm. OP, it seems like you're looking for the flair that only Blms can bring.

No, I'm not saying Arcanist is a buff class but if they did it can't be a buff class. The big glaring problem that everyone overlooks is that the arcanist main means of attack is its weakness when it comes to large scale fights like ST, CT, and s ranks hunts. They can't do any damage outside of pets and ruin when too many DoTs are on a single target. If they did change how would they? Because they might change it.

While the limit on debuffs is a little annoying, this is only a potential issue while zerging content that requires no serious DPS checks. We can already skip entire phases on ST bosses in random alliances; how much faster do they really need to die?

Used correctly, SMNs Egi does a substantial part of the SMNs DPS. 300ish from the SMN, 100ish from the egi. Not exactly "a small percentage".

Change in options to only display your status effects/dots on targets.

I think the first few responses are missing the point of his post, they aren't saying that ACN/SMN is bad, but it's currently the only job that will have it's job performance directly impacted in a large single target fight if more Summoners are present. While it's extremely rare to fill enough DoT DPS to hit the 60 cap limit of DoTs on a mob, it still is possible to do so and once this happens the Summoner that is trying to get DoTs on and can't will be unable to do any damage outside of Ruin/Ruin II.

Right now this only really (rarely if ever) happens in CT, ST, popular boss FATEs, and at one point Hunts, but depending on how content is created in the future it could be entirely possible to see more often, some might say the simple solution is to not SMN stack parties however the Duty Finder doesn't discriminate when it comes to picking DPS.

This doesn't work, mobs have a hard CAP of 60 DoTs any more than that will fall off and not apply, whether your not you can see your own DoTs past the visible 30 DoT limit is irrelevant.

I don't follow what you mean by a 'buff' class. Arcanist has all of one buff (Eye for an Eye) and the rest are debuff DoTs. The class with the most buffs is conjurer, but then that's part of their role as healer. Arcanist is a DD first and, at best, a half-arsed healer until they equip Scholar, and even then it's not as much of an improvement as it should be over White Mage, though that Galvanize buff is sublimely obscene. I don't think you understand how to fully use arcanist's varied talents.

Both, Mobs will have 30 visible DoTs unless you change your settings, but you can still apply more and even if they are invisible using Fester will let you know that you have them applied. Mobs do have a hard cap of 60 DoT effects however and anything over that will not apply and fall off.

Once again i believe he meant to say DEBUFF class, as in he feels ACN needs more damage outside of just DoTs in the rare event that a mob hits the 60 DoT cap and no more are able to be applied, essentially at that point a Summoners damage drops considerably as they will only have pets and Ruin II

I know this is off topic, but I would honestly love it if Arcanist, Scholar, and Summoner all just became their own things. Arcanist would remain DoT focused DPS (Obviously compensate their stats gained from the job crystal), Scholar remains the same (Re-work the INT traits to MND ones), and then have Summoner be its own job like Dark Knight is and totally rework it. People who play Summoner now can go to Arcanist with no change, Summoner becomes its own thing, and Scholars have no change.

Closest thing and what I secretly hope for is DRK not having any prerequisites means they'll nix the whole class system and every job will be all separate and whatnot.

In ways SCH is stronger than WHM, especially paired with a WAR tank. Lustrate is much better than benediction. Proper use of pet allows you to switch to cleric and do some pretty decent damage. AE healing isnt as good, albeit can, with CDs top up party pretty fast. Adlo is awesome. Love getting them 2k+adlo crits on WARs! 4k+ shield, time for pewpew! Sacred soil is another excellent ability. Especially for big hits like Mega flare and transition to third phase in turn 11.

SCH for me is a lot more fun and rewarding to play than WHM.

2k crit adlo would be more impressive on a PLD, just saying.

SMN does a lot of dmg. Just cuz dont see those high numbers the blm does, it doesnt means anything. Although I guess we might get some class/job revamps or at least new abilities or change on old one in 3.0.

I was saying if they did revamp the class, but they revamped it in a dumb way where your pet does all of the hard work and you sit in the back buffing party members. That was just me throwing spitting out bad ideas, because I really don't know what a real summon class is. Is it just a class where you summon a beast and it does all of the work or what? FF14 hasn't really shown me what a real pet class is. If they did change the class into something else how would they go about it?

you say it's not gonna happen like you know something we don't. please stop doing this. we don't know what they have planned and we won't know till they are ready to tell us.
personally, I'm still hoping they will nix the whole class system(removing the job crystals) and make all the classes into jobs revamping them into something useful(while keeping the existing jobs ofcourse)

for Arcanist, I would like them to play like the existing Summoner job in this game does and have them change the existing Summoner job to something a bit more like the one in FFXI.

I am 100% absolutely sure Arcanist will not be around if they so choose to make everything separate, as far as "knowing what they have planned", I don't, but I do have a pretty good idea of what they won't.

If they get rid of job crystals and make everything separate I can guarantee you to the HIGHEST freakin' level they won't keep the classes.

From what I heard is that the Summoner class in FF11 was like they just came into a dungeon and did only one thing and that was it. I also heard was that when your pet was out you really didn't do anything at all, so I doubt they would go back to that. The Dev team clearly wants everyone to play a more active role in anything FF14 related.

you're still just speculating. there is no guarantee of this and until it is announced that is all your "guarantee to the HIGHEST freakin' level" is
also keep note that all of the DoH and DoL are classes not jobs therefore they wont be getting rid of all the classes

Yes, this has mentioned several times, and the response is simple: go play FFXI. It's still running. The design team actively decided against this since they felt this type of class was too passive. It wasn't the player character's actions that were moving the story along, it was the player's pet by proxy. Also, the design of the game really doesn't support this type of class. No matter what the summoner looks like, I guarantee the pet will not be active as it was in FFXI, you will have to actually cast spells.

You're right, we can't say. However, even with the mysterious "we can't tell you why DRK has no base class", I'd wager they're not to going to overhaul everything, since that would require significant rework of the existing game.

Ah yes, Dark Knight. I have a feeling it's based on a Job and a sub-Job, which is itself based on a class so to say Dark Knight is classless isn't true. It, directly, is classless but it's levels will still be coming from a class.

Something interesting (to me anyway), I was next to an S-Rank when it popped couple months back on SMN, couldn't get into a party by the time it was pulled, so pushed my DPS as hard as I could through the whole fight and got a paltry 2 allied seals for it. The other day was bored screwing around and unequipped job stone to be a level 50 ACN, cross classed flash, and was flashing enemies and letting topaz carby take over enmity and kill them for laughs when S rank popped in another region. I made it there about 10s before it died, and did one DOT spell and then just spammed flash and got a lot more seals as when I was on SMN DPS'ing my heart out.

I guess that's why hunts never interested me that much.

There is no denying that.
But the unfathomable amount of work/money/time in doing it(in comparison to just keeping it as-is/nixing classes and just having jobs) is BATSHIT insane and I can't see(maybe you can) ANY bright side to doing so.
