I named my original retainer I first hired back in version 1.0 'Enkidu', after my actual character's namesake from the Epic of Gilgamesh (and Gil's green chicken comrade here in ARR for that matter ;)). Which I kept into ARR as well.

My second retainer I named 'Marabella', which is a contraction as well as a play on my real name. ;)

For my 2nd I made a girl retainer. But I like the name and think of her as a Warrior Princess ha!

Aponi, Anoki and Atohi (yup, I was weak and tired of the lack of space).
Those are amerindian names meaning... Butterfly, Comedian and Wood.

The irl friends I'm playing with and myself also named our characters with those kind of names (well, because we like it ^^).

I named my two optional retainers: Iwantmunny and Givemegil.

Hamnet(Midlander), Aman'ji(Moon Keeper), Uramii(Sea Wolf) and Merea(Dunesfolk). I need four retainers for all my crafting and glamour >.>.

I tried to color-code mine with naming conventions.

Crim (Fisherman) - Red (Crimson)
Mei'lou (Pugilist) - Yellow (Mellow Yellow)
Thyst (Botanist) - Purple (Amethyst)
Emer (Miner) - Green (Emerald)

I really hope some retainer name change services come out. I'll keep the naming conventions, they just need to better adhere to their classes.

I named mine Asio. She is a female Dunesfolk Lalafell.

Asio is the species name for the Eastern Screech Owl.

Screech Owl: Megascops asio

On a side note, I originally named my Chocobo StruthioChocobae. No one got it.

(Hint: Struthio is the genus name for the Ostrich. I figured if the chocobo was real it would be related, so I was calling my chocobo by its scientific name.)

Female Miqo'te "Amethyst" and my polite Lalafell Turnip!

I saw a retainer who's name was a long string of A's followed by a few other characters. And no I won't be buying anything from them, I'd pay more for something from a retainer without a 100% alphabet exploiting name or not buy it at all. An alt of mine has a retainer called Abbythemarketcrasher, I don't use that one as much yet as a newer character. But the name is just to let other sellers know what I'm willing to do in certain circumstances.

I try to keep prices at a sustainable level based on market history and current supply. If someone has a bunch of an item for sale and I put one out I'll match the price that very first time. If they then move a wall of items priced just below mine where I will then be selling 0 while my retainer's for sale list fills up... then it's Hammertime.

I'll post the item with descending prices so that I don't have to take a deep cut on every item, but the other person would have to beat the price lower on my 1 lowest priced item at any time to sell anything. They want to move their wall of items well below that and keep them there? That's their right to do so, there's plenty of other things I can sell until prices come back up.

Happy; a male miqo'te miner with a silver tongue: "Ah, just the fair maiden I wished to see. Tell me your heart's desire." He was my original character from beta phase 3. The name comes from Haprimac's Hapri part which pretty much sounds the same as well as being what my ingame friends call me.

Drunky; a male lalafell lancer with red puffy cheeks and bushy moustache. He looks like a (tiny) stereotypical Russian man, just missing the furry hat. He's usually the one bringing me weird crap like rooftops and Ultima necklaces. And he has awesome timing of bringing me stuff related to latest RP sessions to make me and my RP buddy laugh our faces off. ^^ Cheeky bugger.

...yes they are cat puns of Linux distros. I even color coded them to have the look/feel of the OS's logo and what the OS's stigmas are.

Got a little story about my wife's retainer, you see I thought we could change the name of the Retainers you see and each name we did think up it was taken so getting impenitent I just said oh call ABCDEF and get on with the game. Much to our surprise we couldn't but now it's grown on us and now we find it quite comical.

Concieving my character as a Summoner, I tried naming my retainers after Classical elementals. When I first got them, I named the two I had after Salamander and Undine, planning on naming my Chocobo Gnome, Sylph unfortunately being left in the wind. Apparently Someone or someones else had similar ideas and I had to edit it. Changed Salamander to Mander and added my characters surname to Undine.

Eventually I picked up the extra retainers and named thm after the extra pair, with 'thume added after again, getting Sylph'thume and Gnome'thume.

My female roegadyn is named Skalwyb, which means "servant woman". I thought it was appropriate.

My first retainer is a Miqo'te named Y'tama. (Y because that's the same clan as my character himself, and the Tama part is named after my cat.)

After that, I decided to have my characters hire each other, so started making retainers matching the appearance of my other alts, so Y'kayah has a retainer who looks just like my alt Navarre and is named Navakun. (Taking a "-kun" suffix onto the first syllable or two of a guy's name is apparently a common way of forming nicknames in Japanese.)

Navarre in turn has a retainer who looks just like Y'kayah and is named Kayah. ("Kayah" being the personal name portion of the full name "Y'kayah Tia", of which the "Y" part identifies a Seeker clan and the "Tia" part a position within that clan.)

Retainer #1: Midlander Female; Aoifa (After the Celtic Warrior Goddess' alternat spelling), Class Gladiator, Weapon 1 Handed Sword and Round Sheild, Armor: Light Leather Armors (For now).

Retainer #2: Moon Keeper Female; Skadi (After one of the Vanir from Norse Mythology), Class Archer, Weapon Bow (Obviously), Armor: Compleat Foestriker Set.

I currently only have one retainer, a Midlander Hyur named Cadis.

He's named after Cadis Etrama Di Raizel, or "Rai", from Noblesse, an online Manhwa.

My first two retainers were made from my need to have a harem and the second two in the likeness of the other versions of myself that came about from fantasia...
