Tips on Quick Mudra Inputs!

Hello! I seem to deal great damage on my rotation, but I look at other peoples' on videos and see that they cast Mudras way faster than me... I literally have no idea why. I'm using a keyboard and my keybinds for the mudras are my alt + 1 , alt +2 and alt + 3 buttons and my execution is on one of my 2 extra mouse buttons. I'm not sure what I am doing to cast so slow. I heard that latency was one thing, I heard computer performance was another, and I also think that my keybinds might be slowing it down too. Sometimes it goes super fast for all of them randomly, sometimes only two go off fast, and most of the time they go off so slowly it feels like I'm using a macro. Please give me tips! Thank you! :)

My Mudra cast times differ greatly depending on where I am, and the time of day. It's odd.
If I'm at my personal house, I can cast them lightning fast. However at peak times in Coil or something...not so much. It's very disconcerting to have them change all the time.

I don't think there are many tips to give, sadly. I would really like this to be changed however. It seems so...finicky.

For keybinds, I have mine set to Q, E, R, and activated with F. Works great for me.

It's a mix of it being locked to a shared CD and lag, connection and graphical, i failed some mudras because of one reason or another, the game fails to receive the pulsation because of lag and gets the next one, and if you slow down you're basically reducing your damage, but at least you'll cast it.

Yes mudras are very dependent of the lag, same as combo does some times but since it's a 0.5 CD it can be annoying while the other skills usually have a 2.5 sec CD.

if it takes you 2 sec to send/receive a packet to/from server, then it will take you 2sec to be able to cast the next mudra, instead of 0,5sec.
there's not much you can do about it, except use Battleping or WTFas...i don't really know SEs opinion about such programs...but it's stupid that you'd need to pay for extra services, just to be able to play the game, as it should be played.
Why can't SE set up such a network?

imo, it is best to do mudras slow & sure than fail it. My self, yesterday i had experience different cast time of mudra, it sudden slower and then it sudden faster & smooth...and I have to stop for a sec to check where I am at before continues, so I would not recommend do quick mudra

Playing on PS4 and I have mudra delays often, so much that even Raiton is difficult to use within one GCD and Suiton/Huton impossible. I've also had missed mudras even when they loaded meaning failed ninjutsu and from using the ninjutsu reset I got at least 1 sec delay on it.
For a job that need to exploit every bit of cooldown it's really annoying with these delays/lag

Makes me wonder if this is the reason why normal skills have a 2.5s gcd or if this is related to "instant" skills not being actually instant.

It sounds like latency. Just like gathering: If you gather in the same spot as another player, you'll notice you both have a different pace (people are gathering faster than me even when I spam 0 non stop.). The one with good latency will have more hits done during X time.
But it's really like anything else in this game, or online games I guess, if you have better latency you basically have an easier gameplay than someone who doesn't

Skills are client sided, the server realizes you cast a skill much after it started. (and you'll notice that during a lag spike, as long as your skill is not blank, you can cast ti and see the whole animation, but the numbers on your target won't appear until after the lag).

So Mudras should work the same, which means that after hitting your mudra, although you see the animation, it still didn't register to the server, and therefore people with bad latency will take longer to combo, not only Mudra, but any instant skills (and non instant ones as well).

I play from Australia on a US server, the ping in general for XIV is unstable, fluctuates between 250 and 400. (on WoW its a rock solid 180. I do not know why its so weird with XIV)
If i try to cast a Mudra right on the Global Recast as it becomes available, latency will kick in and skip a Mudra input most of the time.
The way i get around this is to press the first Mudra in my intended combo, wait a half second to hear the little 'shing' noise of a buff being applied, then rapidly hit the next 2 Mudras in the combo. I do not know why latency breaks 3 Mudras in a row, but works fine on 2 casts, but it is what it is.

This works for me to get a Mudra combo properly out in under 2 seconds.

I notice this is a big issue. I am able to cast mudras just fine sometimes, then other times one of them wont go off and will mess up the whole mudra chain.
I have also noticed it seems heavily reliant on connection speed, you lag even a little, or have a higher ping they fail to go off sometimes. I tested this theory using macros as well.
I macro'd Huton like this:

/ac Jin <wait..5>
/ac Chi <wait..5>
/ac Ten <wait..5>
/ac Ninjutsu <me>

With the wait..5 the wait timer ends up being .5s and it does work if my connection doesnt lag at all. However, I have only seen the whole chain macro'd like this work ONCE. When I extended the wait to ..7 The chain would almost always go off unless I lagged (which during the free login weekend started happening alot) but using the wait..7 also extends the length of time it takes to cast the ninjutsu. I found that <wait..75> worked the best while it was macro'd and almost always casted successfully.

However, since all of this adds .25s to each mudra action to cast in a macro, I actually do my mudra combos by hand since its just faster. Though even by hand it can still mess up my rotation if I lag and one of them doesnt go off. Which is extremely frustrating in high level battles where I need to dodge and still be able to hit the mudras quickly.

This don't work well at all, there can't be .5 wait it's only units, so 1, 2 or 3 etc.. not 1.5 or 0.4. so it's a bad idea to use it with the jutsus as it makes you lose more time than anything, the .5 wait will automatically be changed to 1 sec wait.

The thing is there is some kind of pre-click function, if you click a skill on CD 0.5 sec before it's ready it's locked for the game and it will cast it when it's ready, so you click the first mudra, the second directly so it's registered, but if the 3rd mudra come too fast it can either not register the 3rd click, or override the 2nd mudra.

lololink already said it, but still going to explain. macros do not work in .x. they only work in whole numbers, so no matter what, you are losing at least 2 seconds using that macro. then there is the chance that it misfires.

I've noticed that sometimes I do mundras super fast and other times not.
I can't explain it, it's a feeling thing, I blamed latency for it but if others are having a similar case then maybe it's a thing?

Also, don't macro mundras, you'll lose DPS and a whole lot of it.
It's convenient but slow, only do that if you're low on keys to press on your keyboard or something.
I used macros and they screwed my ninjutsu more than anything.

I realize its only whole numbers but oddly enough it appeared to work for the others in my LS who also attempted it. When they tried it with <wait.1> timer it took even longer than the <wait..7> to cast. I dont know if its that the system sees the oddball wait time and just bypasses it or what have you, but for some reason it ended up being faster at casting the Combo. Like I stated in my post though, I don't use it anyways because Im still faster at doing it by hand. so whatever.

I have a steady 72-74ms to my server, it hardly ever spikes, the server itself has a 0.1s (100ms) so it means the only delay should be 172-174ms, which is less than 0.5s, yet this keeps happening.

At this point I just slow down a bit to not fail it but that already means a DPS loss.
