Suggestion for ex-pack: sea travel.

I had played a few months on archeage, the game was OK i much prefer final fantasy.

BUT after playing AA i have come to miss 2 things how open and explore-able the AA world was, and the naval exploration.

Both i fell FF would greatly benefit from.
The open world is too much imo to ask as it would require a large rebuild of the current game world, BUT for the new zones its not too much out of the question.

the second thing was the naval exploration and swimming mechanics AA had both of these where great and added a LOT to the game.

I feel if FF added swimming and boats and sea travel it would give the game SO much more.

I hope to hear other peoples opinions on this matter and hopefully some input from the Dev team.

Something I read not so long after I started is that they had to choose between sky themed and sea themed for the expansion and they went with sky, I wouldn't expect anything sea related until another expansion.

Pretty much this

It was stated That they had both Sky and Sea themes planned for expansions but they just chose to go with the Sky theme first.

Ironically, by making it a future expansion... if the game isn't shackled by PS3 support they may be able to do things like your suggestions much more easily. (They already said they "had to keep the PS3 in mind", ie limit themselves, with heavensward ; ; )

I;d much rather have a Space themed expansion myself, nothign too sci-fi (yet) just to see the stars and dungeosn based on astrological motifs, buy hey maybe we'll see that in heavensward

So... kind of like FFXI then? Where 'sky' was the nickname for the floating island which was added in the first expansion, Rize of the Zilart and 'sea' was the nickname given to the weird and wonderful area in 'Chains of Promathia' where shark-type things would come up from below to give chase. Well, and tentacled UFOs... can't forget the UFOs...

That was my first thought too lmao, but i do remember comments about wanting to make some underwater dungeons or something (makes me think of Alzadaal Undersea Ruins from XI) i wish i could find the comments but it was ages ago, either way that probably won't be for like another year - 2 years i imagine.

Fly with close proximity over water and you've got your sea travel :p.

But yeh, in particular the ability to swim could add a nice touch. However, I don't think we'll see it any time soon.

If we get the sea expansion with 4.0 I hope it expands south and west, so we get to visit the South Seas Islands and Doma.

Though I think Ala Mhigo would fit better for 4.0, plus if the sea expansion gets moved to 5.0 we can hope by then PS3 support could be gone and we could have nice things.

If we have to wait that long for sea travel hopefully they at least add swimming before then.

I was wanting full sea travel with your own ships and everything, even naval ship combat with NPC pirate factions, imagine a naval combat against a large group of Pirate vessels and multiple player run ships would need to be brought in to fight them.
If you have played arche age you would know more about what i have in mind with sea travel.

Has anyone played Rune factory, Tides of destiny? I could see a continent added
thats made up of islands seperated by a far distance, with dungeons you have to find
or difficult places to get to. (obviously without the slow traveling of RFToD) we could
have an aether at a big central island, then need to do travel around via ship/large creature/
FC ships/underwater tunnels etc. Would also remind me of Zelda Windwaker or Skies of
Arcadia.

not quite what i meant, in arche age you earn your own personal ship that you sail your self not just a NPC ship that takes you places, the AA sea was teeming with islands and stuff to find.
it had diving and naval combat and all.

Edit, misread some stuff.

i think of we got a sea focused expansion, they'd have to come up with a contrivance to block the established AirShip travel in those areas. Otherwise the whole feeling of setting sail and exploring the uncharted ocean kinda falls apart when you realize that people can simply fly around up there and ignore anything happening below.

Not quite so true if you did the Sahagin dailies. They also told us there is a big sahagin city down there where the queen lives. I'd love to see her.

I just can't see an expansion being done where we get friendly with a Beastman Tribe.
The Daily Quests are pretty cool as a side thing. Something that is happening within the world, but an event that does not apply to the 'commonfolk / inhabitants' of Eorzea. The one they trust is the one adventurer with whom they worked directly with.

If we did get an expansion based at sea, i doubt very much that an underwater aspect would get any kind of real focus. Maybe the initial MS plotline is Limsa Lominsa going all out and obliterating the hostile Sahagins, then using the now free oceans to expand could work.
There is a lot of space within the world for all sorts of lands to come about. I'm not opposed to taking to the oceans to find them, i just don't expect much in the way of content ON that ocean. Theres not really much they COULD do with the ocean, outside of Pirates and Naval Combat involving said pirates. But it'd suck if we all we got out of a whole expansion was a gimmicky Naval Combat system that is toyed with once and then left alone by the players because all the real content is based on land.

I think SE is hoping that the ps3 players eventually start transitioning to the ps4 sometime in the future. Some ps4 price cuts down the line should aid in that. I'd love to see what the devs could do without having to consider the limitations of ps3.
