Of course we can. And we can make others purr as well >OO<
That probably depends on your definition of purring. If it's the strict, biological definition I just saw on wikipedia, I'd say no.
OP you tried pulling their tails? It works like a charm.
*notice avatar*
OP you tried stroking your own tail? It works like a chat.
Surrrre we can!
I purr when I'm happy.
I'm never happy.
depends on the miqo' brain . . . . if we're more like cats inside than we appear to be I guess we could, but for the most part it pretty much just seems like we have tails and ears like cats. So, I would guess that we can't - especially seeing as we can talk / laugh etc.
Only if they also agree that they lick themselves and puke fur balls.

Still gonna be known as "cat people" tho :p Yup, racism on the rise. It's the other "C" word
I always thought that the rolling of rrrrr's in the Miqo'te and Mithran npc dialog was an indication of purr-rattled speech. Kinda like how the sound of a cat's meow rattles with vibration when a cat meows during a purr.
random stuff:
Also, while I am sure its coincidental, the voice I chose in the voice options for male Miqot'e has a slight throaty purr-rattle in the "YEAH" sound of the "cheer" emote.
Maybe those are just Republican Miqo'te
It's shown with the Nunh NPC in Forgotten Springs that he rolls his "R's" when he speaks. this probably could be considered a type of purring. Also if you look at the WIki page for Miqo'te naming conventions, Miqo'te names with "H" in them in certain places, such as "Lihzeh", are pronounced with a "hissing / spitting" sound that ONLY miqo'te can produce properly.
So i think it's safe to assume that miqo'te do share some vocal similarities with cats in that regard. They may not be able to full on purr, but I think they can produce contented throaty chortles that sound like purrs.
Based on NPC dialog, some miqo'te share more traits with cats than others. As others have stated above, the U nuhn rolls his R's in a purring fashion. Then we also see Miah Molkot who hisses and meows. This tells me it's a trait that exists in both Keeper and Seeker families, but is extremely rare. From a biological standpoint, my guess that it is a recessive trait left over from distant Miqo'te ancestors (wild hunters, closer to the evolutionary division where Miqo'te diverged from other cats) that crops up every few generations (like the heterochromia trait).
So to answer your question, yes, some miqo'te can and do purr. Most lack the ability to though.
So following this logic from the Miqo'te naming lore, the "rrr" used by some NPC in words is most likely a form of purr that only Miqo'tes are able to produce.Quote:
The extra aitches we see in names such as “Bhee,” “Kuzh,” and “Pahsh” represent a slight hissing/spitting sound that is made when the name is pronounced by the cat-like Miqo’te. Many of the other races in Eorzea cannot accurately reproduce this sound, so the aitches end up going silent when read (Bee, Kooz, Pash).

tldr - Rock and ROAR!
I wished they would purr but most of all I wish we could move their ears and whip their tails! It would be soo cool, we could display an array of emotes just from the way we turn and twist the ears and snap the tail! Ears full back, crouched over and tail whipping back and forth hehe : D
Whenever I have my avatar take a sleep in an inn in a city to log out, I always give a purr to relax.
I made a suggestion a few weeks back to have static facial "mood" emotes that persist until changed. Racial-based traits would be a nice addition to those. For example if you set your mood to "gloomy" not only would your face appear downtrodden but your ears would be down as well.
The real question is, can they empty their own litter box.
