Why do you guys like this game more than WoW (assuming you do)? Just curious...thanx
i cant buy my class
Better graphics.
It's Final Fantasy.
I didn't forget how to DRG/PLD during the 1.x>2.0 downtime. I forgot how to WoW after a week of 2.0 being up.
More friends here.
Better company legacy.
PvP only in two areas versus anytime you set foot in the wrong city or touch the wrong person.
I didn't play WoW for long, but I can certainly say the general maturity level in WoW is MUCH lower than FFXIV's, and XIV can have se horribly childish people as it is lol. I also feel like the game as a whole is smoother. There are aspects I like about WoW, but nothing that would keep me playing it.
Better atmosphere.
And...
Yeah.
The atmosphere is more relaxed, for one. It's 'allowed' to not be a hardcore raider. World PVP isn't something everyone thinks is teh awesomez. In fact there is none.
Oh. And next expansion introduces flying mounts, whereas WoW is taking them away in the next expansion's content. Food for thought.
The player base isn't separated by those who raid and those who don't giving equal gearing opportunities to everyone. Also class balancing is better here versus leaving something broken for months or having a Flavor of the Month class.
Aesthetic choices, some would say that its graphics but its honestly even if Blizzard used a more modern engine the whole visual choice turn me off. The majority of male races are hideous for player options but in explicably have npc options(thin humans for example) that they don't feel are worth giving players.
I prefer updates that happen more than once "whenever"
Finally I find the story entertaining and enjoyable here, while WoW has moved into incoherent attempt to repeat the same damned arc over and over.
I played WoW til lvl 46 and stopped. I was waiting for ARR to release last year and I figured WoW would keep me busy til FFXIV re-launch.
It didn't.
I hit lvl 46 a month before ARR released and canceled my sub. The WoW community and cartoon graphics were unbearable.
It's hard to explain, it feels like I am my character rather than controlling one.
I love the world, the art style, the story, the music, the characters, and the cute outfits.
WoW has its merits, but I was never a fan of being forced to create additional characters to play different classes and lose all the progress I've made on another character, and it does look a little too cartoon-ey for my tastes. I also really hate the direction of the story. Going back in time, to an ALTERNATE timeline that does not affect the current one and is also not the same as ours to stop the boss from the previous expansion... Tired of all the orcs, and thanks to WoW dragons feel a lot less epic.
Because it's not wow?
GFX, Story, gameplay, cinematics , developer choices, etc.
Mainly I would have to say the GFX, I could never get into the cartoon GFX. Tried to play wild star but just wasn't happening. I didn't pay 2K to build a machine to watch GFX that Saturday morning cartoons put to shame.
1. It's Final Fantasy
2. Better graphics
3. Way better music
4. Battle System more complex
I like both and I play both.
Each has its perks.
When it comes to systems fluidity, lag and general playing speed WoW clearly wins.
When it comes to small group content (seriously WoWs trival dungeon content isn't even eligible for a proper comparison lol) and visuals FFXIV wins.
Also no PvP bullshit is always a + in my book. :P
Can't really compare raiding endgame because I have no experience in FFXIV.
As far as the classes I play are concerned: I disagree. (BLM / WHM)Quote:
4. Battle System more complex
I'd say BLM = Mage and WHM = Holy Priest
Got burnt out from mmos with 72 hotkeys all full with items and skills that it felt more like working a spreadsheet and having to memorize rotations . Funnily enough, those newer mmos with only one hotbar(1-10) felt too limiting.
XIV seems to have the right balance of enough skills without it feeling like a job just going through the skills
I enjoyed wow for many years but XIV has many things I never could have in that game. From character customization to in depth cut scenes to housing to drop dead beautiful graphics, this game just feels like the next step of progression in mmo's. Overall I've encountered a mostly positive community of friends and I can level everything on my main character. They also consistently update and add new content to this game. It feels like my character is constantly growing and I absolutely love it!
It has chocobos.
XIV looks better, and has Miqo'te.
I really dislike the "taking away skills in downleveled content" though.
Soo annoying esp as BLM when it completely changes how you have to play the class.
Scaling the numbers is fine, but taking skills away is just ... ugh.
QFT New WoW models are hideous by comparison.
I never could get into wow becauase it seemed far to cartoonish for my tastes.
They both have something I hate which is rotations but it seems less annoying on xiv, can't say why...
Also, Miqo'tes.
Two things that made me want to play this game
1) I could play any class without making an ult.
2) Male Miqo'te.
Granted the first reason was enough for me to want to try the game. If Miqo'te was female only I would be happily rocking a Roegadyn right now. Sometimes I wish that was the case, but damnit I can't say no to Miqo'te lol.
I stay though because of the community. There's a couple assholes here and there, but nothing compared to WoW. I felt so alone in that game, whereas in FFXIV I'm constantly engaging with people even outside of my FC. That alone will probably keep me playing through the years.
I actually just started up my WoW account again, to see the changes and do the pre-expansion event stuff. It honestly feels... boring now. I mean, maybe that's just because I'm used to the current content so much (I've played since early vanilla until last year). The game just feels a little too detached for itself. This is actually a feeling that has lingered for a long time, even before I quit. By that, I mean that you really don't feel like the character you've created. It's generally never about you, the player, rather that it's about the world around you. You're merely an expendable/faceless and unidentified tool to drive the plot. Even during gameplay, it really feels like that.
The game is designed for moving your camera out as far as you can, which for most players means that your character (and majority of NPCs) is quite small to the terrain. It just adds to the thought that you feel insignificant (overly dramatic word to use here, but still fitting). This is something that all MMORPGs tend to encourage, which is fine, but it can have a negative implication depending on what else is going on.
With FFXIV, you're always the center of attention. You are part of the game world. Due to the class/job system, you become associated with your character you create and so results an attachment. Still, it's quite possible that I've just hit the mindset that I've retired my characters on WoW, and so playing as them just doesn't feel the same.
1. MUCH BETTER GRAPHICS compared to the "OMG WHY THE UPDATED GRAPHICS in WoW is much worse than the old ones" (well u can see all those massive QQ thread on WoW forums lol)
2. JRPG FF, what else?
3. Lorewise, FF is better than WoW's infamous "screw lore, lets just retcon it!"
4. In term of baddies, WoW's baddies is only capable of launching a surprise attack and after that, just waiting or AFK inside their HQ waiting for players to slaughter them, while in FF, baddies never stopped their heinous actions!
5. The all class in one toon system
6. Catgirls
7. A very detailed artworks ingame
World of Warcraft looks like a cellphone game.
I totally agree, there is a vast difference in story telling and incorporating your character into the world.
Although the notion that you defeat Primae all by yourself is a little ludicrous to be honest, in WoW most of your deeds in the end aren't even done by your character. In lore VARIAN (King of the humans) actually retcon-killed the Dragon Onyxia instead of your hero.
Also I have to say the pre expansion quest chain was utterly disappointing.
Kill orcs, kill more orcs, kill EVEN MOAR ORCS... umm... kill big Orc.... go to Varian, grab (as a raider useless) epic and STFU and wait another month for more orcs.
This is pretty much how I felt and I have to admit that my current motivation to play is *0*. I never felt like that after a prepatch.
I played hardcore back in TBC and early WotLK doing most of the server firsts. Back then boss fights like Kael'thas, Vashj, and even Malchezaar pre-nerf were epic fights. Blizzard had to tune down the difficulty in the next expansions to cater most of the player base. The fights aren't challenging anymore unless you have a guild that runs heroics.
In ARR, the dungeons are very challenging. I enjoyed the steep difficulty curve after Brayflox. Primals and coil gave that epic feeling that was similar if not better than the TBC dungeons. I look forward to what SE has to offer in the next patches/expansion.
There are many things I like about this game more than Wow but I will touch on a major one that is not negotiable and effects all my other choices in a game. For me, Wow has never even been an option because of the graphics and character design. Those things make or break a game for me no matter how great the other content is so that has kept me from considering the other things that Wow may or may not have to offer me.
I love both but WoW feels very lifeless to me now, and like it's stuck in the stone age.
They gave me 7 days free game time so I logged on to check out their pre-expansion event.
It was literally just " go kill 10 ogre's"
I played WoW once years ago for about an hour... and frankly, it left me wondering exactly why that game had 9 million subscribers and was regarded as the pinnacle of MMO design. It bored me to tears. I didn't feel like there was an epic storyline grabbing me into the world, unlike FFXIV or even FFXI, which I admit, is the main reason I play RPGs, especially the FF series (I guess that's also the reason I prefer JRPGs to WRPGs - they usually have a greater emphasis on story instead of personal character building).
And that doesn't even mention the ugly graphics (FFXI's 13-year old PS2 graphics are light years better than WoW, and that's saying something!), the awful customer service from Blizzard, and the utterly terrible player community. This is not a 'drag WoW's name through the mud' rant though - I just feel FFXIV ARR is a far superior game in every way.
Or maybe I'm just biased, being a FF fangirl and all (and a Legacy member too). ;)
For why I dislike WoW, Warcraft as a thing is pretty much Generic Western Fantasy. Suffice to say, I find it hard to find interest in those settings - I find Lord of the Rings boring, I find Forgotten Realms generally boring, and Warcraft is only about a shade away. And for a genre where you're supposed to dive in and immerse yourself in the world for days worth of time, a setting I'm not interested in means a game I'm not interested in.
Final fantasy often took the place of friends and family for me [mostly by choice^^] and was what i grew up with... characters that de elop, characters that you feel.
Hear, think, feel. .
That's what it's all about with FF and they captured that immensely in this game.
Wow was just as someone else said... u control ur character... u are not being your character
FFXIV has more than 1 patch a year.
I will always be a Final Fantasy fan. WoW just doesnt do it for me. I dont like the cartoony graphics.
The only thing I think WoW seems to do better is PvP, but you have to remember that WoW has been around for a decade, so they had a lot of time to 'get it right' regarding that area of gameplay. Still, some complain that it is stale because it has (mostly) remained the same for so long. The biggest hurdle FFXIV faces in PvP is the lag of abilities. The overall class balance is nice... they just need to figure out how to reduce the delay even more than they already did the first time. I hope they come out with more large-scale PvP activities, and more incentives to do them (queues are discouraging). I *DO* like that FFXIV has three separate PvP factions. It makes things interesting.
Anyway, what I LOVE about FFXIV compared to other MMOs... The story. It really drags me in. I'm not often a fan of "You are the one hero and must save the world" stories -- I prefer a more relatable scenario, but FFXIV seems to do this one well, because it incorporates the fact that there are other Warriors of Light. It is downright impressive that SE comes out with a new, unique, produced song for every primal (although I wish they'd get a little more creative with coil songs... the same default song for a year is getting pretty rough).
As far as other things... weekly caps and lockouts, etc. That is pretty standard across many MMOs, FFXIV and WoW included, so that's really not a point of reference. And finally, the FF community, to me, has always been more friendly and familial than WoW. I'm not saying there aren't mean FFXIV players or nice WoW players, but my experience has been the way it is, and I suppose I'm a little biased because of my 'rose tinted glasses' memories from FFXI.
For me it's story telling. Ya there is a story in WOW but almost no CS, Read this and that. But almost no CS.
I played 1/2 way through BC and stop.
Cartoon graphic is a big thing.
That being said I did love how the world was all connected without zones everywhere.
Ability to be any class on one character. At least with that, if I go with my friends and something I could use for an upcoming job drops, I'm on the right character.
There isn't a huge split in the playerbase of people screaming "Alliance!" "Horde!" and how different things affect each faction differently.
There's more added to the story that someone not raiding in statics can attain (Barring Coil). In WoW, you HAVE to do a raid to get story, and even then it's sparse. You also can learn the FULL story with one character, not have to have a raiding character in both factions.
-Better storyline
-More interactive combat system
-Only need 1 character to play all classes
-Better graphics and music
-More mature community
-Could be wrong, but I feel like theres soooo much more to do in XIV
-It's Final Fantasy (a franchise I love)
For me it has to be the story telling. I play games for the story and the world. If the game cannot deliver then I don't want to bother with it.
When I tried WoW during BC, I remember reading their wiki and then pausing. All of the lore was presented so terribly. It's like I needed a flowchart to just keep track of it all.
When I played XI I never had that problem.
Now, when I play XIV I don't have that problem either. I love that the story is presented well and it is very engaging.
I like that I matter to the world. I'm not simply one of many- as it is in WoW, I'm the Warrior of Light yo! I remember sticking around for WoTL and the "cs" for Death Knight (or whatev) and literally... I carried the flag. That was it. It's so underwhelming! D:<
Also, the fact that there is no open world PvP is a HUGE in my book.
If XIV had open world PvP I wouldn't be playing XIV right now. It's why I'll probably never try AA.
It was a nightmare in WoW having to constantly deal with ganking while leveling up.
Not all MMOs have to have PvP in it, and certainly they don't have to have open world PvP.
Then there are the rather pretty graphics, soundtrack, memorable NPCs, combat, the 1 character to rule them all, a certain degree of maturity~
I just wish that SE would fix some of the glaring clipping issues and give us back our butts. Then we'd be golden XD!
Why I like this better then WoW.
Graphics
Music
Theme
Chocobos I guess
Potential for longer relevant life. The game is newer so it is a better investment of my time then going back into a decade old game.
Outside that this game is the WoW experience but with a FF skin. All the good and all the horrifically bad at the same time.
