Good idea to have mining/botany retainers while working on my first 50?

Just wondering if, since I'm still working on my first class at level 22, it'd be worth it to have my retainers gather mats for later. Or would there be some detriment to this?

This would not work as your retainer can only gain levels in class you yourself have leveled, for example in order for your retainer to get to level 20 as miner you need to have leveled miner to level 20. Also your retainers (miner/botany) can only gather mats that you yourself have gathered.

doesnt botanist/miner/fisher retainers cap 5 levels under ur botanist/miner/fisher levels?? unlike if ur retainer is Dow/Dom caps same level as urs?

You might be right, as I'm not sure since I had all my gathering classes at 50 when I leveled my retainers.

Yes, until your character gets 50 in that class.

best thing to get ur retainers to gather would be shards since u can run out pretty fast :P

Plus, your own mining or botany skill needed is minimized, because shards are a lvl 1 item, and your retainer can gather shards, which can help fund your character while leveling up.

Shards go for around 150 apiece on my server at least. minimum geared retainers can collect 20 an hour. 3000 gil per hour is nothing to scoff at at low levels, although the numbers get bigger at higher levels.

retainers shard amounts gathered vary depending on the gears?? ive just ben throwing rubbish equips to them so thier gathering is high enough to do the explorations lol guess i have to gear them better to gather shards more effectively XD

I believe once you equip them with basic gathering gear, they go from getting 20 shards an hour to getting 60 shards an hour. haven't tested minimum amount of equipment, but lvl 10 gathering gear gets 60.

Additionally, at a certain point the time needed for getting 60 shards goes from 50 mins to 40 mins. not sure when that baseline is.

my retainers currently are 60 shards in 40mins for that reason i changed all 4 of my retainers to miner/botanist (240 shards/40mins) lol just to help with shards while im leveling crafters lol so more or less at best output atm then?

most likely.

However, just as a tip, you probably want one of the four to be a battle class. There are a lot of things that only battle classes can get (primal weapons, lw skins), and 60 shards/hr extra output isn't worth losing out on those items.

yeah its just to help with levelin crafters then ill go back to 3 -1 xD since i always seem to be extremely low on wind shards n dont get enough time to farm as much as i want :(
