They're expensive, and barely better than Ehcatl Smithing glove if you meld them to max (3 CP advantage, other stats identical).
On the bright side, you can easily max-meld NQ mitts to the same stats as max-melded HQ mitts for less than the price difference between the two:
• Control +4 (safe slot)
• Control +3 (safe slot)
• Control +3 (safe slot)
• Craftsmanship +4 (30% chance)
• CP +1 (20% chance)
...
They're a little unsettling though...

To be fair, going from max-melded ilvl 55 class-specific crafting gloves to Ehcatl Smithing Gloves gave me 3 Control and took away 3 CP. This threw my ordinary 3 star routine into disarray as I was 2 CP short of running it, so I had to swap out a Basic touch for a Hasty Touch again. A single Tricks of the Trade (and subsequent Hasty -> Basic Touch replacement) would restore balance to my CP, making it a decent choice on average. Getting those 3CP back permanently with the Artisan Mitts is actually a very welcome addition as it solves the issue entirely, but these gloves don't help *at all* to reach the minimums for 4 star crafting.

To be honest I think we got gyped 1 craftsmanship and 1 control for each of these pieces. Check this out:
Patrician..(i50) 3 craft 32 control 3 cp
AF gear...(i55) 4 craft 36 control 3 cp
Artisan....(i60) 4 craft 39 control 3 cp
Guess craftsmanship and control don't scale linearly with ilevel =/ -
