It is a very bizarre fight...
What IS the mechanic? I ran it the day it came out, and me and my party could not figure it out, and we tried every thing we could think of, to the point of ridiculousness...
Pretty easy.
Phase 1: DPS will be turned into imps, all imps should stand in front of Ultros (along with Ultros tank) when Ultros uses Aqua Breath or whatever it's called all imps will get stacks, then when Typhoon goes to the middle and starts charging his mega sneeze all imps should use their special attack (in the pet hotbar) on Typhoon to deplete his stacks, Typhoon has 8 stacks I believe, so each DPS should get at least 2 stacks from Ultros to nullify the attack.
Phase 2: Same as phase 1, but with a counter-clockwise rotating breath coming from Typhoon, main tank should be moving ultros around the border to avoid the breath, while DPS do the same as Phase 1.
Phase 3: Kill them, the only thing you need to worry about is when Typhoon goes to the middle, he will sneeze around 4 times, everyone must go to the middle so they aren't thrown out of the arena.
Note that for phase 3 there's some RNG involved, the sneeze attack could happen at the same time ultros summons his tentacles, in that case it's an unavoidable wipe
Was definitely the most WTF fight i've ever had in FF14.
Liked it :)
I had to log off for the emergency maintenance before I could do the fight.
I am a bit sad that Gilgamesh considers me an enemy, though.
Ahaha. Wow, we had about half of the equation at one point. We tried so many ridiculous things, just to list a few:
1. Imps should attack Typhon when he charges his breath attack (this is where we were half right, we didn't know about Ultros).
2. What if the imps try attacking the healers and tanks and turn them into imps too!?
3. What if someone jumps off before Typhon uses his instant kill?
4. WHAT IF WE ALL JUMP OFF?!
5. What if the imps attack Ultros and try to turn him into an imp?
6. What if we fave Ultros and Typhon away from each other?
7. Face them at each other?
There were more attempts, but I can't recall everything we did.
what drops after this is it just the 1 minion?
I want to see Titan get knocked off his platform by the sneeze.
I completely agree with this being the most enjoyable fight for me so far in 2.4. The quest line was just as amazing (I think I had to resurrect myself several times just from dying of laughter), and this just blew me and the parties I ran with away.
I'm curious about something though: has anyone ran into anything different with this fight with female party members? What about female tanks? I'm just asking considering Ultros' character...
A few more things to note.
Ultros and Typhon will equalize their hp if one takes to much more than the other. So focusing on one or the other doesn't do much until they both reach 10%. A wipe happens when all characters are Dead, inflicted with the 4 Tonz Weight special stun or off the platform.
Phase 1: There are only 3 Aquabreaths (90 degree forward cone aoe that gives Imped characters Wet Plate) with before Typhon Snorts after the dps get Imped. Ultros alternates between Aquabreath and Megavolt (Large circle aoe centered on ultros).
Phase 2: Ultros starts using 4 Tonz Weight (Small circle aoe attack that does a special stun) against 4 targets.
Phase 3: Typhon's 4 Snorts don't require everyone being in the center to dodge. Being halfway to the center and moving towards the center can prevent a ringout.
Yep.
Also for those that might have missed it... examine the floor textures... bit of a throwback there hehe.
...have no fond memories to speak of, so I might be a tad biased here. But seven hells I've ××××in' hated every second of that fight. Gilgamesh? That was fun. This though? Just...no. Keeping my distance from it as much as I can for sure.
