Please close the female DRG AF's belly window, SE. It's been ridiculous for long enough, and now it's just become fodder for people that think the female DRK AF is going to be just as bad or even worse.
Fodder for idiots you mean. DRG AF is literally the only AF gear that is even slightly different between Male and Female.
Know what the difference is? The Male DRG wears a chainmail undershirt. The hole is still there. That is literally the only difference.
I fail to understand these people who think that of all the Jobs we have, 1 has a TINY difference and that means DRK will be a plate bikini for females. (Its not like WAR/PLD females don't already glamor bikinis onto their plate anyways. lol)
To be honest, I'm not really against the window (or for it, for that matter). I was just disappointed that after wearing so many nice types of scale-mail while leveling the DRG AF took away one of the biggest things I liked about scale armors.
The hole being there makes sense when you consider what a DRG does, and when you look closely at the armor itself.
Zoom in on it, you will notice that the area surrounding the hole is ribbed, which is in turn connected to a chain 'shirt' before going up to the shoulder area. A Job that jumps a lot would need a lot of flexibility in the stomach region. In my opinion, the ribbed armor and the hole reflects that.
The leveling scale mail armors are similar in that they appear to be quite flexible. So it really isn't such a weird thing.
I'm not concerned about how it works, I just liked the way the stomach armor looked. >_>
I'm all for gender equality when it comes to gear where appropriate. No "buts" attached. Matching the female variant of DRG AF to the male variant would be a good example of that.
Don't forget... DRG isn't meant to tank. DRK is. So, I doubt they'll have any really revealing legitimate pieces of armor for DRK. If they do, I'll be surprised. People forget how restricted tanks used to be with appearance -- before glamour, that is. Remember the tin can darklight gear, or the allagan or even high allagan gear? Yeah, some pieces had a chain or scale 'skirt', but that's actually a legitimate armor type.
I'd like to see the addition of a toggle that allows you to switch between models on gear that is different on male and female characters. I wouldn't mind seeing that stomach hole, or even the generic 'kecks' style pants with the short-shorts under the chaps on a male character...and one of the things really stopping me from rolling a female alt is knowing that there is no escape from the miniskirts.
But then it's not identical, it's different, which is the opposite of identical.
The hole in DRG armor is what lets all the magic damage through
No.
/10 char
Nope. It does not "need" to be closed at all.
PLD AF armor doesn't HAVE to be uniform and could instead look like this for women: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A8DauRTvih...mailBikini.jpg
However, there should be SOME accounting for good taste and practicality. A Chainmail undershirt could very likely prevent a mortal stabbing wound right to the trachea. I mean, unless you're saying women don't deserve to wear chainmail to protect an exploitable weak point in their armor. Then that's a different issue entirely.
The scale piece on the male version of the set looks cool and kinda makes sense. It still looks reasonably protective but it allows for flexibility around the waist, which is important if you're, y'know, constantly hurling yourself into the air and landing.
That said, it's doubtful that they'll go back and change this. I've said it before: They should just learn from it, and if they absolutely must make something "sexier" on girls, to consider it better. The leotard that female DRGs in FFXI had actually looked pretty good.
How about adding the hole to male's armor? Now everyone is equal.
I'm all for closing that annoying hole. The bare neck I can handle, but not the stomach. I actually wasted a lot of materials on making the dragoon set augmented. I had seen some pretty dyed dragoon gear and was all "must have!" but when I equipped it.... I remembered why I had glamoured lvl 30 gear instead of the AF stuff.
It's a shame, it looks really good on males. But I don't really want to go through the trouble of leveling dragoon on my male alt just because I can't handle bit of bare belly. .__.;
No it doesn't. And it shouldn't. If we wanted to be all realistic about this armor nonsense the mages should be decked out in maces and chainmail like the clergy of medieval days. And dyeing armor pink would be a death sentence.
You have plenty of armor choices before and after the drachen, to suit multiple standards of taste. And some of us like the look besides. Get over it.
I think a better suggestion would be to toggle it.
Perhaps some of us like the look of the lack of chain-mail and exposed abs. I know I certainly do.
Rather than remove or replace, I'd say more options for everyone!
If you're gonna bring up the "Realism" card then let's be honest here, the DRG armor as a whole is an abomination to actual effectiveness in the real world.
I thought it was some kind of troll but... I agree with this.
You mean fictional armour on fictional characters in a video game that most of which is pure fantasy and cannot possibly exist in the real world? Practicality is almost as bad an excuse as trying to justify your dislike by using the "it's not realistic". More than half the women and not just men on female avatars I actually play with choose to glamour their items to look like short skirts, soft and squishy dresses, halter tops and belly showing armour and such by choice even when running dungeons because they think it looks 'cute' so your preference for what you deem fashionable, in good taste or ideal is not the benchmark of which everyone else must comply with.
If wanted practicality or realism then more than half the existing gear in the game would fail that standard including the very armour you do not like and not just because of the tiny gap around the belly either since even without that gap it would still not be practical or realistic. It's funny how dresses made of cotton and wool, leather and such is somehow immune to bursting into flames when hit by a fire spell or does not get cut to shreds when sliced and diced by enemy claws and blades, spikes and such on armours not slicing your throat open when turn your head or impaling yourself all the time when jump or run, sit down or dance, armour and weapons so heavy or big that 'practicality' and 'realism' goes flying out the window despite the fact that armour might cover your belly button or when bombs explode your legs do not fly off even though wearing light armour...
As said earlier the only thing that matters is you have the freedom to change it if do not like how it looks, you already have that freedom creating a male character for the male version, using the gender change potion if can't be bothered to level a male one...even wearing a different armour or glamour change the one you do not like to one you do. But sorry this 'realism' or 'practicality' nonsense can sod off and I have no patience for it being used as an excuse because it's nothing more than a load of hogwash regardless of how harsh I may sound about it.
I agree with OP. I never liked the stomach showing, I wish there was a way to close it.
Uh...the armor being scaled kind of already takes care of the "flexible armor" problem.
Ultimately, there is just no logical way to justify bare skin in combat armor. Cotton cover would be better than bare skin. If she ran past a branch and it skimmed her belly, now she's bleeding.
Not that i have a huge problem with female dragoon armor, FFXIV does a very good job at managing practicality over style. But it always sounds silly when people try to justify extremes of the latter.
Better yet remove male and female characters. Add robots instead.
>Topic about giving men and women the exact same gear options regardless of how practical or skimpy a piece of armor is.
>Suggesting turning everyone into unisex drones as if gender uniformity in gear removes any and all shreds of creativity from the game.

Double-standards in gear just don't make sense. There's a wealth of gear options out there, why make a special variant one gender or the other?
No thank you. I love that part about the armor.
stop these silly threads
Isn't that Glamouring were made at the scope to change appearance of the armor piece you don't like?
I'm quite sure if I go next fan fest and tell the art team they must change an armor used by 1,000,000 players, because I don't like something on it, will triggers a massive Facepalm skill by all people present and hearing that.
okay to you and all the other people talking about the female armors i just got this to say
IF YOU DONT LIKE IT TO PLAY A MALE CHARACTER end of point dont like the armor then change it for urself ~_~
ps if you dont like it THEN USE GLAMOR IF U DONT WANT to change ur character to male im sure theres another piece of armor u like in the gear so make ur armor look as that is ~_~
id love to have a cosplay dragoon suit i always love showing my stommy whats wrong wit that ;p
The actual point of the thread is that female DRG AF (and Ninja AF, dammit SE) should not be used in discussions about why females should not get their own version of the DRK AF.
But I still want to get ribbed stomach armor because I'd like to glamour in that body piece instead of glamouring it out.
Maybe not really? Rokien just liked to complain that FFXIV wasn't like other MMOs that he played. I'd just like to take away one piece of "evidence" that people seem to think means female DRK AF is going to be skimpy, while also getting that ribbed stomach armor look that I like so much on armor that I otherwise like so much. By the way, I'm not under any illusion that I'll get my way; I just don't want the people that don't want a female version of DRK AF to get their's either. So, less Rokien and more straight-up trolling, I guess. <_<
Well
at least the gods forsaken QQQQQ ATMA, QQQQQ COIL TO HARD, QQQQQ COIL TO EASY, QQQQQ I DON'T WANT TO HAVE THEM WHAT I HAVE have stopped for a while with this.
You know what you never go full? YOu just did go full of it.
That hole on a females stomach is so she can blind the foe with reflecting light. No. Srsly. Have you ever seen how shiny female stomaches are inside of dragoon armor?
While that person is seriously bad at typing and quite frankly annoys me too in that regard...that in itself is not a valid excuse to disregard a persons opinion anymore than using a grammar nazi approach. As for not understanding, you are hardly one to point fingers based on your lack of understanding in the other thread about the topic on armour and specifically my reply to you within it. :p
