When? Where? How much? I must plan for these things!
If you must plan for it, assume something outrageously high like $100 and early like March 2015.
expect more like late May to mid-June.
I'm expecting up to $120, I just need to know when it starts so I can put down the reserve at my local Gamestop. The earlier the better.
If they're still planning on keeping this in line with their three month between major content patch goal, expect this to be around the beginning of May. Three months from 2.4 would place 2.5 around end of January.
Still not JUNE though, lol. And given their habitual development cycle and the need to generate revenue, March is the most likely since it's a time that Japanese college and high school students (a huge demographic for games) will have the free time to purchase and play games.
Therefore, all things being equal unless something big comes down the pipe (like another high profile release SE doesn't want to compete with) some time in March is the most likely month for the expansion's release.
I hope there's a physical disk for it. I can not tell you how much I hated how Adoulin was released outside of Japan in XI... no single disk, either the new-new-new-new collected edition for PC or 360 or PC digital download. I didn't play on the PC nor 360...
I wouldn't expect the expansion to cost more than the client, which was like $40 or $50. No expansion in XI ever cost more than the client.Quote:

they're also talking about pre-order bonuses and statues, not to mention the Japanese penchant for buying physical copies to "collect". There'll be a physical version, no doubt.
Also where are people hearing that there will BE a 2.5? I mean we can assume there'll be a 2.45, 2.48, maybe even a 2.43, but I've seen no indication of a 2.5 anywhere.
Will they be discounting the expansion, since it doesn't include all expansion content? (Since some will require cash shop purchase?)
Well if SE said spring 2015 i would expect it as late as possible like everything else they announce ahead of time. Last day of spring is June 20th so sometime in mid june.
There is usually 7 month between major raid patches. So most likly May.
They have already said the expansion will be out in April '15, so I would also start looking end of Feb/March at the earliest.
Well when I hear "spring" in itself I don't really include June as spring since that is the same month that summer starts.
Also, looking at it at a business perspective doing it in May is when most college students have major projects due and they won't have time to buy/play the expansion. April is "Spring Break" at least in the USA. I would imagine Heavensward will release in April 2015.
PS4 FFXIV ARR was launched on April 14th 2014 which is of course when spring break is. If I had to put my money on any launch month in spring, it would be April.
I just plan on pre-purchasing the digital version, then upgrading to CE a month later. Which is what I did when ARR launched.
To the best of my recollection SE never charged more then $30 for an expansion. I suspect that this will be the case for 3.0. Late May sounds about right for release.
I always had a gut feeling it'd be end of Jan or start of Feb (no logical reason, just FELT right to me personally for some reason) so I'm hoping it'll be March sometime. Then again, thinking about when the Moonfire Faire came out this year, they still consider the last few days of the season (was it even still Northerner's Summer then? Or already Autumn? I don't remember now) to be part of the season for release purposes so knowing my luck it'll probably be the last week XD
Edit: As for price, a good figure alone can cost AU$300. The standard version would probably be less than $50 but I'd expect the CE to be around the $150 mark. Also, EB is pretty good at getting in CE packs (at least here in Australia, assuming the game as a whole makes it here). Maybe if your GameStop doesn't have it check out EB.
Collector Edition please =)
We shall know more after the JP Fan Festa.
2,1 : 12/17/2013
2,2 : 03/27/2014 :=> (100days, )
2,3 : 07/08/2014 :=> (103days )
2,4 : 10/28/2014 :=> 112days )
following that keeping patchs on tuesdays
2,5 : 02/10/2015 (105days )
3 05/19/2015 (105 )
for 3.0 be in march they need to shorten 2.4 and 2.5 to less than 77days each,(154days between 10/28/2014 and 03/31/2015) almost 1month faster than " habitual development cycle "
You are assuming there will BE a 2.5. Where is this evidence? The current storyline seems to segue directly into what we know about Heavensward (2.4=Ishgard, 3.0=Ishgard) and other than the usual "2.45/2.48" level content introductions they've been talking about, there's been no indication of 2.5 being in the works.
154 days wait for something that's going to be, in their words, about the same size as 2.0 was in it entirety, seems reasonable enough to me.
Every expansion for FFXI cost $30 when they came out to my knowledge so I'm really hoping it won't be more than that. I'd be quite pleased if it was actually less.
Yoshi-P has said in the NA Fan fest that Golden Saucer- ( which will have minigames like Chocobo Racing) will also have chocobo breeding etc. And they will come at 2.5 ( also seeing Yuigri's face at 2.5). Yes this basically confirms 2.5 is being worked on.
However, I still hold onto April being the release month for Heavensward.
From the live letter (courtesy GamerEscape (http://gamerescape.com/2014/10/19/fi...cer-live-blog/) :
They've said repeatedly that 2.5 will happen.Quote:
Matt: Will we see a turn that requires an alliance fight Bahamut?
Yoshi P: That’s a really good idea but getting 24 people together to do something that difficult… On the other hand we have something coming up in 2.5 with the Crystal Tower… and in the expansion there will be more alliance based raids. That’s all I can say.
