Goodbye DoH/DoL old AFs

With the introduction of Artisan and Forager gears in 2.4, think this would effectively replace all DoH/DoL gear we've been building so hard from scratch.

Good news is:
More armoury space saving. Each DoH/DoLs are now represented in just one gear set.
And for you fresh crafter/gatherer, you'll save the hassle of making each DoH/DoL old gear set.

Bad news:
Now you don't feel very distinctive on each DoH/DoL classes. Each set kinda has cool looking style. Now we kinda have to stare on just one set from now on, but only until you need to craft those new 4* recipes.
Also, all your hard working meldings feels wasted since you might no longer see the use of keeping them around aside for vanities. Plus there's that never-ending space issues.

There's just one thing I notice that's kinda questionable:
The preliminary patch 2.4 notes kinda doesn't list the body gear equivalent of DoH/DoL. Does this mean we can still keep using them for time being?
Or the prelim notes kinda missed this part??
Or... I just mis-read it? lol

Overall, what do you guys think?

I usually only switch to a gear set to make something, not for looks
So im personally happy I can replace them all with one set fits all.
More than a welcome change IMO

Also the prelim notes don't have everything in it, as some have pointed out in other posts, some additions comin aren't in the notes, so no doubt will be added with full

The notes did list a Forager's Vest, but no artisan equivalent. I'm leaning towards the idea that the we get to keep or DoH body piece, simply because I used all my gold dye on them and don't want to just throw em away now. :P

I really liked the look of some of the AF sets, like weaver or carpenter, but hated others, like leatherworker or blacksmith, so I'm neutral on this until we get to see what the artisan gear itself looks like.

I'd just like to know if the artisan/forager gear is untradeable or not. that's all.

Glamour is your best friend. Could glamour it to look like old sets which I still really love.

I'm sure this is less problematic for DoL set which only has 3. DoH on the other hand, has 8, and all of them IMO have cool designs. :?

I would be surprised if the gear is untradable. I will be glad to have only one set but will miss some of the old sets. I would assume as a crafter we can make and sell these sets. What concerns me is that they are i60. The i70 beast tribe gloves have the same stats as a full melded i55 set. The only way it would be better as I look at it is if we can meld them. The i70 off hand looks to be a big change, same as going from the i55 main to the i70 main. I hope to see the patch notes soon and if they have gear stats though I am guessing we get to wait on that. I have looked at 4 star crafting. I am still guessing from patch 2.2 that the new numbers will be around 800 progress or higher and 9000 quality. I guessed this from how 1 star, 2 star and 3 star increased. I hope I am wrong on the progress number as that will not be fun unless there is a lot more CP added and inner quiet stacks are upped.

Unfortunately, each item can only have one glamor. If you glamor weaver body onto new i70 body, only weaver will get the benefit; all others will look like the new i70 item because they can't wear weaver (so can't be seen in the glamor'd item).

oh... that news to me. Kinda sucks though. Kinda wish at least that ALC body can be used for all DoH class. oh well... ^^;

Sounds like all the time spent creating the gear plus getting the materia required to meld onto the gear is going to (potentially) have been a waste now with the new stuff.
I would have preferred the ability to upgrade my gear along the lines of augmentation material or Relic Weapon. Why can someone that is just getting into the game have gear that is better/equivalent to the gear I spent months getting? Not saying they shouldn't have the ability to catch-up, but it should not be better in anyway

Easy. That's one way to prolong MMO live, making ppl sacrifice stuff & time. Not the first time and certainly won't be the last. lol

I've been sporting a fully melded patrician set since melding each individual class would've cost a fortune. So I'm looking forward to the upgrade.

That's actually depends on you though. I do main-ed full patrician set for awhile until I can make my own HQ DoH individual gear sets. And I kinda practically meld those mostly from spiritbonded effort. Think I spiritbonded countless of patrician and accessories set for that.

Of course, by this time, it's not really a good thing to do that anymore perhaps. I do enjoy my individual, near-max melded DoH gears for months, which lead to my small attachment to those.

Just have to see what happens next after patch went up.

why would you think that this gear wouldn't need a max melded crafter to create?? plus also atleast initially these will be really expensive to buy assuming they are tradable so newly levelled crafters wont be getting these sets very quickly.

plus they will still have to do ixal quests for the gloves and then craft for the glasses and spend even more gil to get supras if they aren't willing to craft for them. which means they will have to earn millions of gil someway to be able to catch up.

for those new 4* crafts I can only imagine a combination of supra and new off hand is not enough to get a reasonable chance at hq and so the new set will probs be meldable. which means if they are meldable materia will skyrocket yet again because all the top crafters will be buying it over the next few weeks or months meaning that new crafters will be locked out even further on trying to catch up. there just not worth worrying over tbh

plus anyway most top tier crafters have been using af sets for a long time now and so have easily gotten there gil's worth out of them. and I bet nearly none of them were to concerned when we got the new dodore set to craft and meld, actually I bet they pretty much just got it done in an hour after the mats were available.

Its called wishful thinking haha !!!

Lets hope they don't screw over our Dodore sets too =D

I feel bad you must attach new material to your gear now, but there's chance they bring you the new UNMELD option, then life is made LoL

I posted in the other thread, but I almost feel like Yoshi P and the Dev Team will just use this as a stepping stone and make us jump through hoops similar to our Main Hand Tool:

* (Current Crafting Gear "AF") -> Artisan's Gear -> (in 2.5) "Surprise!" (Crafting AF Gear "Supra" Head, Body, Hands, Pants, Feet) :(

I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did (and THAT "Supra" Crafting Gear Set would require Tier V Materia to meld (oh joy)).

Now I have even more interesting question for you

Will the patch change melding caps for gear ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

They will still be a source of materia, which if 2.4 prelim notes are indicative, will be very much in demand due to the new crafted DoHL gear assuming they have materia slots.

So, no, I do not see these being as obsolete or unwanted unless yu have no use for materia.

Retainers can only do DoW/DoM/DoL, can't do DoH, unless you just literally means having them store the gears for you. lol

You can already remove melds on those goblin NPC at Central Thanalan, though you will lose the materia.

Let's just cross our finger. Those militia wrist gear for DoH & DoL did get a raised melding cap in 2.3.

The full patch notes just recently published, and there's still no Artisan body counterpart, or at least none that I can found. At least DoH bodies still save for now.

DoL on the other hand, confirmed has the body version. Well... at least I would've glamour my miner body over it. ^^;

I really hope they missed it in patch notes cause if not the armor will be so ugly mix and match ; ;
