Opinions on the level cap

Just wanna get a feel of what everyone thinks, and this is probably a ways off.

would you rather they raise the level cap once there's content for the level cap (50 to 60 with new content at 60)

or would you rather see them add things to do AT the level cap (more level 50 dungeons,armors, maybe alternate systems placed on top of the character instead of leveling)


personally I'm in the latter camp since a lower cap makes newer players feel less behind. But i do know XI is intending to ramp it up to 99 if they havent already.

I never cared for level cap raise, so I'd rather see them add endgame content without raising the cap.

Unfortunately it normally get raised for marketing reasons more than for gameplay reasons.

Level cap is fine where it is atm, it is eventually going to gradually raise upwards.

I don't think it needs to be raised any time soon. In the mean-time there should be a "Merit" or a "Title" system so you can keep improving your character, even at level 50.

Leave the rank cap at 50 for now, but raise the phys level cap to 60 or 70.

Also, let me get more SP up to 99,9999/100,000 on a rank 50 class.

In my opinion, the physical level cap - as it is now - should be a lot higher than the class rank cap. As you can see my classes ain't that high (Lancer 45/Thm 30 being the highest) and I hit my maximum level.
I'm not for an rank cap increase since there is currently no motivation to level up after you get the last story quest with 46. So until they dont add Story/Class/Side-Quests for rank 50/50+ they don't need and should not increase the cap.

I feel they need to raise the level/rank cap to where it will stay for years to come before they add any real endgame content.

One of the great things in ffxi was, at least until abysea, none of the expansions where negated. You had people doing stuff in Sky which was added in 2004 in 2010 because the armor still had merit throughout the games life.

If they raise it bit by bit you have the effect of, well new expansion is out everything prior is garbage, next expansion same things, next expansion same thing. This was my biggest complaint of WoW, every single expansion made the previous one worthless. It negated all the armor and all the content. This is also why so many are furious at Abysea in FFXI. Zilart, Cop, ToaU,WotG, all the 3 add-ons expansions are all worthless content now square killed 95% of their game... there is more worthwhile content in FFXIV now then XI.

SO they need to do what they did in XI, raise the cap to 70-75ish or what every they want it to be, and leave it there for the next 7-8yrs.

They said they built the system to intentionally allow for level cap raising at later dates up to around level 99 eventually.

Reason for level cap increases is simple, you don't want to dump 20 new abilities per class on a player when they hit cap
By increasing the level cap new abilities can be added gradually. On the gear side of things, if they add a better piece of 50 gear, why bother getting the next best piece? Raising caps has it's place in an MMO, as content, gear, and abilities are being added as the game development progresses over many years.

50 is more than enough for now. They need to fill out the content from 1 to 50 before they can think of adding more levels.

They should cut everyone's physical level exp by 1/10 and keep the cap at 50, increasing the exp required by x10. That would be good enough.

I'm in favor of a level cap increase by a maximum of 5 levels every two years minimum
I'm in favor of above-cap end-game gear being weaker than former-cap end-game gear to start (example: cap raises to 55, but only features slightly weaker easy-to-get end-game items that are rank 51+ at first, gradually introducing stronger hard-to-get end-game items)
I'm in favor of making the sp/exp requirement twice as long as ranks/levels 1-50 for ranks/levels 51-55. And four times as long as ranks/levels 1-55 for ranks/levels 56-60.

50 is fine for now. Let who ever joins on the ps3 release an opportunity to catch up.

I'd like to see the cap raised to 50 once the game is in a playable state because rank 50+ is the only way the economy can begin to be fixed. Make materials less common, get rid of finished item spamming etc. It's too late to do that pre-50 due to the number of mats in circulation. Plus it would mean any end-game content they add in the coming months will last longer.

A level cap raise isn't necessary until there's enough content for 1-50.

eugh i just thought of the effect raising a cap would have on everyone with multiple capped classes, especially with advanced classes being in discussion.

I agree with lots of peeps here, the cap is fine at the moment. Once things are taken care of (known game issues, the upcoming changes of classes, addition of content, battle system changes, armory changes etc.) then its time for a cap raise. ^.^

totally agree with you. as you can see im a low level character and I think there are way to few leve and sidequests.
